i just played several games with Kira with the katana(specifically the B84 loadout), and let me tell you, i dont know why, but Kira with katana is infinitely better than phantie ever was, and probably ever will be. i dont know if it’s the speed, the smaller body size, absence of super-conspicuous cloak whine and emp field, or what, but i was slaughtering people left and right with Kiratana. whether slowly walking up to sniper camps or just all around jump-everywhere-cut-everything, rarely did Kiratana fail me.

calling it now, Kiratana is the next lord fletcha.

Since they added the rotation speed limit during melee attacks, that’s the first time melee weapons are enjoyable and almost efficient (in most cases, you’d still be more efficient by firing than rushing then melee).

Of course, there are kira’s katana loadouts which are currently in my personal top tier for her (mostly for double time and explodydendron on Dreiss/Stark), but they’ve also added interesting loadouts with good melee capabilities on other mercs (cricket bat + quick slash on proxy is a good amount of fun).

I think, beside the fact that the rotation speed limit could be improved to be less cumbersome, they’ve done nice additions to “promote” melee back again.

Let’s enjoy Kiratana as long as we can, an unfortunate overnerf is coming yet again to katana, thus making it absolutely worhtless.
But seriously, Kiratana’s are easy to take out with guns, they don’t have much health anyway.

@B. Montiel Explodydendron on Kira is pretty much useless, it only affects the initial impact radius

Kids these days don’t remember the 20% damage chopper, Stilleto Aura. Crazy woman could instakill a vassili with a right click, not to mention that the (quite stupid) nerf to sensitivity on right click was non-existent.

It’s not like they aren’t used to it but they have only disadvantages using melee against such character.

Kira as in laser + burst + katana in chapel is one of the most op shit I have seen in this game.

Watch your back more? Is a huge problem in this game…no one watches their backs…or even watches anyone elses back…so much people leave themselves to be open to these fast melee flankers.

If you’re in the middle of a firefight and get flanked…well even a Rhino could do that.

Can you confirm?
And… um… I’d like to see you consistently hit some of the Kira’s I play with and play myself. Even level 30+s have a hard time hitting bouncy Kira with her Katana.

It’s like proxy with shorter ranged shotgun.

I play Kiratana myself, and it’s not always all melee-happy. All cause I get shot in the face and quickly die. Even quicker than Phantom. At least Phantom (with Cricket bat) has enough health to run away, but not Kira. If she’s hit, she’s done.

One burst to the head and sayonara Kiratana. I remember the second day of 2nd gen I was in a lobby with YT’ers just going Katana only and just not do well lol it was funny tho.

yeah, very frequently i kill, say, a vassie camping pretty far back, but not that far away from the rest of the team, once i kill the vassie, he didnt immediately try to warn his teammates, nor did anyone a little less far back than the vassie.

Well I’m not so sure. Simple test, bring the laser at the edge a roof, and try to fry enemies who are protected by the roof. I think you’ll have more kills with explodydendron.
Besides, counting the number of time I fry myself with explodydendron than without is good proof enough for myself :p.
