Well deathmatch is the main component on brink and any other fps imo, team with the best fraggers usually wins.
just let me shoot people
like 99% of the players who left the game !
like 40 000 on the first 2 days it drop to 700 ! SO ? do you think i’m just alone to think like this !
i have noprob about console I just say if they make a game for different platform you have to adapt to each one ! that’s all !
so be a fanboy if you want I really dont care
Brink sold 70% of copies on Xbox. 700 on steam doesnt equal 700 total. on xbox you rarely see bots now. i always have problems getting in friends games because there always full. so would you shut **** up and stop saying no one is playing this game. im sorry. i really dont think your trying to purely troll the game, but is am soo sick of yyou poping up in random topics just saying that no one is playing.
morning people.
some progress has been made here i see.
we have the “dont like brink, play cod” faction that doesnt count. i like the feel of brink, i dont like the feel of other modern shooters.
my opening post is a bit cynical, but it has valid points that are actual issues that imho are the reason more and more people leave brink.
i speak as a casual player and i report only experiences ive made. it is a fact, not an assumption, that most, if not all, maps are horribly imbalanced. when people fail to complete anything on map xy repeatedly, they will just leave. they wont just rage quit, no, they realize that here is something wrong that is no fun at all. this is one major issue that can not be ignored. this is a fact.
the second major things are actually the minor things. the core game is running fine. there are barely major bugs that destroy your gaming experience. actually i dont know any major bugs.
but there are the little things. there is the chunky feel to smart. when you run around, moving over small obstacles, matresses in some maps for example, it feels bumby. this is just one example, it happens pretty often that you bounce up and down. this can easily be solved by something leveldesigners call “clip brushes”. this is a core element for leveldesigners to create a smooth experience.
then there is the interaction with both players and objectives. the autofocus and autofollow is probably one of the worst decisions splash damage have made. let me give some examples:
there is a spawn wave and you want to buff your team mates. one runs away and you smash the “use” key to buff him, running after him. automatically. the routing system has already its problems tracking him. you get a speed boost, the fov is altered. you finally get to buff him, you stand still for a short while. now you have to manually move again. is the a smooth gameplay experience? not in my opinion.
issues with reviving team mates has already been talked to death. again the autofollow. gah.
interaction with objectives… you get stuck on a position, unable to look around. you can move left and right while you must a hold a button. in most cases people use their index finger for the “use” key. usually your index finger is for movement. letting you hold a button down with your index finger changes your playstyle and the feel drastically. but, basicly, my point here is that you get stuck on the position when you complete objectives, unable to look around.
and then there is the interaction with incapacitated enemies. i mentioned it in my opening post already. the automove has its difficulties guiding me to opposing players i want to hack. players lay right in front of me and the system does really weired things i cant describe. it makes me run around when i dont want or have to run around. it makes me reach a player i already reached.
so, this are the issues i and every other player is currently having. the overall gaming experience in brink is bumpy and bugged. and the really sad thing for me about it is that there already was a functioning system in both wolf:et and etqw. but it was streamlined to console controls and was destroyed on the pc. we got a console port actually. one button to rule them all…
and to get back to my actual topic. a lot of the bugs and issues i described here can easily be erased by adding a game mode where all the buggy functions are not neccessary. in deathmatch you simply dont have to interact. in deathmatch there is no objectives goal that is unable to reach.
deathmatch is just run around and shoot people. and that pretty much works in brink.
I guess because most games for console are complete garbage and BRINK actually brings something new to the table in terms of movement. At least for consoles. If you look at the movement in previous (pre CoD) PC games you’ll see there were games with much better movement and a faster pace. Also consoles don’t suffer as much from the ridiculous high spread because most people can’t aim properly with the gamepads anyway. I know there are some pros who can do amazing stuff with gamepads, but the majority of players just sucks in terms of aiming.
Actually you can look around. Its an additional ability in Brink. Its an universal ability, so you can use it with every class you want. Exceptions are mine planting, turret planting, returning objectives and attempting disguise. You can see yourself in 3rd person view and pan around the cam while you are hacking a command post, planting a charge or planting a hackbox…
yes, dont get me started on this. third person in a first person shooter. dont like that at all, but thats my personal taste.
what my point was though, that the interaction in brink differs from the interaction in previous titles released by splash damage that worked better. and that it got streamlined to comform the console players, but actually does the opposite for pc players.
I can’t speak for the consoles but on PC SMART actually slows the game down, artificially so to speak. Can’t help it but to think that maybe it is me trying to play the game faster than it is supposed to be played? Maybe on consoles the overall pace is a bit slower and it all works fine and doesnt feel clunky. Let me give you an example of what I mean. Have you ever tried to go down the conveyer belt on terminal from top really fast? There are some random bags and stuff on the ground when you come from the security side and always when I run over them with my light body char I start to bump around and just missing the entrance to the conveyer belt thus slowing the game down … I need to stop walking, resposition myself in order to get down there, it is really annyoing.
there’s no more people to shoot at !
only bots ! hope you like it sometimes you have one real player !! the bluriness of the line between multi and solo ! so cool ! is there a multi ? I didn’t notice !
Hmm, when I don’t feel like completing Obj’s, I just set my Obj Wheel to “escort Bob” or “Capture Com Post” or ignore it completely and then just kill kill kill kill die (dammit) kill kill kill, etc.
HOLY CRAP! It’s just like TDM!!! I kill people and people kill me! Hooray! Sure, my team is kinda screwed b/c I’m not directly helping them complete the Main Obj, but at least I’m killing the bad guys and having fun.
I don’t get the NEED for TDM really. If Brink had Obj’s like: Sit in the corner and hide for 20 minutes!, then I could understand the desire to want to just frag non-stop. But every Obj ends up in a massive firefight sooner or later. Even when I play as my Ops guy and I’m hacking (HIDDEN IN A CORNER!), most of the time, I am running around like a headless chicken trying to avoid all the bullets whizzing past my screen.
So, unless you’re facing a team full of noobs, you’ll be shooting at and getting shot by enemies throughout each game whether you focus on the Obj’s or not. That’s good enough for me.
You can run around and frag around randomly. Thats not the point. People also want to win. And theres no chance of winning when everyone of your team is running around killing baddies while ignoring the objective.
Maybe a more simple objective mode, like CTF* would fit both parties(pro obj and pro k/d). I don’t know, but it would be nice to have just one map/mission where both factions are in the defence and offence alike.
*The Brink version of it. Where the Res has to capture critical tactical data from the Sec and Sec has to retrieve the coordinates of a weapons cache. Something like that.
Play CoD modern warfare then. Running around with knives, double barrel shotguns and such. There’s no thinking, just shooting.
What is it with you guys and this stupid cod arguement? If you don’t have something constructive to say leave it. I never played any cod or moh game. And I only played Battlefield two 4 or 5 years back. I’m more the flightsimulator guy. And you may have noticed it, there are !automatic! shotguns and kniefes as well in Brink. And please don’t try to convince me that every round of Brink is like playing a chess match against kasparov.
The tactics in Brink are; spawnrape, choke point cluster#uck or no tactics at all. But I will repeat it again, I really really like this game. I’m just making a little suggestion here and there. Only some random quick ideas. Its a forum here and I like to share some thoughts with others about this game. And hearing this cod-$hit the 999999 time isn’t very entertaining. And you bub are for sure a cod-moh-bfbc2-spawncamping-roofsniping-noobtubeing-forum-and-reallife-troll.
Brink FTW
Over and out, Rock 'n Roll, good bless America.
why does everyone bring up COD when referring to death match? it wasnt the first to have death match and won’t be the last, death match has been in tons of games and is pretty much always successful and there successful because its simple and fun, im not saying objective game play isnt fun… but it will get boring and death match is like a stress relief.
whether you want to believe it or not brink is dead, or at least close, a death match mode might give it a bit more life at least.
Lets face it, objective game play can get really stagnant (Run here, then there and defend this thing) after x amount of rounds everyone just automatically does the same thing, because sooner or later people find the easiest way and then stick to it.
Death match would hurt no one, And I don’t see why people have to irrationaly protest anything related to death match, Not all people who play death match are 13 year old COD players who- Well you know the stereotype, I for one like death match because i can just play, I dont have to worry about anything else, I can come home from working with dickheads all day and turn my brain off and just play, no objectives or having to worry about dickhead team mates.
Adding a TDM mode, which goes hand-in-hand with adding the ability to see what player’s K/D ratio is in-game is the exact opposite of what I want to see in Brink. I admit, I own both MW2 and Black Ops on my 360, and anytime I play online I notice a change in my gameplay style just knowing subconsciously that the K/D ratio is viewable by my fellow players. Because of this, I play a lot more defensively (never to the extent of camping), continuously check the scoreboard to assure I’m at the very least over a 1.0 K/D ratio, and if I start going negative I usually end up leaving the match or turning off the game entirely.
All that being said, I haven’t touched any Activision FPS game in over a month now, and anytime I have wanted to play a shooter, it has been Brink I have been popping into my disc tray. The fact that I can focus entirely on a team objective and do well, even if I am not killing to the best of my ability in a match has really gotten rid of that CoD mentality/game play style of hiding and assuring you kill more than you end up being killed. Also, TDM wouldn’t be fair to all the classes, as some classes like soldier are clearly built better for dishing out damage and killing enemy players, while other classes have more of a stealth/backup position like operative, and wouldn’t get have much of a use outside of objective-based matches.

This, this and this. Why does it hurt to have at least 2 or 3 maps wich also features DM, TDM or CTF. It wouldn’t hurt and it would bring new lifeblood to this game. And we could see Brink from a totally different perspective in an instant. I would still play objective, WHEN I WANT TO PLAY OBJECTIVE ORIENTED. It becomes repetitive after you guarded the maintainance bot for the xxbazillionth time. I want no other shooter, I just want some additional game modes and not being forced to accomplish one and the same objective day after day, week after week and month after month.
We are humans and humans aren’t build to do the same stuff over and over again. Thats why so many people are nuts. Because we have to do the same objectives over and over again in our real life jobs. I don’t want to continue this after work. You may say but DM is even more repetitive. Well, maybe thats right in some way, but its not so specific like the very definitve objectives.
And face it people, the most successful sports are some kind of DM or TDM with a k/d ratio and it never gets boring. show me some objective based sport that is under the Top 20 of played sports in the world. See?!

Honestly, I would welcome TDM with open arms. It couldn’t hurt. The level design is awesome IMO. Some of the levels could be cut in 2 or 3 different levels and be made for small, intense TDM or DM.
I guess the only issue with be that some of the abilities would be useless, especially in DM mode. If SD would just create a TDM/DM mode with your character’s size, looks, and weapon loadouts and then remove the abilities, that could work.
I’m not gonna lie: I’d play some TDM with Brink’s engine. It would be awesome.
And TDM can also be part of the story of Brink as well. What happens after Security wins(in the campaign)? Yeah, TDM forever. And maybe DM after everything goes totally down the drain(no more resources).
OP is so true. I want to vault over ish, and shoot people. That is pretty much the only reason I bought this game. To wall-hop and fill someone with sweet hot lead.
