Mac Edition...maybe...please...?

(Shane) #1

Well, it’s a good thing that Enemy Territory is moving along smoothly! Very awesome as far as my vantagepoint.

Sure, I have a vantagepoint from my PC, but my iBook isn’t getting the same good view.

There wouldn’t be even the slightest rumor that ET is coming out for OS X, is there? It would be awesome if it was. I feel like the Mac users (who can be good gamers, mind you) are sorta getting :bump: 'd out of the way. =(

Just out of interest how does regular wolfy on whatever an average Mac is (sorry I have no idea at all) compare to regular wolfy on an average PC (say an AMD 2000+ 512MB and a GF4 Ti4200, sounds about right for an average PC doesn’t it? (and I feel I’m being VERY generous with the vid card)). Does the Mac manage to compare graphically and speedwise or indeed could it a better affair altogether ?

I also remember losing a couple of Mac Lads (might ring a bell for the Pub Rockin’ Uk peeps) whenever wolfy was patched to 1.41 and they didn’t have that one available hence unable to join the majority of servers.

I really wish I had a reply for you, but this iBook I have here is mearly a 800 mhz PowerPC with 32 meg dedicated to the Radeon video card, and 680 meg of pure RAM. I have yet to test this baby out with the Wolf itself!

I can assure you that your ibook is more than suitable…I play wolf on a g4 466 with an ATI rage 16mb and it runs fine (at lowest settings). Newer macs run wolf great at highest resolutions

the wolf mac community is indeed alive and kicking, actually I am part of a rather large mac only wolf clan: Mac Addict Clan Wolfenstein. We have a dedicated server that’s always full and close to 30 mac only members who would all love to get their hands on ET

([=O=]SMYLER) #5

I don’t know if I care for Mac Wolf people anymore if they are going to have their own exclusive Mac servers, if that is the case, screw the lot of ye’s.

(Mumbly-joe) #6

relax pally, who said anything about a mac only server? we allow anyone to play on the server (frankly how could we possibly filter out the mac users from the pc users?) Since the name of our clan is MacAddict it kinda precludes pc membership

My Wolfenstein Disc is missing right now - I can’t seem to find it anywhere (curse me). I probably left it at my friends house.

Since then, I have purchased this iBook, and I was wondering if the CD I have (bought at Wal-Mart (Curse me again!)) would run on this computer, or do I actually have to go to the Mac Store and purchase a new version?

They wanted to patch the Mac version to 1.40 (from 1.33 I think), but in the meantime patch 1.41 appeared. So now they are working on a Macpatch 1.41. I think there is already a beta of that patch out. I don’t have a Mac myself and I don’t follow the news about it very closesly, so it would be nice if someone could confirm this information of mine.

(Mumbly-joe) #9

you have to buy the mac version

Yes, RTCW Update 1.4.1 for Mac has been released a while ago.

Smyler,

Not to start anything but the long awaited mac patch has been out for quite some time. (although it is still the beta and will never be anything but that). In fact, I believe it was done long before the PC 1.41 patch was even released. There was a big controversy about them releasing it because of the rights to the mac port. Supposedly, it sat on ID’s desk for months waiting for approval.

Oh well, we have it now and all is well. As for your question about how well wolf runs on (our) macs. Well, I was playing it on my old iMac 450mhz G3 when it first came out. Now I have upgraded to a Dual 1.25 GHZ Power Mac G4 Tower with a with an ATI Radeon 9000 pro and a 19" Apple LCD Studio Display. Lets just say I feel sorry for the competition.

Anyway, I am just posting here for the most part because of the lock put on the other mac discussion forum. I know that there are many mac people out there that would pay another $30 or more just to be able to play with our PC clan mates. If you think about it, it’s kinda funny, I was playing wolfenstein on an Apple IIe back in the day, but it seems it is coming to a screaching hault if ET is not ported. Anyway, thanks for a great addition to a great game, it’s just sad that we can’t take part in it.

Thats all I really wanted to know and thanks. There were only a few mac users that I had a problem with and one of them was from Belgium. I still think if you’ve got the cash to buy incredibly overpriced “non standard” equipment you’ve got enough for an entry level (which is quite a beast these days) PC. The space shuttle and submarine thing still holds, you can’t have EVERYTHING in life even when you are prepared to spend ridiculous amounts of money.

Have fun in the land of mac :drink:

I know we’re not meant to get into this, but as a musician (I am one), the Mac is the standard. Pro Tools are always one step ahead on the Mac compared to the PC port, the pro sequencer Logic is no longer even available for the PC, and I cannot name even one musician who uses a PC onstage during gigs - they all use macs (Peter Gabriel, Madonna, Pat Metheny, Sting…).

I agree, if you are primarily a gamer, the mac is very much non-standard, and that’s probably what you meant. And I do accept the argument that if you are buying your computer for something other than gaming, then you do not have a leg to stand on when the game you want isn’t available. I suppose it’s somewhat like moaning that the new car-wash you bought and had installed in your garage won’t also clean the dishes, because the attachment isn’t available. Theoretically, it should be able to clean the dishes better than a dishwasher, but someone would need to produce the attachment, so you end up going and buying a dishwasher as well…

I would like the port though.

Or you could compose a tune for Sting about how he wants to be able to play ET on stage in a LAN with P. Gabriel and Madonna.

(PoisedNoise) #15

k my fault, I knew I shouldn’t have started…though if you read the post in full I did think I was trying to be fair… ah well

:bored:

(Weaver24) #16

I’m really not trying to flame, but it’s kinda stupid for mac people to beg for ANY game.

When you bought your Mac, you knew that not a lot of games are made for Macs, thats why almost all gamers have PCs.

So either get a PC, or miss out on some reall great games.

([=O=]SMYLER) #17

Weaver24 if I were you I’d do some IQ tests as I think you’ll be pleasantly suprised with your results. The simplicity of your answer suggests undertones of genius.

(Weaver24) #18

Edited for stupidity on my part.

([=O=]SMYLER) #19

No believe me it’s a compliment. I may take it back though. It may just have been a fluke.

(Weaver24) #20

Opps, sorry uh…

E=MCsquared

Heh Heh, sorry for jumping the gun to quick.
