Lean

(spookify) #1

Has there been any discussion about lean? ET Lean. I no we are not trying to make ET2 or RTCW2 but Lean was very important in SW and very accurate shooters. It seem like this game is going to start leaning toward a very accurate shot so why not discuss lean?

Yes
No
Maybe?

Was never a in fan of lean, in QW it really made the hitbox hard to judge and I felt like a cheep ho’ using it. Not to fussed if it’s implemented though.

A lean’s ok as long as you can’t shoot while doing it. I do prefer the ambush RTCW/ET lean and feel it adds more interesting element than the usual camping and peering round a corner type.

And yet every positive change inexorably brings DB closer and closer to ET2/RTCW2. Mwahaha

never was a fan of lean, in fact, i never used it and put more important buttons where lean is supposed to be.

i think it may potentially slow down gameplay and maybe even encourage hiding and camping. it doesn’t fit into a fast paced shooter.

so, my vote is: no.

Yes I believe we have already discussed this back in December. The general conclusion from memory was that, regardless of who likes or dislikes it as a mechanic in its own right, it would slow down DB and possibly encourage spineless, self entrenching habits amongst the less motivated/skilled/experienced/intelligent players out there.

We’ve all had that experience before where we felt like raging hard, and would have been fully justified in doing so, because half the team spent more time glued to their current spot afraid to die than to push forward towards an actual objective.

Simple Answer: No

Everyone wants DB to be a fast shooter, so lean is wrong in this game.

true story :stuck_out_tongue:

Great Feedback I am “leaning” toward No as well because I do want to keep the fast pace!
Thanks.

Call of Duty? I can’t see myself in a game with similar gameplay “speed” as in CoD. Fast shooter? OK, but not too fast.

(acQu) #10

Fast Shooter is a myth. Lean just gives potential to players, opportunities so to speak. It is not the OP stuff that will make you fear, it never was in W:ET, and W:ET is much faster paced than DB.

How do such theories come to mind

(Humate) #11

In etqw players would use it to screw up the head hitbox mid-fight.
However I would probably vote against it even if it didnt function that way.

edit: already mentioned.

(pulley) #12

I don’t think we need lean in this game.

I remember that in RtCW you could lean around corners but couldn’t shoot. It was a lil advantage for the defenses team.
But in dirtybomb you have heartbeat sensors, mines torrets and other grappy stuff that helps the defenses team enough…

(acQu) #13

Screwing up the hitbox is a more valid argument, but i really can’t say that “slowing down the gameplay” would be a valid one. This to me looks way too over-theorized. And it is also dangerous, since there is a brought agreement on theorizing stuff in advance and then not even try it. This basically boils down to how you will approach gamedesign. If you never put it in, you will never know, and the theories are dangerous aka prevent potential and mostly totally overrate things. That it slow downs the game doesn’t make it right if everyone says it, only because there was some seemingly convincing and elaborate speech about how it slows down the game. If stuff is explained well it doesn’t make it right. You gotta go down and really do it aka implement it, let that stuff in, and keep letting it in even if there are whiners all over the place.

Agreed. Lean slows down gameplay.

(Rex) #17

In ETQW pro you couldn’t shoot when leaned, do we talk about this?

But to be honest, I don’t mind.

(Samurai.) #18

I wouldn’t mind lean being implemented as long as you could not shoot or carry out objectives while leaning. I see it’s function being towards ‘peaking’ and basically spotting enemy spawn waves too communicate to the rest of your team without exposing your position/model entirely. This would be a competitive aspect to the game (more useful with lower player numbers that are all on voice comms - timing tactics with spawn waves) that i don’t think would have much of an impact on public and therefore would not slow down the game dramatically. ETQW Pro 1.0 had leaning like this, and i have to say it rarely got used at all but still had it’s place. It’s hardly at the top of my list for priorities, but seeing as it’s being discussed this is just my contribution.

(acQu) #19

Yes. I didn’t realize that there are different definitions of lean. Lean + no shoot + the head is visible = my definition, and that surely doesn’t slow down the gameplay.

In vanilla W:ET, leaning was almost the same, but you were not visible. Modding wise some mods added lean visibility afterwards.

(Breo) #20

Better not, but if it will be added at least disable shooting while you lean because you can use the wall as shield so it harder to hit you and for some weapons (sniper, fieldops ar, soldier ar/mg) it will be very effective in combination with crouch.

In ETQW I had the feeling when you crouch + lean the head hitbox is half inside the body hitbox?
