just let me shoot people

(kilL_888) #1

consider this my random good night post. its just a tad serious. more cynical with some truth in it. experiences ive made.

yea. after playing operative the last couple of rounds i realize more and more where we should be heading. watching minor glitches when i hack people. constantly crouching and standing while disguising. stare at the smart system that tries to figure out which route to take to the enemy i want to hack that lays right in front of me. making me slide through my own teammates just to guide me to the corpse i want to hack.

looking at the bad balance of maps. defending teams owning the attacking teams at their spawn for several rounds on several maps. worthless bots filling for rage quitting human players.

i realize… we need deathmatch. just run around the beautiful maps that are obviously so badly balanced for two opposing teams completing objectives.

just let me run around and shoot people, thats all. i’ll even pay for that. it obviously is too difficult for most people to understand the game when i see only engis and soldiers on my team trying to complete a hacking objective.

screw the depth, screw the tactics. it didnt work out.

…what is sad is the slow chipping away at Brink. until it devolves and is twisted into a standard generic boring shooter. I think I will pass, bro. But there are like 5 COD games that would work and you’d have none of the problems you mention. well, you’d still have rage quitting human players.

(noupperlobeman) #3

1=/= everyone.

I like the game how it is, so do many others.

I will concede one point though:
Creating a deathmatch mode would keep out the baddies who don’t understand what a team based game is all about. I’d rather play with bots than a bunch of COD wannabes who don’t bother with objectives.

But then my fear is that there would be even less people playing the objective game modes.

(kilL_888) #4

first. dont bring up cod. cod is still a totally different game than brink. there is no smart in cod and you die almost instantly. brink is pretty much the opposite, which i love about it.

second. the problem is that the “oh so uber cool” objective mode can be even more boring than deathmatch (well deathmatch is never boring though). have you ever been spawn raped? or have you ever own an opposing team at their spawn? it gets boring pretty fast.

yea, its fun for 2 minutes to own the opposing team, but you realize, hey, this isnt skill, this is imbalanced. and then it gets frustrating for both sides.

same with choke points that are not that rare in brink either.

going to bed now. gn8.

(wolfnemesis75) #5

Nighty, night. Dream of Deathmatch and pwn noobs with uber cool skillz. When you wake up, Brink won’t have it.

there’s no more people to shoot at !
only bots ! hope you like it sometimes you have one real player !! the bluriness of the line between multi and solo ! so cool ! is there a multi ? I didn’t notice !

Right… Because none of the awesome games you are thinking of have the possibility of spawn trapping right? Brink is the first game to ever have spawn trapping as a problem!

No way cowboy. As long as there are degenerates sitting behind the screen, there will be a way to spawn trap/kill.

It’s not our fault that computer gamers are prima donnas these days. “Oh, this game is designed for all! How unfair! We deserve special treatment because we use a mouse and keyboard!” That is why the computer fanbase for Brink is so low.

Get off your high horses computer players. Like or hate the game, and move on or stay. Just because you want to be the special little snowflakes of the gaming world doesn’t mean companies should bend over backwards to please you.

Before you rage about me being a console tard, I’m a computer gamer at heart. The only thing I lack is the “we are special” mentality most modern pcers seem to be vomiting into their keyboards all over the internet. My gaming computer died and I’ve not yet saved the money to upgrade.

Fair enough. There must be a reason why the fan base is low on the pc, and high on the consoles. I’m not going to pretend I know what it is.

And fanboy =/= me. I’m defending a game I enjoy from the endless complaining. I never said the game was perfect, but it’s much better than most people want to believe. A fanboy feverishly refuses to accept there are problems with the game in question, even when faced with proof.

The fact of the matter is pc players wanted something different, and expected something different. i feel sorry for them, but they are at the mercy of their own laziness. I’ve said it in other threads: It is YOUR fault you didn’t do your homework before you bought the game. I read reviews, watched youtube videos, and read consumer reports for a week before I decided I’d buy the game. It was YOUR responsibility to be 100% sure you would like the game before you bought it. The company or the game didn’t screw up, you did.

The big problem with objective based games is you can’t do your job right away like in a dm. I mean you can kill, but that doesnt directly influence the outcome of the match. In Brink the enemy is more of an annoyance than in a regular shooter, since you gain almost nothing from fraggin them. And that wouldn’t be a problem if ALL! the people would play objective oriented. Its crazy to see 3 Engies 4 Soldiers and 1 Med at Reactor(resistence side), or 3 Ops in CC(first sec spawn).

Spawn point issue:
Sec Tower for example; after nechayev is out of the infirmary it takes longer and longer for the resistence to reach him. After he’s past the tower’s wall it becomes so dull to run there, get owned and spawn again. After a couple times i really have the feeling of not only wasting time, but my life as well. Its simply no fun. I mean SD can do what they want, and you guys can tell me how much I don’t understand the game, but in the end stuff like the resistence spawn in sec tower, the CC spawnrape and the resort bridge destruction objective keeps people from playing this game.

As I stated in a different post, I will stay as long as there is brink, but I really hope they change some spawnpoints and make this a faster paced and especially more balanced game. I mean you can see on the stats, that the defence wins almost 7 of 10 matches. Thats boring for the defence and anoying for the offence.

They can change more with new spawn points than with a new patch. The second sec tower resistence spawn is the worst of them all. Resort, Reactor, Terminal,Shipyard(except the second sec spawn, even though its in the bounderies of “OK”) are good, Refuel is mostly ok, Aquarium is ok, CC’s 1st sec spawn is mostly good, but if you get stuck in there you have almost no chance to change it around again. After the crane repair the spawnpoints are good in CC. But I think SD can’t change the first sec spawn in CC, but they can easilly change the second resistance spawn in sec tower.

(wolfnemesis75) #11

I found on Sec Tower that it is indeed a long hall when Nechy gets close to the gate. But I have found some solutions and tips that work. Double check the two command posts. The one near the hack portion under the stairs, and the one at street level. And upgrade them. The first one is seldom guarded, and nearly always forgotten by the enemy near the wall. The street level one draws away some of the enemy. You can also attack from the street level via this command post. This is a solid way to crack the code on the ramp chokepoint. And also keeps you from heedlessly running towards the wall where you are exposed from the highground wall.

Sorry what now? Our ‘homework’ is a pattern of previous SD games the delivered what we needed and required as a platform, and were told that we could expect the same via Brink as well. We were told it was a spiritual successor to those games, so much so that it was referred to as “ET3”. Numerous interviews and posts in here gave the impression of what to expect from a PC stand point, and most, if not ALL the discussion on here between players and devs before release was geared at PC because all of SD’s previous games were PC focused and there were little to no console regulars on here. SD didn’t release a demo for us to play, they didn’t show ANY PC footage at all, all Expo and press sessions were with a controller… so please… enlighten me… what other homework should we have been done?

(.FROST.) #13

I mostly outflank them(Sec) from the health command post.I rarely use the ramp. And capturing this post is really the best way to scatter the enemy, but after the sec wall it becomes really dull. Run, get sniped, wait, spawn, run…

Once security fortified our(resistence) initial spawnpoint and had nechayev behind their lines. He had only three meters to go, but we couldn’t achieve it, even though we had plenty of time left. The spawn is just too far away. Sometimes its fun when there is some kind of progress, but mostly its just not fun at all to play this last phase of the mission as resistence. Its frustrating and boring.

SD shorten the mission time if you want, but place the res-spawn nearer to the front court. Maybe half the distance it is now.

(wolfnemesis75) #14

Once Nechy behind the lines there are several ways to avoid getting sniped. Take the route through the gate is well covered by the high fences. Stay low and go. Or traverse the Wall past the right side that overhangs the hallway to the loading dock. Vault over this and drop down when you have numbers. Always wait for numbers. Another thing that works is climb the wall and go through the small room to the far left of the wall near where the enemy spawn and delay them or cause a diversion. Also, value your life more. Don’t look to respawn. Stay behind cover and use the lean feature to divert the attention of the enemy and keep from getting exposed. If you get knocked down, wait for a medic.

(noupperlobeman) #15

I concede this point. I wasn’t around during the early days.

But how about you act like an adult and own up to your mistakes too? You couldn’t have waited a week to see some real gameplay? I wait at least a month before buying any new release, no matter what the hype.

Or did you absolutely have to be a bandwagon jumper? Just had to get your hands on the shiny new release that everyone else was buying. Couldn’t you just have waited a bit? It sounds reasonable to me. Anyone that has been with videogames for awhile should know not to expect perfection right out of the box. Especially a pc player at that.

I’d also like to see some source material on all this misleading that splash damage did to you guys. I see talk about this, but I never see any proof.

I’m sorry you feel burned. But in the end you are responsible for what you do with your dollar. Let the company know, and move on.

You all sound like there isn’t a shred of enjoyment to be had with this game. This is why I hate forum communities, they are mostly composed of the complainers and not actually people who enjoy the game.

(DarkangelUK) #16

By that admission I should have to wait and put no trust in SD themselves to deliver consecutively for me, my faith in them was brought on by previous games and interactions with them, hence the day 1 purchase.

The proof is a peak player count of 980 worldwide each night on a weekend for a game that was purchased by about 200,000 people. I’m not going to insult you by calling you naive and accuse you of thinking that 199,020 of those players are spoilt PC players… when numbers that high shift, there’s reasons beyond snobbery.

What I don’t get is how console players can even pretend to begin to think that they can view this from a PC players POV. Unless you’re from that platform, there’s no way you can comprehend the feelings the PC community have given towards the game, or for that matter even begin to understand them. No amount of explaining will help this, so just accept that as a PC game it failed to deliver big time… the numbers speak for themselves, all that’s required is some common sense to realize why.

(wolfnemesis75) #17

the people who enjoy the game are here we just get inundated with the bitter lost souls that got somehow misled or are just plain confused as to what they wanted…

(DarkangelUK) #18

All you’re willing to see is ‘bitter lost souls’. SD are being given valuable insight to exactly how a game bombed on the platform they have most experience with. I’ve never interjected on the xbox discussions regarding the game as it’s not my platform, I couldn’t comment either way because I simply don’t have the insight to do so… just like you don’t have it from a PC players perspective. So please, leave the ad hominem attacks at the door and try and contribute with reason and validity drawn from actual knowledge rather than with personal bias. You have no knowledge from the PC side and the history behind it, therefore only the last part is true.

(Je T´aime) #19

Well to be fair all games cept cod/l4d/cs/tf2/bc2 all go really low on numbers after 1 month or so.

And TF2 now beyng free with kinda similar class system/teamworkd/sdk/ and stuff probably kinda hurts brink, while brink is like 49$ and full of bugs.

The core of the game is pretty fun, fun the gamemodes get boring in the majority of the maps, while in other games you can choose to attack or to defend or just chilll and frag in brink you are “forced”.

About the topic i kinda agree, i understand that k/d is a bad thing it makes me mad in bc2 all the snipers and campers that just camp and dont help the team at all, they just care about their precious k/d to show to others how good they are.

But TF2 system wich only shows the Frags not deaths its reasonable, newb friendly and pleases both sides of it, and yes sometimes i´m bored too when its just impossible to get the 1st objective and i just go around tryng to frag.

And to finish the core of any FPS is to shoot and frag no matter what people say.

(TruGamer97) #20

You want deatmacth then play something similar or is cod brink was meant to be something new
