Laptops not compatible with ET?

(Kujo) #1

Maybe it’s just me. I have a PC that runs ET just fine and I just recently got a laptop as a gift that has all the required specs to run ET.

My system is:

Intel Pentium M mobile processor 2.8 Ghz
256 MB DDRAM
32MB Integrated Intel Graphics Card

That’s really all you need to know. The problem is that when ET boots up it does everything just fine. Runs the little opening cutscene and everything. Then it gets to the profile creation screen. I want to call what it does lag. The background still moves, but the sound clips and the mouse won’t move. Nothing responds. ctrl-alt-del, alt-tab, etc. I have to do a hard boot and the next time I start ET, it doesn’t do the “check_com crashed,” as if ET doesn’t recognize that it messed up.

ET is properly patched and freshly downloaded, so I know I’m not missing any files.

I did a search for similar threads and found a guy with the exact same problem, but the only thing we had in common was the fact that we were both on laptops.

Any help is appreciated.

laptops aren’t traditionally built for games, I think your intergrated graphics card may have something to do with your problem.

Some newer laptops come with “proper” graphics cards, you may even be lucky enough to have been given a laptop with a separate agp slot and space for a mobile radeon or something.

32MB Integrated Intel Graphics Card <-- Is your problem, and is truely not ENOUGH.

I have an Dell, Intel 1.3 / 512 DDR and ATI 9200 64MB and can attest its definately the Intel Chipset thats your problem.
My Lappy runs ET nicely but set it next to my mates who uses the same Intel Chipset, mine runs a million times better.

My advice is to get a stripped down config for ET and latest Intel drivers ‘xtreme2’ and try again…

I have a NoName brand laptop, Celeron 2.4, 512mb DDR, integrated Radeon 9000 (nice resolution: 1400*1050) and it plays ET just fine. Not as good as on my desktop, but definatly playable  It is indeed your integrated vid card that focks it up i think.

I feel your pain, Kujo - tried running ET on my laptop (which also has an integrated graphics card). Turned everything to the bare minimum settings, and still couldn’t break 20 fps…gave up at that point. :weird:

I have an emachines 6805 laptop with the athlon 64 3000 and a radeon 9600 64 mb chip and it runs like a champ. 125 fps on average and no real problems.
Price, $1200 with rebates. Not an Alienware or a Sager but it plays all my games and has a 15.4 screen and integrated wireless. Not too shabby.

Laptops can run ET fine.
I have an IBM T40 (Mobile 2.8,32 Meg Radeon Mobility, 768 RAM) and I get 45 fps steady pretty much on all maps with some minor tweakage.

The drivers can make a BIG difference …Im using the Omega ones. The standard drivers gave me piss poor performance.

Certain laptops can run it fine, not all
