During the free rotations there is always an obnoxious amount of spam of a few characters. When Phantom was on free rotation it was so terrible lots of people quite the game. Lately we have seen way to many snipers and nader spam.
I love the free rotation. But, limiting character spam would be nice and add a nicer flow to games in my opinion, what do you guys think?

What about on lower servers, if there’s more than 5 players on one team, what about the guy who didn’t get to those in time, and doesn’t have a merc that isn’t already chosen?

So… Let me get this straight, you want to limit merc spam, but Skyhammer, of all mercs, should remain unchanged?
It’s fine as is imo. If you want less merc spam, play on the smaller servers. 8v8s are chaotic - that’s how many people like 'em. I play a lot of 7s and 8s and still don’t really find the free rotation mercs that big a deal.
Limiting mercs in public servers is a terrible idea. People like/need freedom. If people feel limited they will leave the game. Limiting mercs would kill this game.
Every time a new merc is released, I have a ritual where I queue for comp with as many steam friends as I can gather all playing the same merc, at least 4, sometimes 5 if possible. I honestly can’t wait for 5 man Turtle team, your suggestion would ruin my fun.
On the one side, This would be nice, since merc spam is awful. On the other side this would milit people and force them into playing things they maybe don’t want to. (>.> Vassili missions). Even if I chose 2, I would say 3 is a better number.
Let’s just be honest on what we’re trying to limit:
Nobody wants to be on the team with 4 Vassili’s.
I remember on some CS servers they would only let 1 person buy an AWP which was half because the gun was OP but also to stop the map from devolving into a boring, camping, sniper match.
Or, maybe, you could take time to explain your team why too many of a same merc is bad. And if you don’t have the patience to teach, just go on lvl10+ servers. Problem solved.
Max. 2 of the same merc limit is pretty horrible especially for 7v7 and 8v8 servers.
You have ex. Aura and Proxy in your squad but there’s already two Auras and Proxies… and they suck ass… well, too bad you can’t play either of them. Sure you can try telling one of them to change but what are the chances of them changing? (spoiler alert: lowwwwww)
Sure it would be nice not to have bzillion Vassilis in the team but… yeah…
Idk about rest of the world but at least here in EU servers that solves bugger all.
Here min. level 10 servers are pretty much as full of stupidity than rest of the servers.
The point of the free rotation is to actually make people try those mercs. As much as it sucks to face a team packed with Naders people have the right to play what they want, especially in casual.
Oh great… just because having spawn times increased on 8v8 servers wasn’t good enough just because some comp whiners went “gooo I don’t like this shit”… FFS there’s 6v6 servers you bricks! Nobody ever forced them to play on 8v8 and when you play 8v8, you know exactly what you’re signing up for.
…ahem… anyways… shitty suggestion is shitty because when we’re done with this rotation, you’re not gonna see Naders anywhere near as often so just because rotation is such “problem”, let’s dick all Nader players who actually owns the merc and plays her outside of the rotation as well.

People can do whatever the hell they want. If their entire team wants to go all Nader just for the hell of it, then let them.
If you have a problem with merc stacking, then just leave the server and find a different one.
SD could increase the timer of explosive weapons/abilities based on how many people are playing the role.
For example a team has 3 Skyhammers and 1 Arti: the airstrike cool down is now 84s and artillery strike 28s (10% increased cool down on explosives per merc of the same role. A Rhino or Thunder would not add to soldier’s cool down timer as they don’t have explosive weapons (I don’t consider the concussion grenade an explosive weapon as it does no damage).
The one exception would be Proxy - her mines are not affected by this rule and she does not impact on other engineers’ (meaning Fletcher) explosive capabilities.
This would reduce explosive spam and perhaps encourage greater merc diversity but it could be a little too beneficial for defence as the significance of failure/error to destroy health stations etc would increase.
I don’t think that DB needs this on Pub matches, it’s casual, and people should be able to play with any merc that they want.
If you don’t want merc spam, just play on 6v6, or Min Level 10 Servers.

Proxy’s mines could easily be main fire proximity mine and alt fire trip mine which is how mines worked in ETQW.
