Linux Client w/ New pb release

(Deprave) #1

Well ive talked to 5 people now that are in the same situation as me and it seems the pbupdate lastnite broke the linux client for playing on pb servers, ive ran pbweb and ive updated manually via the pb site of course…have not got to reinstallin pb yet thou, all my linux pb servers are up to date but my client on this desktop seems to be DOA of the update…anyhow just bringing this topic to the table…Its nice to know after the ID keynote speech @ quakecon that they want to restrict cvars and such themselves and not have to deal with 3rd party people that jump the gun as much as evenbalance does…I will reinstall pb completly and see what results come but from discussions with fellow linux users they are having the same problems…Maybe i just need another cup of coffee as I just woke up and perhaps I am “jumping the gun” aswell:P

I sent EB a note last night after another ND80 forum member
mentioned a similar problem (I’m just recovering from a
post-QuakeCon hard drive crash [I think my HD wanted to stay in Grapevine], so wasn’t sure).

See:

I think it is b0rked.

Yea thanks for that extra verification I still havent messed with it to much it was just my assumption…Perhaps it is true…I did however speak to the players on my servers (84 clients in total connected) through the console and nobody claims to be running the linux client…:\

yes, i can’t play to ET with this new PB! Please, help :frowning:
Need a medic! Need a medic!

You can check them yourself with pb_sv_plist…
it will have a (W) for all the Windows users and will
have a (L) if somebody is using Linux.

I haven’t seen any other Linux users on our servers since
yesterday.

Oddly enough… the RTCW update doesn’t seem to have
a problem here.

Id say it is fair to say that the punkbuster linux client is broke…or atleast semi-broke :\

(Deprave) #7

its fixed (exactly 24hours later)

(Spark) #8

This evening I could play but it still kicked me at random times during the matches, so I hope it’s fixed for real now. In fact today it also hit another mate who is running Windows, but only once.

(Deprave) #9

yep, nevermind its not fixed, it wasnt working for me at all earlier, just was dropping me immiediatly after I connected now it only works on my etpro competition server for 10 minutes or so… and evenbalance posted an update today so I am assumed it was fix, yet its still broke

evenbalance appears to have fixed this http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=support-et.php

Yes… I think that last update works… once the servers
have it and the client gets it.

At least it seems to work for me… YMMV.
