Level variety in lobbies

(Ardez1) #41

It wouldn’t be taken away. And you would be free to scream about your level all day in the server if you wanted to. By hidden it would most likely only be hidden in the server. Too many people think level = skill when it only equals XP earned while playing. Not skill.

(Halosheep) #42

But how is that a problem? If they assume I’m better because I’m level 30 and have like 50 times the amount of time in the game than they do, then they’re likely right.
What’s the point of even having a leveling system if you can’t brag about it? That’s like making
Cobalt cards client-sided skins.

There are a lot of negatives that comes with the levels. I mean, all you’re “bragging” about is how long you’ve played the game. Your level literally means nothing but time played and it not factored into any of the balancing systems in the game. It’s not an indicator of skill as good and experienced FPS players at level 10 will blow up a mediocre level 40 player. Yes, sometimes more time played does equate to more skill but not always and it’s subject to diminishing returns with most of the playerbase. Some people play to pass time and not to always try to get better. I’ve got 15 years and change in Q3/Qlive and more time spent definitely doesn’t mean the person with more hours is the better played…not even close.

I’d prefer to have an option to hide your level or just remove it from public view (you’d still have it). I’d like to replace it with a beefed up version of what the game used to have before the move to Steam which I’ve outlined here.

I think bringing back merc levels would provide a lot of fun positives and remove most of the negatives that comes with account level. SD has already removed account levels being shown in ranked MM so why not the rest.

Why would they ‘cripple’ high leveled players? It does sound extremely silly.

More likely they would hide player levels, which is what I know @Amerika is hoping for.
Well it’s pretty much the same as crippling players from playing with their friends because some people don’t have any or don’t want to. It’s extremely silly, yes… But absolutely plausible considering the decisions they’re making such as this one.

So I’m level 24 and I played a funny match not too long ago. My team was all lvl 10+ while the enemy team was all sub lvl 10. In my head I though " oh man this is gonna be a slaughter ". After 15 mins the game ended with the first and second objective destroyed. They Annihilated us! And it wasn’t because we had bad players but because the enemy team just had better team work.

I also played against lvl 30+ pretty often and 80% of the time I could kill them quite easily.

So IMO player level is not really that important. It’s teamwork.

Yea, teamwork is the most important.

About those lvl 30s… They either boosted with the Aura glitch or just plain suck.

(Szakalot) #47

those ‘teamwork is most important’ statements get on my nerves.

Its pubs - there ain’t no teamwork. Average player has as much teamwork as an ETQW bot. People have no clue how to provide cover, setup crossfires, when to push and when to retreat.

The only teamwork you see on pubs is revolving around good medics, i.e. a good medic is keeping his team alive. The rest of teamworking experience is completely random, and only a result of a single moment, that will fall apart again, when enemies in the vicinity are dead.

(ostmustis) #48

yes, force ppl to use smurfs then the teams wont be unbalanced because the levels are even, kappa

(neverplayseriou) #49

Highest lvl I met was 79 can’t exactly say I was impressed of his aim lol

(Enzo) #50

I don’t know how it is in other regions but in Asia you can basically tell whether your going to win a game based on levels. Yes there are bad players and boosters but when you play for so long you know nearly anyone who is decent and usually they have a decent level.

It’s so rare low levels actually overcome a room with high levels like really rare.

(Runeforce) #51

Remove the display of levels (like in comp.) Problem solved!

(Aazhyd) #52

I’m level 23 now and leveling up just has no incentive what so ever. I’d be happy if you’d get an elite case every 5 levels or so. Now it’s meaningless.

(Iceqw) #53

remove levels and only keep ranks, that the solution

(ProfPlump) #54

There are max level servers for a reason - go and play on them if you aren’t good enough to play against the more experienced players yet.

(Xan) #55

@iceqw
how about those that doesn’t play ranked games

(N8o) #56
@iceqw
how about those that doesn’t play ranked games
Then they show an unranked rank.

(Lumi) #57

@ProfPlump

Seriously! These are a month old threads. Don’t go digging out buried threads.

@Faraleth One more that needs closing.

(farmakoxeris.exe) #58

well lvls are the combination of hours played and xp per hour. So a good player can be higher lvl compared to his hours. from the other hand the majority seems to really have game understanding isssues (or brain issues, no offence) so they don’t have the correct lvl for their hours!

f.e i am almost 33lvl at 480hours and i don’t think my lvl i high enough for the hours. it is decent. but also remembe lvls are not making the player

(retief) #59

Perhaps only showing levels in the after match screen could work (the same way k/d is shown). People could still show off their level, but you can’t get flamed for your level until after the game is over – at that point, you can just leave the lobby with no ill effects.

(Mister__Wiggles) #60

I’m a level 34 and all my friends range from lvl 11 to lvl 40. We are all about the same sort of skill level so level is indeed the most useless stat ever. The thing I don’t understand is how the ingame shuffle works, I’ve been dumped on the team with all the players being new against a seasoned team. For example, I was playing with some friends the other day and we managed to all get on the same team which pretty much means we will win. So in interest of keeping the game fair we voted to shuffle. Out of 4 of use I was the only one to be moved to the other team. It makes no sense to me what so ever and some clarity would be nice.
