Left people also play

(Juan518) #1

Make this post with my hopes that someone of the dirty bomb team read it. i’m left handed and there is no option to change the weapon position while handling, This would make left people aim better and be more skilled

(neverplayseriou) #2

uhmmm what? that makes no sense at all lol

(Faraleth) #3

Sent you a PM about this :3

(Litego) #4

Most games don’t allow you to switch hand, just get used to it. It doesn’t make you aim better and become more skilled.

(Juan518) #5

thanks, but what’s PM?

@Litego I wouldn’t really say that’s totally true - while it may be more of a placebo effect, in games such as Quake I would always play better with right handed positioning, than left or central. Personally, if someone’s experience can be improved through a small quality of life change - then I say go for it! ^.^ But that’s just my opinion.

(almondFlower) #7

I’m not left handed, but I can understand the OPs point. I tried playing in different games where its possible to switch weapon hands, and it was very bad gameplay wise as a right handed, didnt felt natural…

I’m not against having an option for left handed weapons, but I don’t want devs to spend lots of development time on a feature that is completely unnecessary. I suppose they could make a quick fix that just mirrors the current right handed 1st person view. But to make it truly left handed requires repositioning and reanimating every weapon in the game. That’s a lot of work for such a useless feature.

And yeah, that’s just placebo. I can play just as good left handed as right handed, doesn’t make a difference, it’s just a visual thing, preference.

TF2 does it, CS:GO does it. It literally just mirrors the viewmodel.

It would take 1 hour tops for someone to just add in quickly, right?

@Litego Yeah, I understand your point. It’s like every time I bring up the fact that we need colourblind support and there’s the band-wagon of “we don’t need this because it doesn’t effect me” folks… It’s kinda the same here.

More-so that I work with UE3 a lot, and moving the player weapon position is piss-easy. The only thing I can see a problem being is that the defibs are custom duel-wield in Dirty Bomb, so moving or flipping weapons might off-set their positioning. Regular weapons though are very easy to move on the player’s screen  Shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes, unless it screws up the defibs; then there might be a bigger problem.

Your visual view model shouldn’t actually have anything to do with the in-game world. At least that’s how the majority of games work. A lot of the time your view model and pov lies to yku anyway.

For instance in UE when you change the weapon position in your view model it doesn’t actually change where the projectile comes from in the games world.

Could be wrong but I’m sure that’s how it works in DB too.

@cordovanJive Yep, you are correct  It doesn’t change where the projectile is coming from at all, it still fires directly ahead. The point I was trying to make is that it is entirely a placebo effect, but I guarantee even still it will have a minor effect on a right-handed person if they tried to play with left-handed positioning. Maybe not much, and not for everyone, but there would certainly be a good amount of people that would experience minor gameplay hindrance because of it :stuck_out_tongue:

Hehe, and sometimes it could even help you. Even being a right handed player. As you may be right or left eye dominant. =)

(For us overly competitive players seeking every tiny advantage ^^; )

(FalC_16) #15

tl;dr I am sure there is a console command to switch the weapon model from right to left. I come back from CS 1.6 times where it was pretty standard thing to have.

(BlazinFox) #16

It’s be cool to see it actually change on the third person model. But that would probably be a little too much to ask

(wiski) #17

I do remember in APB Reloaded they allowed you to swap hands with weapons to better aim around corners, and it took a while to get used to having the weapon on the other side, so I can see how it might be disorienting for lefties to have the weapon in the right hand.

That said, they would have to re-work a lot of the animations to make it happen.

(cordovanJive) #18

@wiski Not really, just mirror it like most games do. Kind of lazy maybe, but it works and is easy. =P

(Atherel) #19

Haha, would be fun to have all the empty bullet casings fly across your monitor because they made it realistic

(bontsa) #20

Effort-to-conveniency ratio with simply mirroring gun models is pretty good, so I’d have nothing against this change. Heck, I could use left-sided models myself too (not bothered enough to look for it via configs atm) since I found it helping a little due my right eye being dominant, hence having “more clear” visuals when guns were taking space from left instead or right.

Placebo is strong effect, in both positive and negative
