About the work after Doom 3

It’s old I know, but I hadn’t seen it before.

Here’s a more recent interview with John Carmack:

I finished Doom3 a couple of days ago. What an incredible single-player game. I was truly scared occasionally. Mindblowing environments and sound-sfx.

Well, there’s another Quake and another Wolf game on the way, so I can only expect “more of the same”. DooM 4 probably.

I seriously hope though they either do a new game that is entirely outside of the sphere they have been working in for the past decade, or just quit making games and concentrate on the technology side. Even if it’s only a FPS in a totally different setting. Maybe a FPS with some RPG elements? Something more gritty and present day ala Max Payne? Just please not Wolf or DooM again. I can’t help but feel I’m buying the same game in new clothes.

The game is using a new IP so its not quake / doom / wolfenstein or commander keen

Yay… something new!

Maybe a FPS with some RPG elements?

that sounds like cornflakes + water… look at deus ex…

i would like a fast paced game with ‘unrealistic’ physics in a new and never seen before setting… BUT dont go like far-cry…
… think of something original…

im about halfway through but i doubt ill play anymore as the game is so below average in every department (apart from looks) that i wonder if the designers had even played a FPS in the last three years. I was really looking forward to level making for Doom3 but the game is so un-inspired i dont know if ill ever bother with it. So im really looking forward to whatever SD are making, please make lots of interesting and varied looking enviroments because if i see another space station im going to kill myself

I liked doom3 for atmosphere, something there’s been an appalling lack of in pc games lately - esp shooters, where games without atmosphere are totally pointless. Dont know why everyone still raves about far cry - update operation flashpoint with those graphics and you’d all be pissing all over it.

far cry is a great game, are you dissing it?

Well I never got into Deus Ex, but I heard it was great. I was thinking more of applying the MP class system to SP. Allowing players to level up in different areas and essentially concentrate on 1 of the 5 classes. And the game would play differently according to which class you concetrated on. Not a lot of RPG elements granted, but something to add to running and the shooting and the exploding and the glaven.

Won’t run on my uber TNT2 :frowning: I’m waiting for DooM 3 to hit the XBox.
