LogitechMX500 and mouse drivers

(Loffy) #1

Hi!
I just loaded and installed the latest drives for my logitech mx500 mouse.
Now I cannot use mouse4 and mouse5. (I used to have the command map on mouse4.)
Any other mx500 users and ET-players out there? How can I solve this? (I want my comm. map back on mouse4!)
The autumn is really coming now here (northern Sweden). We had just +4 celcius this morning (26 sept). Brr. Soon it will be winter again.

On the top of this page, there are a few bottons. In this case the ‘search’ button is very interesting. Hold your mouse over it, click the left button. In the keywords-field you write ‘mx500’ and press ‘search’ on the bottom of the page. :bump:

Lol! Feeling angry today?
I didnt find that post. Thanks.
It links to another forum (and a thread there). I read it and tried it. But failed.
Any mx500 users in this forum, that experience the same problem?

Hum… nope  I downloaded that Advanced-ish thingy and added ET in my windows registry. Works like a charm here.

I finally solved it, my usual way: My kid fixed it.
Command map is back to mouse4 thank heaven.

to get your 6/7/8 working, you can like set those keys to “pgup” “pgdn” or something like that and work it from there.

???

This is the reply someone gave a couple of weeks ago about getting the buttons to work on the logitech MX500, might help you to get youre mouse to work, unfortunatly i cant find the orig. thread, so cant give credit to the orig. poster.
.
Here is the text that i cut and pasted
.
"We’ve been over this before: when installing the Logitech MouseWare drivers, it appears that the side/thumb buttons cannot be bound to a function in ET. However, there are ways around this. [UA]Vampire already described one way to do it (read this thread) and here’s another.

The difference with Vampire’s method is that this one will not require you to bind specific keys to the mouse buttons in MouseWare, thereby altering their default functions in all programs (i.e. forward/back for the thumb buttons and fast scroll for the middle ones). Instead, the MouseWare button-to-key binds will be temporarily disabled when running ET, allowing ET to recognize the standard MOUSE4 and MOUSE5 inputs. The downside is that you’ll be able to bind the thumb buttons only. The quick scroll buttons and the program selector will not work.

What you’ll need:

  • The latest Logitech MouseWare drivers
  • The Advanced Settings Utility for MouseWare 9.76 and above
  • The Windows Registry Editor (regedit.exe, already installed with Windows)

Basically, you’ll have to install the MouseWare drivers normally. Then, start regedit and navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Logitech\MouseWare\CurrentVersion\GamingCompatibility

Right click on the “GamingCompatibility” folder in the left panel, select “New” and then select “String Value”. You’ll see a new value appear in the right panel. Give it the name “EnemyTerritory” (without quotes, and without spaces).

Then, double-click on the value you’ve just created, and enter “et.exe” (again, without quotes) as its data. Click OK to save.

You’ve just let MouseWare know that “et.exe” is a game. Now we’ll have to tell it to disable the button assignments when running games. Do this by running the “Advanced Settings Utility” (mwadvanced_enu.exe).

You’ll see a couple of checkboxes. Make sure that “Enable game detection” is ENABLED and that “Keep keypress button assignments” is DISABLED. That last setting is important (it’s enabled by default). You can alter other settings to your liking. Make sure you click “OK” when done to save all settings and to restart MouseWare.

And that’s it! You can now fire up ET, go into Options->Controls, click on a function and then click on either of the thumb buttons to assign them. You’ll see either “MOUSE4” (back thumb botton) or “MOUSE5” (forward thumb button) appear next to the function."
.
Hope it helps.

I cannot find this ‘mwadvanced’ file. I’ve got driver version 9.79, but I couldn’t find it, even after a search. Know what I’m doing wrong?

(joker) #12

btw this solution is crap. much better is, like Cyber-Knight said, to bind specific keys to the thumb, scroll & program buttons. 8 functions + weapon switching / zooming.

(Cerebrate) #13

Sorry, I don’t understand what he meant. Can either of you please explain? I want to bind them to the mouse, not to keys like ‘page up’ or ‘page down’.

For some reason you need to go to the Mx 700 page to get the mwadvanced

Apologies, Yes the orig responce was in relation to the MX700, but the information works just as well for the MX500, which is the mouse that i have.

If I understand correctly I have 2 choices:

1: I use Lekdevil.NL:s approach with regedit and all that to fix Mouse 4 and 5. Then I bind with mouseware buttons 6/7/8 to be INS/HOME/PGUP for example and then bind INS/HOME/PGUP in ET to what I want buttons 6/7/8 to do.

Buttons 4 and 5 now wont be screwed outside ET

2: I dont use the regedit approach but rather bind buttons 4/5/6/7/8 with mouseware as described above.

Buttons 4/5/6/7/8 now are all screwed outside ET. (Np though, you are playing ET all the time anyway  )

Is that correct? The only bonus with the regedit approach is that mouse 4 and 5 will work as designed outside ET?

Yup, that’s correct.
