Level variety in lobbies

(Mondler) #21
I was in that game and I was on the same team than the level 71. At the end of the stopwatch he had about 20k points and I had 19k. I’m level 20. You didn’t complain about me, so the level issue is just in your head. If you would have slapped a 20 level tag on him and a 70 level tag on me you would have complained about me and not him. Yet the score difference is minute. Just don’t see the level as something that brands a player as a good player or not.

Now I understand that there is an underlying issue. But it isn’t that level 71 join a pub game. It’s that there should be max level 5, max level 10 and min level 10 only servers. There should be a clear either or distinction and not servers where everything is allowed together.
you know when one team stomps the other its easy to get the points…if you almost never die and give ammo and health only thats it…the problem is that 1 player (it’s not his fault) stomped the entire team and with that all in his team went good…

thats probably why the servers must be restricted and not have open to all levels servers imho.

(god1) #22

Often times min level 10 servers are either full or completely empty so regular servers are the only option for higher level people.

(Backuplight) #23

The more these topics pop up the more I just want levels hidden. It’s not exactly fun being the higher than average levelled player and having people QQ over it either.

(Armuh) #24

Just played a match against 2 players 10 levels higher than me, by the end of the match I had the higher level one raging at me because he couldnt take me down in a 1v1. Needless to say we won.

Just shows that level doesn’t mean everything.

(Jurmabones) #25

But, the new lobby system, where you can’t play with your friends at all. Stomps and all that should be totally fixed, right guys?

(Verticules) #26

Devs just need to hide player levels in Lobbies and watch the QQ go away.

(Faraleth) #27

I have to agree… Player levels is certainly one of the things that needs to be changed. The addition of the new lobby system wasn’t going to fix the current mythical “level stacking problem”. Honestly, I think the biggest problem is actually HOW it calculates player skill and balances teams, because AFAIK it bases it off your last 10 matches… which is an incredibly small number and very inaccurate to your true performance.

Even though I’m hardly a “high” level, I’ve been in servers on a team with entirely under level 10’s, as well as the other team being under level 10, then had people complaining about the fact that a higher level “carried” them… (even though a large amount of these times, I’ve not been top of the leader board) And similarly, I’ve had my ass handed to me by under level 5’s before.

Just because someone is low level, doesn’t mean they’ve never played an FPS before. Just because someone is high level, doesn’t mean they are any good - it just means they’ve spent a hell of a lot of time on the game.

Levels need to go in my opinion, and I hope they realise this soon. There’s still a long way to go with figuring out matchmaking properly too.

(Jurmabones) #28

You can’t control who joins pubs, so there’s no way to control team balance. Although getting rid of displaying account level would help cut down on people complaining about “level stacking,” they’d just shift their complaints to some other perceived issue to explain away losing games. The problem can’t be fixed on SD’s end, the problem can only be fixed on the individual level. People need to stop crying about losing and start getting better at the game if they want to win.

(LifeupOmega) #29

The most hilarious thing about this whole deal are all the people who will straight up complain that you dare play a public game when you’re above level 15/20 or so - because we all know competitive mode is an oasis of skill and high tier plays.

This is pretty much the same thing, except in TF2 the “level” is hidden. I’ve put 4000+ hours into TF2, and whenever I played against an amazing player I sucked it up and aspired to get better, which is why, today, I’m better than I was in 2007.

I think that this type of competition is healthy, the true players will see these amazing players and work to be as good as they are. Isn’t that the goal of these games - to get good (and not just sit in spawn all day with a sodding sandwich in your hand telling people not to kill you 'cause you’re “friendly”)?

(Jurmabones) #30

Personally I only want to see levels as a personal stat tracking thing. It doesn’t really accomplish anything being shown in pubs. In competitive there’s rank as well, so I really don’t get the point of account levels outside of letting people know for themselves how much they’ve played.

(Telzen) #31

How the hell do you reach level 71? Even after just level 5 the grind of levels seems crazy.

(Backuplight) #32
How the hell do you reach level 71? Even after just level 5 the grind of levels seems crazy.
It goes pretty quickly just from playing the game regularly, more so when you stop paying attention to levels.

(N8o) #33

Well, after level 20 it’s 400k EXP for every level from there on, so it is linear.
If I play a bit, I can get a level a day easily.

(Litego) #34

Problem with removing levels from the lobby is that now the progression whores are gonna complain about lack of progression because they can’t show it off.

(Jurmabones) #35

To hell with 'em. If all they care about is their level or chasing carrots rather than the actual game then why should they be catered to?

(Litego) #36

They’re a source of income. Now for SD I guess it’s a matter of which will benefit them more. Losing the progression whores, or the level complainers. Personally I don’t give a shit either way.

(Jurmabones) #37

They might be a source of income. Now, loadout card/cobalt obsessed people, definitely a source of income–but are mindless progression whores the same as those people?

I guess the basic point is, I wish SD would just try to make a good game instead of just trying to make money, which they seem to think can only happen by catering to everyone but the most dedicated part of their fanbase. /shrug

(Merci1ess) #38

Someone voted to have me kicked out of a game yesterday for being level 48. This isn’t the first time people have complained about me being level 48 and stacking a team. 'Specially when I do good. This is concerning considering the way SD has worked until now. This may sound silly… but I’m expecting some stupid patch to be released that will cripple high levels in some way. I mean, with the latest patch that was released, I guess anything is a plausible scenario.

(Ardez1) #39

Why would they ‘cripple’ high leveled players? It does sound extremely silly.

More likely they would hide player levels, which is what I know @Amerika is hoping for.

(Halosheep) #40

I wouldn’t like my level to be hidden, I’m rather proud of being level 30. Why would you take that away from me?
