Letter shortcuts for context/quick chat don't work, but number shortcuts do?!

Hi there,

I’m running ETQW in ubuntu 2.6.32, and everything is working well…except, oddly, the letter shortcuts for the quick chat or context menus don’t work. Instead the key that I press is ignored by the quick chat menu, and applied as if the menu is not open.

E.g. I hit ‘s’ with the quick chat menu up, and instead of saying “sorry” I take a step backwards (I use wsad for movement). Similar for the context menu.

If I switch over to the number shortcuts, it works as it should… But I’m totally used to the letter quick keys. Any ideas of what to try? I had a look at cvars, and experimented all through the ingame menus…but no joy. Any suggestions welcome!

Thanks,

Deems

Go to “game settings” and look on the “advanced” tab, there’s an option there to switch between letters and numbers for quick chat.

could be just a problem on ubuntu, have never had anything like that

@DrFunkenstein – Yes, thanks. I know this. When I have it on numbers, it works. When I have it on letters it doesn’t. I’d switch to using numbers, but I’ve gotten used to the letters.

@Dthwsh. – It could be an ubuntu problem, for sure… But if so, it is an odd one. What would the operating system have to do with the way the game interprets a chain of key-strokes? I would suspect ubuntu more if it didn’t recognise all keystrokes, or e.g. mouse motion. But this seems so specific. I’m not saying you’re wrong – it’s just kind of odd if that is the case!

Any other suggestions?

Cheers,
Deems

This is a bug in the linux client that never got fixed.
