killed while paused?

(crazyfoolish) #1

if ever i need to pause while playing online when i un-pause i usually find that while i was away i had been killed.

Now, with most shooters this isn’t really problem because your goal is very linear (shoot the enemy, capture the flag etc etc) however, in brink what with the objective wheel and class changer thingies it appears that a bit more than the normal amount of the game will be spent in some sort of menu.

What ideas do you guys have for not getting shot while you are either finding a new objective or changing your class?

Thanks.

go spec instead

word!

(crazyfoolish) #4

I’m sorry.

How does one “go spec”?

(LyndonL) #5

Go into spectator mode I’ll assume

No you won’t really need to spend much time in the menu unless you are a bit on the slow side. It has been said that you can quickly tap the mission button and it will select the most important mission. If you have got a quiet moment you can take your time to select another mission as well.

As of dying at commandposts - you better not need minutes to choose your gear.

Darth pretty much has it, and there are other shortcuts we’re working on. He’s also right that there’s a certain risk vs reward for using Command Posts in the field, you really don’t want to be dallying…

  1. At command posts - If you can change your weapon loadout without respawning, is it possible to stand at command posts and constantly change your weapon, or can you only change weapons every 20 seconds or so.

  2. Do you have to face the little computer screen thingy, to change your weapon… or can you stand in the room and face the exit in case someone approaches?

kthxbi

Godmode button in a multiplayer game? Bestest idea ever.

  2. As noted in some of the recent hands-on previews, you can just stand there and change weapons all you want. You will most probably get shot in the back, because…
  3. Yes, you have to face the screen thingy.

The risk/reward element of class swapping will be interesting, especially when coupled with the aspect of taking over/defending command posts as a gameplay element for bonuses and buffs as mentioned in some of the previews. Hopefully it just doesn’t turn command posts into unusable camp points though.

(crazyfoolish) #12

Yes. Hopefully splash damage will design the maps such that camping near the command posts is an impossibility.

(Nail) #13

in both the commercial games that SD have done, camping is unrewarding, there’s always a counter and campers just die

(.Chris.) #14

Spawn camping is hardly unrewarding though, keeping a team pinned down near where they spawn while you have someone completing an objective is anything but a wasted gesture, even if you just delay them, the extra few seconds it will take them to reach the objective area could be all the difference needed.

You need to do it as team and is a calculated risk, you need to know the enemy spawn times and such to be effective and ultimately make it work.

(Nail) #15

never said it wasn’t fun, just hard to justify in W:ET especially with Mortis’s ETPro scripts, tower spawn in Railgun made it a way better map

only play QW on LAN, never a problem when you can walk over and smack someone for being an ass

(Exedore) #16

It’s more that it’s not really benificial… as we’ve said many times, just killing people won’t get you many points, and Command Posts are purposefully positioned away from your main objectives. It creates a nice ebb and flow, as stalking a CP leaves your actual objective a man down.

(MILFandCookies) #17

That depends on whether the points is a greater motivating factor to winning - is it not?:magicpony:

(Apoc) #18

Surely if you kill 1 or more people from the other team per spawn wave then it cancels out the fact you are a man down and may in fact help the team depending on the number you kill?

(Exedore) #19

Oh sure, I didn’t mean to say it like it was an absolute. We’ve seen a lot of different things happen in playtests, but yes, kicking ass does tend to help your team in most situations.

As shooting backs… camping certain command posts will make a difference even if it’s for the sake of ruining other team’s fun.
