I realy want to see Dirty Bomb on Linux
Linux?
And if they don’t create the game on Linux We must try to working with Wine day one ! (sorry for my English I learning)
yes Mint is very good and a version for the client and dedicated server would Perfectly. If SD can and must earn money. This is perfectly normal for a company. If they offer a good payment system and integrate with the community, then they can make money for a long time with DB.
Hmm valve just announced that they are going to release a console this year called steambox, which will run on linux. I guess linux will get way more support in the future.
I think Splash Damage are not going to make a Linux client, because they would have said something by now.
They just said “made for pc”, and that, for me, SHOULD include GNU/Linux, as it’s the second most used pc operating system.
The fact is that, while we, linux users are still a minority, most of us are eagerly waiting for more games for our platform of choice, and thus, willing to pay for them. You just have to see the average amounts paid for each platform in the humble bundles.

It should mean “personal computer”, but thanks to Apple’s ads it doesn’t. If you google “for PC and Mac”, you get 180,000,000 results. “For PC and Linux” yields 3,580,000 results. “PC” these days means “Windows”.
actually the company that makes the computer, Xi3, has little cubes that will run either, but the newest, and probably steambox runs on windows 8
actually the company that makes the computer, Xi3, has little cubes that will run either, but the newest, and probably steambox runs on windows 8
There seems to be some doubt about whether this is the Steambox (even though Valve apparently have a stake in Xi3.) While the SGI Tezro design and modular innards look great, a $1100 price for the performance of an AMD A10 chip will make the ‘Piston’ a tough sell. I certainly hope this isn’t the only Steambox.
Edit: Nice interview with Gaben [theverge.com] confirming that their box will be shipping with Linux (but will run other software/OS if you want.) Of course, this doesn’t necessarily translate to more desktop Linux ports for those running Debian, Arch, Gentoo, … and probably has no bearing on Dirty Bomb.
It seems unlikely he’s talking about the Piston given that the interview includes pictures of prototypes which are not Piston. I do think it highly unlikely that the Piston would run windows 8 given how highly critical Newell’s continued to be on the OS.
What relevance this does have to Dirty Bomb is if it changes if/when Epic decides they want to support Linux on their engine.
20 minute video talking about “steambox” nonsense.
First: Nail, I used to be an active forum on your site years ago, but i was using one of my older usernames: “vaginomano”.
Second: Linux has been confirmed for the steam box as its default OS.
Third: Given that Newell has expressed his disaffection to windows 8 in every possible way, win8 won’t be the default system.
Other than that, Piston has not been confirmed in any way to be the machine that will power the steambox. In my opinion it is too small to house a powerful enough graphics card with sufficient heat dissipation.
Naah. If the steambox will be to expansive other people will build a system based on the same componnents, but cheaper. I bet that they will release the steambox with Half Life 3.
Now that Unreal Engine 3 has been ported to Linux, would it be difficult for SD to port the game to MacOS and Linux or would it be as simple as recompiling source code?
Have they said anything about an eventual Linux version?
+1
My gaming pc is nowadays all Linux and not going back to Windows. If you do Linux client I’ll promise buy some in game stuff or something and support SD!
All my old favorite games runs fine on Linux like w:et, etqw and quakeworld.
Linux is a niche in gaming… I think SD is not going to waste their time on adapting their game code (client) for Linux which pretty much satisfies me to be honest as they can polish the game as much as possible - no need to “waste” time for other OSes. Another idea would be anticheat (IF it’s not going to be delivered by a third-party company) - SD could just focus on detecting hacks for Windows so we can have a decent cheat-free game
