linux server client

(farnsworth) #41

It’s not the lack of servers that makes people stop playing, I think it’s just not a game for everyone and lots of people were/are pissed b/c of the bugs.
When the DLC arrives ppl will try again, and hopefully a few of them stay.

Also what Mustang said
Better 3k players who know what to do than 15k who are just running about, not helping and just try to turn games into TDM.

But nonetheless: We need linux ded servers, I got at least 8 people in my clan who’ll buy the game as soon as there are linux binaries, so we can play on our own server.

linux server ftw!
“i want it” bump
Just took a look at Steam BRINK stats and it reports around 3k-3.5k current PC gamers
Interested to know at what point you would draw the line and crossover to the definition of dying
Contrasting that against Crysis 2 which is nearer 500 it seems like a fairly decent player count to me
crysis 2 does not require the steam bull****, so the numbers of active player should be a way higher

(Mustang) #43

@SpawnTDK
You seem to be suggesting that Crysis 2 should have more players because it doesn’t use Steam
Yet the figure is lower so I don’t get what you mean

(SpawnTDK) #44

most half-intelligent apes don’t start steam if they don’t need it, and if steam isn’t set up to recognize crysis … how will it count the players?
these stats can only be taken serious for games who have forced steam, like brink.
there is no way for the valve spyware to get real stats about games who aren’t using steam.
an example: how will bioware know how many ppl playing quake2? they can’t unless they scan the costumer pc’s when they install bioware software, and not everyone installs bioware stuff…
and the scan will have a heavy smell of illegality, unless i give my yes for it. thats why you need to setup none steam activated games by hand (there where a few “problems” in the past with valve and privacy rights, and i still see them in the future, my crystal ball told me so)

btw. thanks for the free bump

(Mustang) #45

Ahhh gotcha
Crysis 2 doesn’t require Steam, so the Steam reported player count is not representative of the actual player count

Oh well, guess we can get back on topic now

(evcz) #46

still no linux binaries?

do it already!!!

time is passing by and new games are landing… you are losing the train guys!!!

(Nail) #47

meh, can’t have my servers idle, switching them to other games

(Patriotqube) #48

Doing a Bump here as I’m Afraid someone will forget this issue

Still waiting

(Leandros) #49

Still waiting, too.

Hmmmmmmmmmm…

(BomBaKlaK) #51

sad pinguin :penguin:

(SpawnTDK) #52

(SpawnTDK) #53

another bump

(Leandros) #54

We need Linux dedicated server files!

(Arcanoxer) #55

full ack!

a statement from sd would be nice.

bump

(McAfee) #56

It’s been over a month and still no Linux server? Don’t the majority of game server companies run their servers on linux?

I’m tired of playing on homebrew Windows servers where the admin is using youtube in the background and thinks his 256 kbps upload is good enough for a 16 player server.

(TheSgtBilko) #57

GSPs prefer Linux if possible since the costs are lower.

Also many of the old time clans rent or own their own full boxes, most of them Linux based.
Clans want to run clan servers (and no matchmaking) seems like moment of opportunity passed now.

But maybe this game is not targeted for the old bunch.

(Patriotqube) #58

Qubenet still believes in this game
Atm we have rented our servers because our own box is Linux and we wnat to play on lagfree good servers.

But we would like to see some Linuxfiles soon, its real crappy to have to pay for somthing we should be able to run ourselves.

(king_troll) #60

duplicate include in precompiled.h and any other .cpp will shut linux down on startup, everything builds and runs, the game just wont start

windows drivers will work either way
