know any quasi-realistic, urban or natural environment maps?

Any suggestions for a map/mod that provides a realistic environment? (I’m not focused on map gameplay, bots, etc, although it does NOT MATTER if suggested maps contain those elements). I’m trying to develop some open VR stuff and all I can find are maps that have castles, space, gore, which is not suitable for what I want to do.

I guess I’m after single player maps and/or mods which provide nice floor, walls, buildings, (perhaps models, such as cars) or anything in general. (can even be natural terrain). The map “chronic” http://gr.bolt.com/download/pc/action/quake3_chronic.htm
provides the closest idea that I’ve come across. The critical factor is that these environments should not be fantastical; It seems “space maps” are quite popular.

I’ve been trying to convert some maps from Soldier of Fortune II, but there are problems converting to Quake 3 maps. They provide some nice environments that could be used in a virtual environment.

Any ideas/suggestions for maps (even from games other than Quake 3) would be great.

thanks people

I suggest you download the “urban terror” mod for quake3 http://www.urbanterror.net/news.php

Urban Terror is probably the best example of realistic Q3 level design that you’ll find. The first party maps are good, but don’t forget about the third party ones either. There’s a lot of quality levels there…

I also recommend map-depot.com to help get you started in that direction.

I think chavo_one’s map Venice has a realistic/modern/contemporary look:

An Enemy Territory map called ‘Sabrepeak’ has a nice tropical island them to it:

Try a map called Dubrovnik or Braundorf for more urban settings …

Is Sabrepeak still alive? Seems I haven’t heard of it in a long time.

The guys at ‘fsgames.net : [X2] The Server Returns’ rotate the map.

…other servers running the map are:

Seems he REALLY wants to know…

(fretn) #9

he’s asking it polite and he’s not crossposting on this forum, so what’s the problem ? :frowning:

(EB) #10

Why do you think there is a problem ?
I posted it as reference so that we can all look back and forth at opinions, because the exchange of information is a GOOD thing.

Did I ever say it was bad ? NO. I said that “he Really wants to know”…I only see a few people from here posting at Map-center, so take this as ‘me informing you about something you might want to know more about’.

P.S. Why the negative response ?

(IneQuation) #11

I’m surprised no one mentioned True Combat so far. Both Q3 & ET versions contain realistic urban maps.

I did >> http://www.map-center.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=57106#57106

(kamikazee) #13

Now that’s the downside of posting on 2 forums.

I could probably find the same question on another mapping forum…but then I’d look “snivel-ous”, even though I’d just be spreading the <3.

[sarcasm]Great…now I have to link this post to another forum that I posted on last week and alert 33 people to the post from the other section too. God, life is not easy. [/sarcasm] :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:
