LIMIT THE MERC SPAM!!?

(Captain_Forward) #21

No, it wouldn’t. It’s a pub game, people do all they want. If you feel uncomfortable here, you already have alternatives. Play on 10 min lvl servers, or play 6s, or play 6s on 10 min server, or wait for community servers. So much options!

(tome_weng) #22

Given people have to pay £7 for the mercs they want to play I don’t think it’s fair to limit them, even if it did vastly improve the game.

(Dawnlazy) #23

Sometimes you apparently still do this.

That was a fun game, the premise was getting everyone to use a cobalt Fletcher card. We missed one friend though, could have had 5 cobalt Fletchers!
sorry i ment 2-3 naders per team not nades…imho the nade launcher could be ammo based i would be fine with having to sit on an ammo station and act as arty :stuck_out_tongue:

personally i would like to see some MP games with 32-48-64 player servers with large maps again but, we will have to wait for another title using the latest version of this engine to see people make mods for that…(do not even mention another games name here, somebody will report it and you will get a warning)
Limiting options in pubs would still be a horrible idea, especially in 7v7 and 8v8 servers.

Yeah, large servers with larger maps and stuff would be nice but… … idk if the game will be ever optimized well enough tho.

(LifeupOmega) #25

your right, its only a pub so balance and fun dont matter…
Well unless SD do a turn around and let us run our own servers, imposing stupid rules in a public setting is ridiculous.

(Drcipres) #26

Why it has to be naders vassilis etc. ? Why not medics, fletchers, bushwackers. And you will find annoying this, when one of your fav mercs is in free rotation, everyone using it, and for the limit you won’t be able to use it

(Lumi) #27

I’ve said many times: We need separate servers with draft function! The most interesting games I’ve had in all the time I’ve played this game are games where people through luck or thought made it so that there were none to almost no repeats.

It just makes for a much more varied and interesting gameplay and full squads of Vassili noobs is one of the reasons why I have been playing less since the CW event ending.

(Dirmagnos) #28

Having 4 snipers on same team is bad.
And using “its just pub” as reason is the stupidest approach ever. Majority of players play in pubs.
And all those wannabepro elitists can stick it, since do they like it or not, quality of pub games = success of the game.
There should be a line between freedom of choice and quality of gameplay. In ET, with limiting amount of medics or panzerfausts per team it worked really well.

(SereneFlight) #29

What if… you haven’t bought any mercs yet so you have 2 + 3 mercs available… you join 6v6 server and… oh… your teammates are using those 5 mercs… goodie, you’re not able to play.
Not that likely to happen but you’re more than likely going to be able to use one or two mercs so you better hope you brought those mercs with you when you were still in the pre-game lobby because otherwise you’re not gonna have good time… if you even like to play them at all.
Even when you have bought one or two mercs, and neither of those are in the rotation, you’re still going to be really really limited.

So much for the quality and success if I’m forced to play mercs I DON’T want to play.

Yeah… it worked… however, in ET you didn’t have to choose 3 classes you bring into the game.

If you have 3 mercs and you join a 6v6, only 5 people can take mercs. so even if you have Aura, Sky and a third one, there will be 2 Auras, 2 Skys and 1 third merc.
The limits are arse. I agree.
This question was posted yesterday in the Nexon stream and I believe @RazielWarmonic answered that she doesn’t like the idea because of the limits.

(Lumi) #31

Please understand that the poll is quite biased as it just asks if you want limits or not, it doesn’t specify any conditions.

I believe that 1 merc per team limit should be a thing, but it should have its own separate servers, just like min level 10 servers are and it should only unlock for people owning all mercs. It would also create a sort of end-game.

(RazielWarmonic) #32

Correct, I personally do not like merc limits. Pub =/= competitive play. The game can for sure get spammy, but when you reduce the size even from 8v8 to 7v7, it is very noticeable. I think it’s fine the way it is.

(LifeupOmega) #33

I’d be all for limits in MM and higher though, don’t get me wrong. Trying to get this closer to what people consider actual competitive would be a nice step to bring the two closer - being the 1 merc rule and such.

Pubs however are just for fun and limiting that is asking for backlash.

(SpinnerzNQ) #34

I was just about to make a thread/rant about free rotations.
But seriously, Vassili is already an overplayed noob sensation, putting him in free rotation just makes me want to rip my headphones in half. I understand that free rotation is for people to TRY the mercs in the rotation, but it is literally Hell to those who just want to have a casual game without hearing “Push the objective, idiots” from Vassilis “Repair the objective!” from Bushwhackers, and “Skyhammer is so OP!” from Naders.

(Rjsto) #35

I don’t care in pubs, play what you want. I mainly play mercs the team needs, except when I get a new one, but if someone wants to play vassili, let them play vassili. There was yesterday some guys playing vassili in my team, all three doing teeerrible, and someone went just mad at them. They all changed to other mercs so I just told them not to listen to him, it’s just a pub, play what you want, so back to vassilis they happily went. Of course we didn’t win, but who cares, I feel like I did good so no need to get mad

(Frogteam) #36

Part of why I stopped playing Chivalry was when they imposed a limit on the number of ranged classes on a side, I always played Javelin for the nice juicy short range/melee hybrid. But joining a team and seeing that the spots were full was always annoying.

I support merc limits in competitive, but pubs is for pubbing it out.

This is a real Signature.

(AdmiralTeddy) #37

comp yes, pub no, I suggested this a long while back, but when you think about it, new players only have aura and sky + 3 mercs on rotation
the smallest server size you get is a 6v6 which basically means there arent enough mercs to fill both sides for starting players.
there’s also always going to be mercs that will dominate the meta because of their abilities (a few weeks back it was redeye galore, before that it was rhinos and sometime before that we had fraggerfest).
In comp play, it’d be a neat idea, but then also confusing, imagine if people get joined and they all only have the 5 mercs, theoretically they’d be good to play 1 merc each, but it’ll be hard as people would want to pick their fav mercs on each side.

a way to counter that is by adding “own x many mercs before playing comp” which tbh, db has such a weak comp scene (as in both ranked games and competitive cups) that posing such a thing would kill it in the tracks.

But yes, I do understand your frustration, nobody likes nader or sniper spams, i hated when redeye got popular, it was like trying to walk in a city where weed was just made legal an hour ago, only difference being everyone had infrared and sniped you on sight.

Could not agree more

We had class limits in TF2…and if we had a bad Spy, Sniper, Scout, etc, we were stuck with them till they switched off. Not fun at all to be in that situation.

(AnimeDude) #39

I voted on option 2 on mistake
The problem lies in free rotations, not merc limits

(Izzy) #40

A full team of nader, that s the beauty of pubs. That’s art! Don’t change it
