Level shaming

(SteelMailbox) #1

So I got the mission to do a comp match so I got matched with players who are lower then level 10.
After losing the 1st round I stepped my game up and then some guy said: “Level 20 vs levels 6-10” “Fuck you” “He boosted” then I won my team the match but still level shaming is a thing I hate and I think you should do a few things:

  1. Hide level
  2. Do what BLR did and give titles that are instead level
  3. Im out of ideas

Do something cause being called a booster and being cursed is no fun.

EDIT: After reading about people liking that you can read level and some sayin “Just give 0 fucks” then I decided that instead of hiding levels by force, we will choose when we want to hide it and when not (available in level 1, 0 credits needed)

I’m lvl 30 and my partner is 40-something, so we get it all the time. I just go along with it and tell them it gives me a tingle in my pants to stomp them. :smirk:
DB is my first FPS though so I’m not really stellar, and find regular pub matches more than challenging enough.

You just have to ignore it, that or shit-talk them back for funsies. shrug Tell them “get mad stay bad, scrubs”, problem solved.

You cannot do anything to shaming. It happens. People are stupid.
Thing is that currently balancing of both comp and pubs are completely broken.

Personally I take a break from the game even now that Phoenix came out because I don’t want to WASTE my precious time (which is limited in this world) to play matches that are so unbalanced. I’m more interested almost getting stomped since at least there’s some kind of challenge there that it might work. However in 5v5 2-3 players making mistakes all the time will cost you dearly. On pubs people seem to be more interested about kd ratios than anything else so they don’t care how balanced the game is as long as someone is on their crosshairs and not the other way around.
I have actually borequite games that have been one sided for my team than the other way around. It’s so useless.

I don’t play as much as some time ago but in a week I might have had like 5-10 balanced matches. Rest of the time I’m just waiting those matches to arrive. It is as useful as waiting on the lobby.

Not having fun at all at the moment.

Don’t make the situation worse than it is.

Man up and grow up.

My friend is level 67, every single match we are having fun. If our team is loosing we are called loosers with high levels, if our team is winning we get complaints about MM and how it is unfair to play vs higher level (like it would make you stronger :D)

(Faraleth) #5

I agree - I love the fact that Blacklight used titles and you could essentially hide your level. The amount of complaints we used to see that people were “higher level, stomping newbies”, was ridiculous. Thankfully, the titles minimised this, meaning the only complaints I ever saw was “Your shiney camo means you are more powerful” or some kind of other bs along those lines… xD lmao.

But yes! NEED. SOME. TITLES! ^.^

(JesseKomm) #6

Would be very nice, as I’ve seen in my experience new players generally levels 5 or below will sometimes get randomly kicked before the match even begins… this mentality HAS to stop immediately. Yes, they should probably be playing on Max Level 5 servers, but they don’t always get that option or most players simply do not know about these specific servers.

Level has zero indication of skill, it’s simply an indication of time played(And even that is not trustworthy with the experience farms), there is no guarantee a legitimate level 50 would be the best player on your team every single round and that is the model that every FPS game follows, sure they are more likely to win but that is because of their knowledge of the game, but even in a 1v1 a level 1 player still can win against a level 50+ because that is determined on skill, not experience.

(Mister__Wiggles) #7

I had this argument with a whole server yesterday. Some guy saying that the higher your level the more skilled you are and I just think that’s a load of rubbish. Level in DB just indicates playtime, with playtime does come experience yes but it doesn’t mean your aim is good or your tactical awareness. I’m a level 26 and I feel I’m above average skill level and I’ve had my ass handed to me by new players on more than one occasion, level means shit right now and people need to start noticing that. Plus the people that complain about high levels are low level players in open lobbies.

(JesseKomm) #8

Exactly! I’m a level 12 and I would also consider myself above average in skill there are days where I am completely going MVP every match, then there are times where I cannot shoot a damn thing… I’ve been accused of “toggling” hacks because of how irrational my skill level appears to be, though to be fair my mouse is 5 years old and it really hates this game, it’ll cut out over and over and stop tracking left or right, sometimes it simply WILL NOT SHOOT(And yes my mouse is still bound when this happens), it’s just old and dying, on it’s last legs.

People will not quickly understand the affect level has on this game, right now anything between 1-10 has meaning simply because of what servers you are allowed to join, after that it’s pointless.

I’ve had people call my cobalt loadouts p2w.

There’s no helping bads. Laugh in their face and call them bad. Some toxicity is good now and then.

(_retired_) #10

We need some kind of indication of how much time person has spend on game/quality of play.

It’s quite often easy to see example on pubs that if most players on other team are under 10 levels and other teams is just the opposite what will happen.
I don’t get what is so fun about games that after first death/respawn your/opponent team is through the first objective with ease.

People should really forget what some person is saying in chat especially if you are “veteran” since you should know better how to behave.

It’s pretty hard to ask lower levels/noobs not to shame or behave respectfully if your own attitude towards people is “scrubs” or reaction towards someone feeling unfair matching is disrespect.

Remember your attitude comes first.

Usually people act like that way because they might succeed in game now and then but they suck in life.

Be mature and respectful.

I just don’t care anymore tbh.

(Litego) #13

So when you level up and get a high level, do people hackusate you less? Being level 9 and stomping on people is just too suspicious apparently.

The logic that higher levels are/should be better have always pissed me off. As if playtime in this game counts more than your experience from other games in the past. I don’t understand where this logic that level=skill comes from. Maybe it’s some RPG mentality where levels actually give you more power. I see this mentality in pretty much every shooter that display levels, and it’s stupid.

Rank usually is an indicator of skill, however in this game not even that works.

(LifeupOmega) #14

I’m only level 24 or 25 (It’s early forgive me) and even then I join random games and suddenly I’m a big bad meanie who only gets a kick out of stomping new players which… isn’t really true. But I need to do my missions, and Level 10+ servers don’t have 6v6.

Even had a guy call me a P2W list of expletives for playing Phoenix and daring to use his heal during a fight. That was fun. Why do people refuse to get better and instead resort to being awful.

We just really need to start populate our min 10 servers and get a 6v6 min 10

Shaming in general is stupid, no matter what is the reason.

Sometimes people forget that leveling up in this game is quite slow and it takes some time to even get level 5. I’m not judging people, what comes about levels. Sometimes I see level 5 players that are already good and then I’ve also seen totally opposite: clueless level 5 players. Also it’s good to remember that some players already have some background with other FPS games, meanwhile some are “holding the gun first time” in online games. Every time I see level 5 player, I’m interested to see which kind of player this new person is.

However matchmaking balance could be worked a bit again.
It was good to have these max level 5 servers and minimum level 10 servers, but it would be great to have more of them. Nowadays when I join randomly to the game from quick matchmaking, I always end to get a server where are totally mixed levels. Some are higher than level 10, some are near level 5 and then sometimes these random level 1 players joins as well. Of course using server browser is an option, but fixing simple matchmaking in general could be nice.

Db being your first FPS? Oh boy you’re gonna find alot of the future FPSs you play to be REAL slow, like turtle speed. I’d imagine it being one of the harder FPS to first jump into FPS-wise so kudos to you.

(Loki.) #19

I doubt SD will hide your levels…
Same complaint, or useless crying happened in ETQW…
“your whole team, they are Supreme Commanders- Stackers – blah blah…”
Didn’t mean sh!t then, doesnt mean sh!t now…

Higher rank is less fun in DB… at least in ETQW you could jump on Global Voip…
Tea Bag the cry baby…
Ask them, how my Supreme Balls taste? :stuck_out_tongue:

Story time!

Playing one day, and I am at level 25 at this point. Someone says, wow dude, get a life.

I call him out, “dude, I work 40 hours a week and go to college, I didn’t come on here during my free time to hear your sob story about why you suck.”

What I got? “lol what ever bitch”

Don’t know why I expected anything less
