Low FPS (used to be high)

(Genesis) #1

I just updated my memm from 256 to 512 and bought a new HD. So i lost all my files etc. Now when i play ET it loads a lot faster but my fps r sticking around 20 while they used to b 50 - 70ish. I kinda expected a slight improvement of FPS o_O

It could b that the card has been overclocked before but im not sure (if it was, my bro did it). Ive tried putting all the settings down like AA and Anisotropic filtering but no luck.

My system:
AMD Athlon XP 2400+
512MB ddr-sdram
80gig HD, beats me what brand etc.
MSI Geforce 4 MX 440

Try New drivers , but geforce MX 440 isnt so good . But still i think you should do 50FPS at highest settings :-/

Sorry to see your keyboard isn’t working properly either, Genesis.

Does anyone have any spare “t” “o” and “e” keys to help Genesis out?

I know its not so good, im saving up for a bit more powerfull card. But it used to keep up 50 fps easy before i upgraded :S. Will try the new drivers though.

Edited  English isnt my 1st language so i get confused with “too” and “to” so i just put “2” as that is always right.
A new Keyboard would be nice though.

Is windows itself still booting @ normal speed / everything else still working OK?
If not… your hard drive might be stuck in PIO mode… or some other windows bananas might’ve been eaten by the new hdd :frowning:

(Ragnar_40k) #6

I wonder why you call this high end?

(Salteh) #7

I wonder why you think anyone has said something about high end? :nag:

Sorry , but i think that everyone will be happy only for helpful replies …
and BTW he didnt say that it is high end

(EB) #9

Search forums for ‘tweak’ , I remember a couple of threads close to this recently, but I can’t remember exactly where. Sorry. Hopefully somewhere in that search- will help you with your fps problems.

(fattakin) #10

If its a new windows install, make sure you have installed the Motherboard drivers and the NVIDIA 66.93 drives, these are both important.

I never said its high end. Problem is fixed though, Norton was the problem.
Im getting a new video card soon, i hope that will improve my fps a little bit more

I believe my config is already tweaked a lot now, i wouldnt want it to look any difrent from how it is now anyway.

(eq-Shrike) #12

Yeah , I gave Norton the boot a while ago - use AVG antivirus now - much less cpu/mem hungry and has autoupdate etc blah blah

(mendicant) #13

ye nortons 2004 pissing me off lately, whenever i start up my pc and disable nortons to play a game a minute or so later it turns itself back on

never happened with 2003 mind

(VPL|Preacher) #14

You could try making sure the v-sync is turned off too, update all drivers etc…

(DG) #15

this is most annoying, seems to do it a bit less if i disable it, wait a few seconds and then loas ASE, then wait a few seconds before joining a game.

subs are up in a month and i’m dumping it for AVG or something, this is the main reason.

(Genesis) #16

It’s now working propperly again, kicking norton helped a bit.
But i have found the old Nvidia drivers to work a lot better with my card than th forceware drivers.
So i will be using the old drivers untill i get myself a new card. :nag:

(Snoman) #17

well I hope you will be pleased to know that my Et fps are in the “suck” catagory. I also know that the low fps is partly due to an aged system. most maps I bairly break 50 some even down to 10 while others I sometimes hit 76 woo hoo. But as you read further you will see why

Processor: Intell Pentium 4 1.6ghz
768 Mb Sdram
40Gb 72000 rpm maxtor HD
Geforce FX 59000 256dddr card (BUT in an AGP 4)

so for all of those out there dealing with low fps do what I do grap a flamethrower and charge!!

oh ps that stuff about truning off the atmosphere stuff is bs, the fps stay at 50 regardless if they are on or off same goes with the sky. Tried it all and notihg made a signifigant difference so I set it all back and play

(Nail) #18

atmospheric effects, wolf particles, brass, blood and fastsky only help on lower end vid cards, otherwise it’s MB FSB, CPU and RAM speed that affect FPS

(Gimpsta) #19

Snoman … looks like your CPU is holding you back.
I have a XP3000 , 1Gb of RAM and GFX5900 and get 70-80fps on average and 100+ some of the time

(eq-Shrike) #20

ET is much more CPU dependant than gpu tbh so v51 it is more llikely to be the CPU
