I don’t think losing will lead to a loss of xp; losing itself is a punishment in itself and winners will gain more xp simply by winning. If losing were to punish players even more than it already does, that would probably lead to people quitting the game rather than inspiring them to become better.

(Herandar) #3

He asked if quitting would cause XP loss, not losing.

If quitting caused you to lose XP, I don’t think it would lead to more quitting. Depends on how much, I suppose.

(tokamak) #4

Could lead to more grieving. Players intentionally doing nothing until the game is finished.

(Linsolv) #5

I wouldn’t mind seeing quitters lose some XP, as long as it’s relatively minor. You should, realistically, finish.

I wouldn’t like spending XP on items. That would be pretty unpleasant.

There is a chance we might see SD devs, but in all likelihood you won’t know that it’s them.

Derp. :I

People do that anyway, at least in my experience.

(Whydmer) #7

No reason for quitting to lead to loss of XP as your character is replaced by a bot.
My understanding is you do not spend XP on anything. Items and clothing are unlocked through levels gained or challenges completed.
I’m sure there will be special developer gaminig events with fans.

(tokamak) #8

A team that is constantly replacing players with bots is at a disadvantage.

It’s really simple though. Only hand out the xp gained during the match at the end of the match. That also teaches players to value the outcome of the match rather than playing on a kill by kill basis.

(Whydmer) #9

If I quit and I am replaced by a bot it might not be a disadvantage to my team…

Yes it sucks to have people rage quit, whine quite, and whatever.

But I also know that I have made my kids quit mid-match because their time limit is up, or they didn’t do some chore before they started playing that they were supposed to do. Sometime real life interferes with gaming and knowing that a bot is replacing the players should make that sort of quitting easier to swallow. But yeah I could live with XP being awarded at the end of the match and if you are not there then no XP for you.

(tokamak) #10

Then simply weigh if the lost xp is worth the real-life commitment, which it usually is.

(Linsolv) #11

My biggest problem with this suggestion (which, I mean… it’s really meaningless, in the end, but sometimes it doesn’t have to be meaningful) is that often, I’m doing my honest best, and my PS3 loses connection. The worst part is, it usually happens when I’m having one of my better games. Never lose connection during a terrible game. Only when I just got a, 8-kill streak and have single-handedly held the entire other team off of A, or when I got 15 revives in 5 minutes, or something else. If I lose all the XP I’ve earned so far, then it means I’m punished for… what, having played Black Ops? (for some reason, it all started when I bought Black Ops. Connection was great up until that point.)

When you say lose xp when quitting, do you mean the xp you were earning in that game, or your total xp?

Not that it matters much, the only distinction between the two examples being one you reach 0 xp for that level you can’t really lose anymore (because you can’t de-level).

Personally, IMO, I don’t think you should lose anything. I think a better solution to rage quitters would be Halo Reach’s temp bans. If you quit mid game (I think) 5 times in a row then you get a 15min ban that prevents you from joining another game.

The 5-times counter resets, I think, after 5 minutes, so it’s not like if you quit, log off, log on the next day then quit 5 times in a row you get punished. It doesn’t completely fix rage quitting, but doesn’t hurt people who legitimately have to go mid game, or people who just unfortunately get stuck with a bunch of jerks on their team (because, you know, it can happen).

(tokamak) #13

Yes, the entire progress up to then is gone if you quit. You need to reinstall the game and start again.

(ultraddtd) #14

I meant out of your total xp, i.e. you can lose a portion of the 2000xp you earned towards level 10.

(Linsolv) #15

They’re referring to losing the XP gained that match. If you would have gained a level that match, you simply do not gain that level.

(Herandar) #16

Yes. There is a documented issue with BlOps netcode and PS3. Issue doesn’t exist on 360.

(Exedore) #18

If you leave a match using the menu, you keep all the XP you have up to that point. When the match is finished though, both sides receive bonus XP, with the winners getting a touch more.

We didn’t want to punish people who quit out because they simply have to, yet try to discourage people who are leaving just because they’re about to lose.

(SockDog) #19

I’d imagine people would rage quit or just leave poorly balanced games more often than needing to put out a kitchen fire. Softening the punishment for the former, for what I’d think was a much less frequent latter, seems to be more designed at keeping everyone happy and a little contradictory on the whole XP is magic and will encourage good behavior.

(Linsolv) #20

Woah, woah, wait. Does that mean that people who dashboard don’t get any of the XP from the match?
