Same here
I think the engies will keep their role while the team is attacking. They may have lost the ability to blow stuff up, but they still can costruct primary objectives and repair vehicles. So, as an engie, I expect to find myself on the front line pretty often.

(kamikazee) #62

Building stuff? Seeing how valley had a bridge in the first stage, engies are needed to attack.
Apart from that, they play a certain close-combat support role if they still have a shotgun.

Valley map is actualy a good example. In the second stage of the Valley map, when the GDF need to hack the shield generator and then set explosives at the Strogg contamination device, what is the purpose of GDF engineere? Defending the base against Strogg attacks doesnt require much effort since the Strogg are supposed to be on the defensive, guarding their objectives. The only thing left for engys to do is to fix vehicles. They can try to fight with shotgun which, I assume, wont be very effective on long range so it wont be of much use when attacking (since most of the level is outdoors).

(kamikazee) #64

Ah, you mean how they can be usefull a whole map long? Maybe they can’t, other than for vehicles/deployables.

In that case, switch class and join the mayhem again!

(Dazzamac) #65

A good soldier is a versatile one. When the attackers break through and get a plant down, do they or do they not have to defend the explosives? Therefore whilst they are on attack, there is still a strong defensive element to it.

Just thought of another question. Its about the covert ops/infiltrator disguise from the gameplay point of view. In ET disguise was almost useless when not playing with newbies becouse experienced players could notice a cov op easely. I was kinda hopeing that disguise will be better in QW. Also does anyone know how will the disguise system actualy work?

(Hakuryu) #67

Good question.

I think I remember reading somewhere that a GDF can spot an enemy Covert (whatever Strogg name is) by small machinery looking parts on the model.

In ET, the first thing I look for is the gun a player is carrying, but a smart Covert will pull out their pistols and remove the silencer. I’d imagine spotting a GDF with a Strogg weapon would be an easy identifier… I don’t think the Strogg can use GDF weapons, like picking up a Thompson as an Axis in ET… but I might be wrong.

Another question is how will the detection system work.
Will a health bar/ name tag show up when you look at a disgused enemy? It was really easy to detect a disguised cov op in ET becouse sometimes a health bar/ name tag didnt show up when you look at him, will this be the case with QW?
Will the disguised cov op show to other players like hes carrying his own weapons or Strogg weapons? It seems it will be easy to distinguish Strogg and GDF weapons so it would also be easy to recognize a disguised cov op since his carrying a GDF rifle and vice versa.

As far as I know the Strogg infiltrator needs to take control of a fallen GDF soldier (of any class) if he wants to get a disguise. How will this work? Will he actualy control a GDF soldier and gain his class abilities and weapons? If he will, can he use them to complete objectives?
How will the GDF cov op obtain his disguise? Will he also keep weapons or gain the equipment of the Strogg soldier that he used for disguise?

So back to the weapons loadout.

Let us say that the grenade launcher attachment and the scope attachment to the basic rifle is totally different weapons.

GDF would have 8 different weapons
1 assault rifle (soldier, medic, field ops)
2 assault rifle with grenade launcher (engineer)
3 scoped assault rifle (covert ops)
4 shotgun (soldier???, engineer)
5 gpmg (soldier)
6 rocket launcher (soldier)
7 sniper rifle (covert ops)
8 silenced machine pistol (covert ops)

Strogg would have 7 (8 if that lightning gun is in the game)
1 lacerator (agressor, technician, opressor)
2 lacerator with grenade launcher (constructor)
3 accuirsed lacerator with a scope? difference with the regular one by look ing at the model? (infiltrator)
4 nailgun (agressor???, constructor)
5 hyperblaster (agressor)
6 bosonic orb (agressor)
7 railgun (iniltrator)
8 lightning pistol (who even gets this weapon?) Big bet would be agressor as the 4th weapon instead of nailgun.

Now will each team have the same number of totally different weapons?

The final product should be so that each team gets the same number of different weapons. Right now, I don’t know who gets the lightning gun, and right now, all I know is that GDF has 8 and strogg have 7. If you count the attachments to the assault rifle/lacerator (doesn’t change what I’m getting at) as being one weapon, then GDF gets 6, strogg gets 5.

All I hope is http://www.quakewars.se/pfs.php?m=view&v=67-quakewars-19feb-bild4.jpg stays in the game to balance the number of different weapons each team has.

Also check this one out. It makes me want to be agressor with hyperblaster. I just looks too cool.

For those who don’t believe me that soldiers/agressors have 4 weapons to choose from check these out

I’m fairly sure the lightning gun will be a Strogg weapon. It hardly suits with normal GDF weapons.

(Gringo) #71

I may be wrong but I thought I read somewhere were bongoboy said it was the strogg who got it, cant remember what class tho. I’ll gamble and say strogg soldat.

(cheesecake) #72

Will you supply new maps with patches (like CS:S)?

(signofzeta) #73

New maps yes, patches no. Why do you think it is actually taking this long for the game to be released? They are patching the game right now.

Back to the weapons loadout, you know how the shotgun is supposed to be analgous to the nailgun.

I’d bet that soldier and agressor each has 4 weapons. The 4th soldier weapon would be shotgun, while the 4th agressor weapon won’t be nailgun, but would be that lightning weapon. But still, I still think infiltrator should have 3 weapons to choose from just like the covert ops. So infiltrator should get nailgun even though it does not fit.

(cheesecake) #74

Wow that was fast I’m sure there will always be bugs and security problems that tend to pop up over time but its good to hear that we will get some new maps over time

(Flesh) #75

No pathces? Shurely youre not serious, of course theres gonna be patches, especialy since the game is so difficult to balance. In fact I hope SD will keep a close eye on the game, like Blizzard does with his strategies, and release as many pathces as needed. If nothing else they will need patches to sort out thecnical difficulties that you cant predict in closed testing. And adding new maps with patches would be a decent thing to do and it would also make ppl want to update as soon as possible.

As for the lightining gun, Bongoboy said it will belong to aggresor (i think it was in this thread), but it will be used as a sidearm not as one of the main 4 weapons.

(signofzeta) #76

no effin way, that would mean that GDF gets a total of 8 primary weapons while strogg gets 7. I still think that strogg infiltrator should get another weapon to balance out the number of weapons the covert ops has and the GDF soldier should get a enhanced version of the pistol.

(Ifurita) #77

Is this fact or opinion. If the latter, please don’t state it as fact. RTCW and ET went through extensive beta testing prior to the public release and still had subsequent patches released.

(signofzeta) #78

no it isn’t fact. All speculation. I would call this sarcasm, I just didn’t put the lol in the end of the sentence.

(kamikazee) #79

Numbers don’t count, fun does. And ET:QW is an assymetric game for something.

(Flesh) #80

Yeah, as long as its balanced etc it doesnt matter who has how many of what or something like that
