Laptop for gaming ...

(eq-Shrike) #1

Having just landed a sweet contract job which will involve a fair bit of travel I have decided to get a laptop for gaming …

What should I be looking at ? Alienware ??

Money is not an issue … I just want something sexy :stuck_out_tongue:

Cheers

Olli

i would go 4 somthing with high ram 512mb or if money really isnt an issue then maybe 1gb a fast CPU about (2.5) onwards, the latest graphics card say 128mb onwards a router for advanced online gaming (eg. x box live ps2…) and high speed interet. and a big HARD DRIVE say 120 gb or around that.
this is if money isnt an issue tho but personally i wouldnt go for a laptop for gaming but i know of ppl who doand have no trouble so ur choice.

I dont think laptops are made for gaming lol

They overheat too much

If you want a laptop that you can actually use as a laptop (i.e. carry around and use on batteries), you’ll probably need to make some compromises on the gaming part, especially on graphics card.

Models with pentium 4 and nvidia 6800go are fast enough for any game, but they are probably quite heavy, hot and don’t run long on on batteries.

I recently bought one with Pentium-M 2ghz and a ATI mobility 9700. The CPU is awesome, the gfx card is not that great, but it runs both HL2 and D3 ok’ish. And it’s quite portable, and runs nicely on batteries.

One thing to look for other than the specs, is how “fast” the screen is. On some laptops, the lcd screen will lag quite much, making it less suitable for gaming.

Dinner table at the fledsbo’s two weeks ago:

  • fledsbo: About the new laptop I’m buying, does it matter what it looks like?
  • mrs_fledsbo: Nah, as long as it’s not… like… red
  • fledsbo: oh… ok…
