Like Shadowrun?

I got bored this weekend and I saw this game “Shadowrun” for sale, bought it since it was about 5 USD, can’t play online but doing bot matches reminds me of gameplay trailers from brink.

I dunno what it is, maybe is the fact that mobility is kinda important (with gliders and teleporting etc.) or maybe its the fact that players need to be gibbed to “die” (even though other games did this too). I also like the different “races” which remind me of bodytypes in brink, the elf being the light character of course.

Still though, playing it is ridiculously fun and makes me wonder why I haven’t heard of it.

If anyone else has actually played it for more than 3 hours, would you say it’s similar to the Enemy Territory games or maybe even Brink?

Oh and a brink question, does Fatso get less recoil than Mr Anorexia when using guns or is recoil all the same?

Yeah, I remember Shadowrun. It is indeed similiar to Brink. Special abilities that require energy, races are simliar to body types etc. At one point I was kind of afraid that Brink will get similiar treatment. Because Shadowrun got slammed for having little content - even though it had 8 maps and 2 game modes (although in this case they were basic CTF and TDM I think, Brink is specially built around it’s objectives). It even had SP with bots.

On PC no-one played it because at the time you had to pay for GFWL. Oh, and Vista too.

PS: Is it just me or does the forum say that there is a staff post in this thread?

^

I heard it failed on PC due to the “balance” they made, since PC players could play with 360 players (which sounds awesome) they added lag to their controls.

Though offline is fun, and I’m sure the game will hold me off for a week until Brink comes out. Though even if it gets the “Shadowrun” treatment, it should have a cult following as it does on the consoles, or so I hear.

It didn’t take off because it required Windows Vista to play, only 6 months after Vista had been released.

It was a very good game and I still enjoyed it a lot, I like to think it was ahead of it’s time

So, am I the staff or are you?

Brink is a complete carbon copy, totally ripping off Shadowrun.

shadowrun was amazing… there are so many moments that make you feel like the hero of the game! (Like when everyone on your team is dead and you win the game)

wasnt richard ham one of the game designers for shadowrun? the name sounds so familiar.

and, yea, i saw that game the first time and definetely see similarities to brink. different body types, different abilities, radial menu. other than that it has not that much to do with brink anymore.

Who? :penguin:

You’re thinking of one of the funniest guys on the BBC.

Just… I say JUST in case you are serious… Mr Ham

If not… zing!

I think you misunderstood, or maybe I’m misunderstanding you. “Mr. Ham” has a name which wounds very similar to that of Richard Hammond. So I thought kill_888 was thinking of him.

It failed with actual Shadowrun players because the PC game was an abomination of the RPG game. If was a horrible adaption and left real shadowrunners disgusted. While Brink has some Shadowrun flavors, I would not say the two are really related…

(MatthiasK75) #14

why is there no staff post in here? LIES AND SLANDER

(riptide) #15

There ishttp://www.splashdamage.com/forums/showpost.php?p=286261&postcount=4

(MatthiasK75) #16

of course it appears now

(riptide) #17

Which makes me wonder if they have to have their posts approved first since they could give us information they shouldn’t be.

(Mustkunstn1k) #18

Yeah, that was freaky. I am certain it wasn’t there before… and even if I clicked the staff button it didn’t take me to it.

(TheBIG_Lebowski) #20

You sure about that? Last i checked there isnt any trees of life to plant, no teleportation, oh and no dwarfs, elves, or trolls. Yep just like Shadow Run. :penguin::stroggbanana:
