Long Jump Bind not Working

(Dr_Plantboss) #1

PROBLEM SOLVED: I HAD TO REBIND IT WHILE IN A MATCH. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP

I used to use a bind for ALT that made it a lot easier to long jump. This was the command string: setbind LeftAlt “Duck | Jump” 1 This no longer works. I tried binding it again, changing the key, and it still didn’t work.
Does anyone know how to fix this, or am I going to have to suck it up?

edit shooterinput.ini

Bindings=(Name=“LeftAlt”,Command=“Duck | Jump”,Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False,bIgnoreCtrl=False,bIgnoreShift=False,bIgnoreAlt=False)

It worked today for me. I bind it to a mouse button though.

i had my bind deleted as well, but i just rebound it and it worked again.

(BananaSlug) #5

i use crouch on mouse button 4, works better than bind imo

I wonder what percentage of the DB community uses that bind. I’d wager it’s a lot considering I see people panic and wall climb like crazy as they mash on it.

You know you guys could always turn sprint toggle to on for DB and then you can long jump easily, right? There is no reason to hold a button to sprint in DB.

Disclaimer: I’ve hated any and all macros that automate any part of an FPS for you. It was prominent in Quake 3 with rocket jump scripts and those players were almost always terrible compared to the best. I’m not saying DB players who use the script are terrible but becoming reliant on something like that as opposed to learning the game can cause issues.

What am I supposed to do with my pinky when I’m not holding sprint down all the time though??

(Wolven) #9

You can keep it on the Shift button, but don’t press it down. :wink: That said. I also hold down Shift to sprint in DB, but in Quake 3/Live pressing Shift makes me walk… This causes me massive confusion when I play Quake and it takes me a while to adjust. I could of course just change it to toggle in DB, but I’m so used to pressing the key it just feels wrong. Ah! The dilemma…

I have keys that are always reserved for something across all games. CAPSLOCK is always my sprint key. Shift is always crouch. A is always switching to my primary weapon. Etc. etc. If the game doesn’t support those options then I don’t use those keys unless I run out of other keys to use. But that rarely happens as most shooter options are pretty standarized.

I have always played a ton of different FPS games at one time and it’s the only way I can keep from getting confused haha. It’s also why I set my sensitivity by doing 180’s/muscle memory. So I can switch games but my aim is still the same.

for rocket jumps i agree why would you bind that, but its annoying having to quickly shift my pinky from shift to ctrl and jump with thumb. its just to prevent pinky fatigue.

also sprinting on toggle is a no go, i reload cancel with sprinting, and i want to have full control over when i do something, i hold sprint, hold ads, hold crouch.

(Amerika) #12

Pinky finger fatigue? Haha…that really made me laugh. And yes, I get that it’s annoying but I just don’t like anything that automates a skill in the game. I’m OK with it existing but I don’t respect it at all.

(Jostabeere) #13

Well I can reliably longjump with that. But I simply dislike sprint toggle. I played way too long with hold sprinting that it feels bad to have it on toggle.

How do you strafe then?
Do you use ESDF instead of WASD or something?

Alot of people use ESDF instead of WASD, it opens up far more options for binds, i am just wayyy to lazy to do it.

(Szakalot) #16

agree with @Amerika , as usually.

im surprised about sprint toggle though, i find myself wanting much more movement control then toggles provide. with sprint toggle id probably keep walking into mines and flames lol

Yeah, I use ESDF. My first FPS game was Quake 3 which requires quick access to a ton of weapon binds and “say” binds to communicate with your team. WASD just doesn’t cut it in that situation…or at least it didn’t for me and a lot of the people I played with. WASD works fine for most “modern” games though. I know the history of why WASD is the default (thank Thresh and John Carmack for that sub-optimal default the industry followed) but it always makes me laugh because ESDF puts your fingers on the home row keys as well for natural typing.

Back to the sprint toggle discussion! I press to hold it in some games and use toggle in others…depending on what makes sense and makes gameplay easier and more fluid. Since it’s rare that you would ever want to stop sprinting in DB and the distances you need to constantly cover it makes sense to use the toggle option just for that reason. Then you throw in the complexity of long jumping and you either have to have wizard fingers for 3 keys, put one of the keys on your mouse or use a bind that automates long jumping to get your usage back down to 2 keys. I am against anything that automates skill for you unless it’s something completely unreasonable. So, yeah, toggle on it is. I use sprint to cancel reloads as well so I don’t know how that factors in to the discussion as a negative for sprint toggle on.

There is no wrong way to do it here though. It’s all fine and use what you’re comfy with. I just wanted to explain my logic in why I think DB players should think about turning Sprint toggle on. It helps free up a key to use for a bind since you’re pinky isn’t constantly in use, it prevents the need to have wizard fingers for long jumping and it prevents people from feeling like they need a bind to automate what should be a skill in the game. With many of those people mashing that bind in a lot of situations they shouldn’t be mashing it in making it a potential crutch that limits your skill ceiling.

@Amerika @SiegeFace @starElephant

I use WASD, but my crouch is bound to q. My use is bound to e.
