Limited servers in the ingame browser(server admin problem)

(Jin) #1

There is a bug that the ingame browser only shows a maximum of 2048 servers from the master server list.(there is a lot more than 2500 servers in the world…and if you don’t understand what I am saying, use ASE to see the number of servers in the world and compair it with the in game browser)
My clan’s server is likely to show up at the afternoon and the mid night(GMT+8 ), so many people who don’t use/know what ASE or Gamespy is will not able to join our server. This also makes our server emty most time of the day.
Our server has the lowest ping in the small city/region.BUT the other server who has a higher ping can be found in the list most time of a day.

So I want to ask if I want my server to be seen in the ingame browser.what do I need??
-A server with a fast connection
-a working server.cfg (with < set sv_master1 “etmaster.idsoftware.com” > added)
-correct ports opened
and some luck???

The 2048 limit is a master server workaround for an ET client-side bug. There’s nothing you can do with your ET server config to increase the odds of your server appearing in the client’s in-game browser.

If it doesn’t appear in the master server list (I use pathfinder) most time of the day, then what is the problem?
There is no chance to get my server appear in the ingame browser if it is not appearing in the master server list.
(There are “Sending heartbeat to etmaster.idsoftware.com” in the console.)
Thanks

There are enough servers, please stop complaining and connect to another server

Dude…Mapper X :twak: ,
Read the post again and stop spamming. :banghead:
He isn’t trying to connect to a server, but rather have his server listed.

Nothing to add as usual Mapper… :bash:

Jin:
I’m pretty sure your server appears in the master server list when querying protocol 183 (if you tell me the ip I can verify this), but like Lekdevil says there’s nothing you can do about it (both the in-game browser and Pathfinder queries protocol 83). It would be nice if e.g. passworded servers got excluded first, but I don’t the master has that information.

(Rain) #7

It does (the master does either getinfo or getstatus whenever the server sends a heartbeat to make sure that the heartbeat came from a real server), but I don’t know whether it keeps that information around—probably not.

(Sauron|EFG) #8

That makes the spoofed addresses that occured some time ago even more strange.

Sorry but it’s very hard for me to read a long text if it’s not in my language, I tried…

Just find another server
