Keybinds, match times

(TheLawra) #1

Hello!

I took another long break but decided to come back to see what’s up with the game. I missed this all so much. Also, congratulations on 1.0! I truly hope we see a lot of new players and I really wish DB will finally get the attention it deserves!

However the cruel reality is hitting me in the face again. I have been playing a lot of Overwatch and no matter what you think of the game you know it has this quick communication wheel/system that I found really handy. You can keybind hello and I need healing to specific key (or just use the wheel). Dirty Bomb needs that, badly. The current “quick” chat system is not handy at all. V-5-4 or whatever, yeah no. If not a fully operational quick chat system, why not allow the players at least to bind chats and sayings to a key. That would make a lot of our lives a lot easier. Imagine, just pressing a button instead of three of them, and your character say hello. Sounds lovely. (unless this all exists already and I haven’t found it, in that case, please oh please tell me where to find it, thank you <3)

TL:DR — give us a handy lil quick chat system so we can say hello and request healing, or give us the ability to bind hello, for example, to a specific key. Thank you.

I wanna also address the match times, especially on Trainyard. I have a love/hate relationship with that map, but hey, at least it’s not Dome, amirite? Anyways, I have played so many games where we gotta blow up the station, than another thing and then deliver the detonators. It feels like we have two thousand god damn years to blow up stuff but when we gotta deliver TWO (2) detonators, we have like 2 seconds and we all know how easy it is on the defending side to lock it all down (few turrets, for example, here and there and ain’t nobody walking into the site).

TL:DR — there is not enough time to deliver two detonators in Trainyard. Most of the time, if we get one there, there isn’t enough time to get the other in no matter what. Usually it’s either a brutal defeat or pure unadulterated luck. Am I the only one that feels like there isn’t enough time, no matter the skill or the team composition?

Anyway, I hope you all have a nice day! Thank you in advance for any replies and/or help!

If you don’t spend “two thousand god damn years to blow up stuff”, you will have more time to deliver the detonators.

Haha, good point! But seriously, the amount of time the team spends on the 1st and 2nd objective… that shouldn’t count away from the last objective. It has it’s own time, right? If so, my point still stands. If not, my jesus that explains a lot and I want the earth to swallow me bc of this embarrassment :joy::laughing::fearful:

(shaftz0r) #4

people get really hung up on this sort of thing, The game is primarily meant to be played in SW mode. That means you arent supposed to get the obj done if the defense is even halfway decent. I think a lot of players have a really hard time with that concept

(DarkangelUK) #5

I can understand his confusion, RtCW and W:ET SW modes were about who could set the fastest completion time, DB being so defender biased its who can defend the longest.

(TheLawra) #6

@DarkangelUK (*theirs, btw) anyways, imo, defending is always much easier. Most of the games I’ve played, defending doesn’t take nearly as much effort as attacking. In most of the maps like Trainyard, the third objective site is so easy to lock down. There are exceptions, yeah, sometimes especially with a good team, attacking goes really well and sometimes defending is super hard. Mostly though, in a lot of other games as well, defending is a bit easier. And thank you for sharing your opinion

@shaftz0r you mean DB is supposed to played mostly in the SW mode, meaning Stopwatch? If so, not everybody likes that mode, which is fine, of course. I mostly just do objective, get into a game as fast as possible. If you didn’t mean stopwatch, excuse my lack of knowledge in terminology, haha. And thank you for sharing your opinion

(shaftz0r) #7

yes, im referring to stopwatch  thats why in obj mode, it adds time after every obj. If you do 2 of them fast, theres actually way too much time to attack. every phase has its own difficulties

(TheLawra) #8

Ah good, I got it right, haha.

I thought there was a certain amount of time to do each objective. Lets say, hypothetically, there is 5 mins to plant the first bomb, 5 the next and 5 to carry the detonators. I don’t know if accomplishing, let’s say the 1st objective, in 1 minute, takes away or adds any time from/on to the last two objectives.

(shaftz0r) #9

im not sure of the exact time countdowns, but say you do the first obj in 2 mins, it adds (insert number here) to the remaining time you already have. I think its diff for every map, but i could be completely wrong, as i dont play obj much.

I recommend you dont either tbh. You’ll find that sw adds soooo much to the game as its the way its literally designed to be played. Also the players are much better and adds a lot to the overall experience

(TheLawra) #10

I’ve played a lot of Objective and I haven’t noticed that completing an objective adds or takes away time when completed in a certain amount of time. I gotta check on that, but I don’t think that’s the case.

I have tried SW. It was a little meh for me personally, I could try it again, though and hope for the best, haha. Thank you for the suggestion

(Teflon Love) #11

I don’t recall the exact numbers but it should be something like 7 minutes for first obj, 5 more for 2nd and 3 more for the last, resulting in a total of 15 minutes. If you finish the first 2 objectives in 10 minutes (instead if the available 12), 3 minutes are added for the 3rd objectives but the 2 remaining minutes are still available so you have a total of 5 minutes for the last one. (Again, the actual numbers might be slightly different, the the principle stands.)

If your team is quick and finishes the initial two objectives in 6 minutes you have 9 minutes for the last one.

(TheLawra) #12

Alright, okay. Is this time thing also in non-comp games, bc I don’t play comp? If so, damn, this is bizarre to me, haha. Thank you for informing me though.

(Jigstraw) #13

It’s not 15 minutes that you get in objective mode, it’s actually a total of 17 if you complete the first two objectives.

I think you get 6 minutes for first objective, 6 minutes for second objective, 5 minutes for last objective added, something like that. I know it totals 17 minutes on a full defender hold on last objective though.

Regarding the quick chat thing, you sound like a lazy dude. Just try to ignore your laziness and actually try to remember the buttons you need to press to say something, if you do so, I give you ONE week to adapt to it. I can press the 3 buttons I want even if I’m in combat, the only hardest ones for me are the ones that requires pressing 6,7 or 8 at first, since my index finger can’t reach them, I actually tend to use my right hand (the one on the mouse). You can also buy a mouse with a numpad, yes there are mouses with numpads on them.

(TheLawra) #15

@Meetrock Hello! I’m not lazy, really. I just think it would be handier to have a better quick chat method. I CAN press the buttons and do the thing, it’s really not that hard, haha. Buuuut there are easier ways to do that that other games have adapted. I just wish there would be an option at least to bind hello to something. The quick chat as it is in the game, works fine, not saying that, but I wish there were other options. But thank you for your thoughts!

@Jigstraw Alright, thanks for letting me know!

(Meetrock) #16

So you want it to be like Fortnite or Overwatch? Heck no, I am fairly sure the way it’s done in DB makes it special, since the speeches in it are so unique and a lot better than most of other games (some even sell you the speeches).

(DarkangelUK) #17

I actually agree with laurelstrange, quick chat binds would be really handy instead of having to fumble through a DDR quick chat finger dance from memory. SD’s previous games W:ET, ETQW and Brink allowed you to bind quick chats to specific keys (albeit via config, but we actually asked for that option way back in 2012/13) so it’s quite weird and disheartening that they left it out. Having quick chats in no way affects DB’s somehow ‘uniqueness’ by giving easier access to specific request/commands/insults.

(Meetrock) #18

I still can’t see why it’s very important and why people need it, I’m fine with the way it is right now, I even assigned the way it’s done to DB, if it changes for me, it’ll look awkward, like you’re experiencing a new game. And I still think that people who want binds are lazy.

(DarkangelUK) #19

It doesnt need to change, vsays will stay the same with the option to bind specific chats to specific keys. I don’t see why you’re so against something that doesn’t affect you, or why people are somehow lazy for wanting something convenient, logical and efficient that will help in aiding communication in a fast paced multiplayer game.

(TheLawra) #20

@DarkangelUK Thank you for agreeing with me! You got what I was after. The current system works, but it could be handier. I am not saying it’s the worst thing ever but I would love to have even an option to bind the stuff to a certain key, via control settings or configs.

@Meetrock I don’t play Fortnite, so I don’t know about that. I am familiar with OW’s chat system and yes, it is so handy. For example, I press 1 and my character says hello. I press 5 and they say understood. I like that. Or I can use the wheel and not bind anything. Personally, I find that better but that does not mean DB’s system is crappy. It’s different and while it works, I wish, personally at least, that I would have the option to bind. It’s cool and alright that you like the system so much. Just because some want change, doesn’t mean that tomorrow DB’s gonna have a brand new system and the old V-5-4 is erased. In my perfect world, the old system would exist along side of a newer one, that’s all

Thank you both for your input on this. I appreciate it! :speech_balloon:
