Left people also play

(sentimentalDime) #21

As an ambidextrous person, I’d say deal with it, so few games have something like this, and it makes such a small difference for me that i generally don’t bother with it.

(LifeupOmega) #22

I just want to remove the viewmodels altogether.

Wow go you it doesn’t affect me so why bother just like we don’t need colourblind support right? 'Cause you’re not affected by that either are you?

Hell let’s just never make improvements to games so that they’re more accessible to anyone ever again.

(Vocopi) #23

I’m left handed and I dont understand why it would help you shoot better in a game?

(Jostabeere) #24

I don’t understand it. Is it about the model being on the left side like Counterstrike?
I am left-handed, too, but I always used my mouse with right and had the weapon model on the right side.

@LifeupOmega
You obviously missed the point of my post.
It wasn’t a fuck you to OP, but rather, if it’s not needed, let’s not waste time on it. I Can tell from the replies that a lot of people agree with me.
Now, you might say that it wouldn’t take long to implement, and to that i say: Remember how long it took to fix the overpriced trade ins? I imagine it woud take about the same amount of time for that.

(SteelMailbox) #26

From what I understand from CS:GO videos about which viewmodel is preferred it is more of a strong eye thing.
If you have a strong left eye your VM should be on the right side but if you have a strong right eye then it should be on the left side.
It is to avoid the strong eye seeing the viewmodel more which makes for a distracting VM.
I don’t understand what does it affect left handed but they still should implement this.

I’m not against having an option for left handed weapons, but I don’t want devs to spend lots of development time on a feature that is completely unnecessary. I suppose they could make a quick fix that just mirrors the current right handed 1st person view. But to make it truly left handed requires repositioning and reanimating every weapon in the game. That’s a lot of work for such a useless feature.

And yeah, that’s just placebo. I can play just as good left handed as right handed, doesn’t make a difference, it’s just a visual thing, preference.
@Litego Yeah, I understand your point. It’s like every time I bring up the fact that we need colourblind support and there’s the band-wagon of “we don’t need this because it doesn’t effect me” folks… It’s kinda the same here.
Well I wouldn’t say that’s the same thing, as games without colorblind mode can be almost unplayable for those who are colorblind. But having the guns view model on the right side instead of the left for lefties does not actually affect their performance, it doesn’t prevent them from playing in any way. All it is is preference. Hell, I used to play CS with left handed view model back in beta or early release of the first one.

But hey, if they can do a simple mirror and it doesn’t take much dev time, I don’t see why not.

It also has to do with feeling natural. As someone who actually shoots, and quite often, I would find it highly annoying / distracting if the gun model was on the “wrong side”

(Grave_Knight) #29

It’s a mentality thing. It doesn’t actually mess with their aim, rather their perception. They’re use to everything being on the left.

I do think the FPS model should allow players to switch, if only for themselves.

(Why is screw censored? Guess I can never talk about Fallout 4 and my quest to find more screws.)

(Gung-ho) #30

I can’t speak for the Unreal engine but handiness in the id technology engines actually affected aim slightly as it also changed the model itself would be affected (left handedness meant the model would hold the weapon left handed and your aim would be very slightly bottom left of the centre crosshair).

If the perspective handedness is linked to the character model in DB/UE3 engine it could pose more work than you’d think. Not saying it shouldn’t be done but it may be a bigger job than expected.

Private message

@Litego I wouldn’t really say that’s totally true - while it may be more of a placebo effect, in games such as Quake I would always play better with right handed positioning, than left or central. Personally, if someone’s experience can be improved through a small quality of life change - then I say go for it! ^.^ But that’s just my opinion.
cg_drawgun 0. Having a gun on your screen was distracting and you couldn’t see as much
