I have this handy response for hackusations, level shaming, general dick moments, and just anything negative! “lol”
Level shaming
Yup. I want levels removed from public review and changed to something more meaningful and fun.
I’m level 55 so that shame runs deep. Really I’d rather people level shame than call hacks, so it’s really no big deal. They are typically the type to get upset no matter what the circumstances. Otherwise I recommend you check out DBN PUG nights to avoid shame- it’s a great way to get much more consistently balanced games without the negativity.
So how many of you actually feel shame because…
A: You have played a game x hours which you like, enjoy, have fun being part of and have the dedication, determination and possibly skills to show it for
B: Some dude calls you bad (because of x hours gameplay and/or the way you/your team performed and/or whatever reason)
C: Some dude calls you nerd/nolife (because of those x hours of gameplay or whatever)
These should be non issues whether the game shows levels or not.
This applies to both ends of the spectrums and also the middle. It doesn’t matter whether you are noob/scrub or more experienced player.
I’m not ashamed of anything. If I perform badly I find reasons on my own and since I’m critical of myself it’s usually related to myself example how I happen to track etc. that specific time or how I interact/support my team. Because that thing I can try to change. Otherwise it has to do with team balance.
Instead I’m PROUD of the level I am (whether it’s reflective of my general skill level over period of time is totally different thing) and the hours I have put in.
Nobody can take those hours away from me, neither they can take the accomplishments and fun away I have been able to have on that time neither they can shame me or shake my confidence since I’m exactly where I should be and want to be.
Because I KNOW those people who behave badly and act like little children on the sandbox while they are more or less “adults”, are the real no-lifers.

It would even make sense that levels would drop over time if you wouldn’t play/perform with specific merc (didn’t read the whole topic whether this was mentioned.)
As a low level player, getting kicked for being a low level is pretty annoying too. Didn’t realize that high level players get shit for their level too and hiding levels appears like by far the best solution to me.
I considered it but dismissed it because it would suck if they went the new “event” route where they raised the level cap and you haven’t played much recently and find out you went down in levels and you don’t want to grind all of them over again. It would put a negative spin on a positive advertising campaign.
Having a system that includes rating decay for competitive things like matchmaking makes sense but not your overall level. I’d personally treat it like an MMO character and then give incentive to start using the merc again by adding fun things to get for maxing out the level (anything that doesn’t increase the power of the character) as opposed to punishing people.
So that’s my logic behind not including that particular feature in my write-up.
Personally, I like the idea of titles rewarded for various things. Adds personality to the players and gives an inkling of how far they are into the game.
What’s weird to me is responses like Crabby’s, the point isn’t that we’re ashamed of our levels, but this toxic as hell attitude people have because of it.
After a while it gets old, and I personally don’t see a point in ignoring it when we could do something about it.
I think Halo did a good job, kept levels purely for rank and matchmaking purposes, and your avatar could be customized to basically give a quick and short idea of the kind of player you are.
Ironically…even Call of Duty did it…and I actually thought it was good idea… (holy shit I complimented that game…damn it)
Let me hide my level (which is not even that high anymore).
Why is it shown in the first place? What possible benefit did someone think it would have?
The possibility to hide his own level is something I am not against. When I go in game, I clearly don’t want to be harassed by lower level players. This would be a direct fix, and probably an easy one to do.
I have a friend who is level 42 (or something like that). People usually react badly when they get killed by him. I definitely don’t want to see him unable to play because some bad mouthed players decided to.
About titles ? Oh well, it’s a fun addition.
Well sometimes the levels aren’t all that bad either, sometimes when you’re dead and spectating someone who is at the completely opposite end of the map to where all the action is, it’s better to see they’re lvl2 instead of think they’re just given up!
That is why I think that titles are the best option.
Well, yeah, i guess it would still work in that case too!
I like to be able to see lvl’s, if I can see that my enemies mostly have 20+ players and I’m stuck with people lower than lvl 10 I just leave.
I played a competitive match last night. My team had four level 6 players against a team with an average of level 17. Two of the opposing team were in the same clan. Needless to say, we spent most of the match getting spawn fragged. The other team had the nerve to trash talk. I typed some regrettable messages. I may have been a dick…

After losing the 1st round I stepped my game up and then some guy said: “Level 20 vs levels 6-10” “Fuck you” “He boosted” then I won my team the match but still level shaming is a thing I hate and I think you should do a few things:
- Hide level.
Then I won’t be able to use my sarcastic voice binds. Bushwacker has the best lines, he really takes the words right out of my mouth (and let’s me continue playing without caring!)
Well, you might have been dick but just remember that the other team has no dick at all.
facepalm this thread.
“I’m level 20, omfg! some level 5 is shaming me because of something. Quick! Hide our levels so it won’t happen!”
Yeah, of course it “won’t” happen…everybody knows that.
Same thing will happen then in ranked games levels or no levels.

Where’s your outrage about what kind of attitude people have towards noobs or who are playing bad?
So you think toxic as hell attitude people might have in this game/community because levels are showing? Seriously? Is that your argument?
Shortest route to change things is your own attitude towards ANY toxic behaviour. And there’s plenty of that, levels or no levels showing.
It’s not the easiest way though because it requires some things what some people lack: maturity and balls.
If you’re trying to imply that people that have high levels are elitists towards new players, that’s not at all the case, at least it’s not with me.
I don’t see this game as something that’s hard to grasp, aim, dodging, positiong, etc, those are things that do take time to learn. But simply understanding how to play, planting bombs, revives, you know, working as a team? Yea, people get pissed about that, because there’s really no excuse after a certain point to be THAT bad at the game.
And saying things like “hacker”, “freaking high level” etc, that stuff I see as cop outs and excuses for people not learning how to play. So yea, if that’s elitism, then I’d say we all fit in that category.
