Linux x86_64 - et 2.60 don't start

(akiro) #1

Hi,
I’ve an Ati Radeon HD 4830 (dsktop resolution 1440x900) on a Mandriva 2009.1 and I installed the last driver

rpm -qa|grep fglrx

fglrx-kernel-2.6.29.1-desktop-4mnb-8.600-2mdv2009.1
dkms-fglrx-8.690-3mdv2009.1
fglrx-kernel-2.6.29.6-desktop-2mnb-8.600-2mdv2009.1
fglrx-control-center-8.690-3mdv2009.1
x11-driver-video-fglrx-8.690-3mdv2009.1

uname -rs

Linux 2.6.31.5-desktop-1mnb

fglrxinfo

display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series
OpenGL version string: 3.2.9252 Compatibility Profile Context

I have installed enemy territory (et-linux-2.60.x86.run) into my home, but when I try to start it I receive a “signal 11” error and my desktop resolution become (1024x768 about) :frowning:
This is the error:

Using XFree86-VidModeExtension Version 2.2
XF86DGA Mouse (Version 2.0) initialized
XFree86-VidModeExtension Activated at 1024x768
Received signal 11, exiting…

And here you can found the complete trace of the error.

What can I do to make it start?

current “drivers” for ATi is not support recent kernels, X11’s, which is used in you distro.
wait for FGLRX update, use radeon X-server and/or wait for their succesors/reincarnations with 2.6.33[and above], MESA 7.7[w/working Gallium3D]and XOrg 1.8.

thanks!
I’ll try to install previous driver (8.600-2mdv2009.1)

you can try.

but seems you don’t get it.

together with

mean you use “drivers”, assembled for differnet kernels.

and NO, using drivers repository - dont bring you far.
go to ATi/AMD site
and grab latest driver, install it[it will assemble self and install] and here you go !
direct link(you can try, but AMD usualy thwart direct links)
https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/ati-driver-installer-10-1-x86.x86_64.run
and different one http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/Pages/radeon_linux.aspx?type=2.4.1&product=2.4.1.3.36&lang=English

I was able to run enemy territory when I had Mandriva 2009.0, with different driver fglrx and different ( I suppose) kernel.
Now, I’m trying to use fglrx-kernel-2.6.29.6-desktop-2mnb-8.600-2mdv2009.1 with relative kernel-2.6.29.6.

Before I tried with Linux 2.6.31.5-desktop-1mnb and latest driver dkms-fglrx-8.690-3mdv2009.1.x86_64.rpm.

There will be a driver that works into the repository… 2009.0 and 2009.1 are similar…
