Keyboard trouble with ET 2.60 on Fedora Core 4

(deej) #1

I was so happy to finally get my ATI drivers working on Fedora Core 4 so I wanted to play ET a.s.a.p. It started with a very good experience: ET starts great, works very stable and all that, the only thing is: it interpretes my keyboard wrong!

What I mean is, I have an azerty (Belgian keyboard) and without pressing shift I can’t select weaponbanks nor make voice chats (the latter being a good thing perhaps). This is very annoying.

ET seems to interprete both the literal scancode coming from the keyboard while gaming plus the actual value passed to it by XOrg. So when I press KP_0 it reads a zero and a Ins at the same time :(.

Anyone have any suggestions for this? I mean it works fine under windows where during gaming ET falls back on scancodes only (unless you go into messagemode i.e. chatting) but under Fedora Core 4 I haven’t found the solution yet to achieve this.

I tried an ugly hack like this where I created a etkb.sh file which contains:

setxkbmap us
et +set fsgame etpro
setxkbmap be

but of course you see the trouble that I’m stuck with Qwerty keyboard during all aspects of the game…

I tried tinkering with in_ parameters (in_shiftedkeys etc…) but alas to no avail so if anyone has any suggestions they are more then welcome. Google didn’t bail me out on this one so I put my faith in the linux gurus here.

My system is a running Fedora Core 4 on PIV and XOrg 6.8.something with be-latin1 as default keymap.

I’ve tried playing with the loadkeys command but that didn’t help me out either.

Thanks!

fedora core 3 - be-latin1

bind 0x22 “weaponbank 3”

the voicechats need shift, or switch to the alphathingie voicechats, you get used to them really quickly
