Keyboard config error! Please help!

(Robocrap) #1

I have a weird bug it seems.

I can’t reassign the arrow keys for movement. When trying to assign up arrow key it turns to the shift key instead.

I’ve searched everywhere for a solution but noone has been able to help me so far.

I have a problem with sprinting too. It doesn’t seem to work.

(Sorry for my bad English)

Are you using any sort of multi-function keyboard that has special feature keys or extra functions? If so, try diasabling those features.

As a side note: I used to play on arrow keys, but then I switched to using WASD and my game improved a LOT. IT was a little odd at first, but you are able to group a lot more keys close by to your movement keys, which means less hand movement/finger stretching to use special keys.

Turn numlock off.

(damocles) #4

Numlock has no effect at all on my arrow keys. I can play with it on or off. Might be older keyboards have that problem though.

(Robocrap) #5

I turned it off and it worked again!

Thank’s for the help.

Sprinting doesn’t work though.

:frowning:

You need to have “always run” enabled for sprinting to work. It’s an option in the menus somewhere I think, but it should be enabled by default.

If you can’t find it, look in \etmain\profilesyourname\etconfig.cfg for the following line (if it isn’t there, add it):-

seta cl_run “1”

Make sure the value is “1”, not “0”.

(twiFight) #7

if you say that having lotsa keys nearby is handy why are you playing wasd then? With esdf you have much more keys available and in essense it plays the same as wasd

(damocles) #8

IT would with one difference. To the left of my wasd setup there are large keys such as shift, caps lock and tab. It’s a lot easier to hit these larger keys with my uncoordinated left pinkie finger than it is small keys

(twiFight) #9

true, but you can reach further than one key anyway, so one small key to the left and than another big key. These are the keys I use with my setup:
tab, q, w, e, r, t, h, g, f, d, s, a, capslock, shift, z, x, c, v, b, ctrl and spacebar. And sometimes the numbers 1 to 6 to but I sometimes miss them

(damocles) #10

Woah there, way too many keys. You gotta simplify, man!

I use wasd for movement. Shift for sprint. Ctrl to reload. Alt/c to crough/prone. Space to jump. 1-4 for weapons. E for use. Q,R,F for weapons 5,6,7. B for binocs. Mouse for everything else I need.

tip , if u have a scroll mouse and u can press ur scroll wheel, use that key for the reload :), works like a charm

I totally disagree. Middle mouse button is the worst button invented ever.
I love the wheel, but ffs keep it a wheel and don’t make it a button.
I might consider putting reload under my 2nd thumb button but I don’t wanna go through all the trouble configging my mx500 to work in games.

on some mouses u can use the wheel as a button, and its great for reloading, because now u can just click ur mouse and u dont have 2 fuck around on ur keyboard 2 reload… thats my opinion anyway… just try it… mayb ull like it

my mouse can use the wheel as button too, that’s not the point.
the point is that I think it shouldn’t be. I have tried it often enough but just don’t like it as a button. And what is wrong with using the keyboard to reload? fuck around? I know where all the buttons are without thinking about it and reloading is so natural to me that I often think “huh wtf, did I reload already? didn’t even notice”

Hell no. That button is bound to weaponbank 3. It’s far too time consuming to move my “forward” finger onto the number 3 key. There are many times having the SMG on the middle mouse button has saved my hide. With my setup I can easily switch to other items using my hotkeys, then always go right back to the SMG the instant I need to. Of course, this only works when there’s a half decent field ops on your team.

And I only ever use the scroll wheel for sniper zoom, never for weapon selection. That’s just suicide.

wheel down: smg/main weapon
wheel up: pistol
thumb button: binoculars

wsad: move/strafe
e/r/c: special weapons
q: grenades
f: second attack (deploy mg42/mortar etc)

(Kendle) #18

Deja Vu? Seem to remember we had this recently. Anyway:-

Mouse 1 - Shoot
Mouse 2 - Sprint
Mouse 3 - Reload
Mouse 4 - Activate
Mouse 5 - Class specific weapon toggle (i.e. SMG/Dynamite/Landmine when Engy, Binocs when Field-Ops, SMG/Needle/Health when Med, etc.)

(Being left-handed, mouse 5 is thumb)

MouseWheelUp - Pistol
MouseWheelDown - Grenade

Movement - Cursor keys
Shift - Jump
CTRL - Crouch

(Lean = Mouse4 + left / right cursor keys)

ENTER - Weapalt
DEL - SMG
END - Needle / Air-Strike / Pliers / Smoke Canister
PGDN - Health Pack / Ammo Pack / Dynamite / Satchel Charge
INS - Knife
HOME - Pistol
PGUP - Grenade
KP_INS - Binocs

Note: DEL, END, PGDN etc. sets Mouse5 to SMG when used so I can always return to SMG after using another weapon / tool with a mouse click.

I have mouseware installed but my secondary thumb button is bound to [BACK] (for use in browsers). ET does not recognize this function as a bindable key. I use this button really really often so I don’t wanna bind it to something else.

Now I have read somewhere that you can config all mx500 keys in ET but you have to install another program which I don’t want to do.
