Linux and brightness calibration (ATI card)

Can seem to figure out how to change the gamma / brightness of the game in Linux w/an ATI card using the latest 3.2.8 drivers from ATI. Well, let me rephrase that–I see where to change it under system settings or using /r_gamma in the console, but neither have any affect. Here’s the odd part. A couple days ago it worked fine (though at first it didn’t). After redoing some drivers today it ceases to work yet again. The game is relatively dark for me, though still playable–just not my preferred gamma setting. I can’t figure out at all what I did different (nothing that I can think of) in redoing these drivers–same ones as before. I’m not certain if it’s driver or game related.

Anyway, anyone have an idea? Telling me to adjust my monitor brightness will be ignored.

Thanks.

N/M–found my answer. Seems when you run fglrxconfig for the Ati card to generate the XF86Config-4 file and you say yes to xfree86-dga, that causes the issues. DGA enabled was the issue.
