Its amazing how they build such complex maps

Like WOW. If you open the editor and load Goldrush and see the amount of work they put into one single map its staggering. I mean seriously amazing, some people take map making for granted but to produce these types of maps takes real talent. I’m constantly saying to myself, “I never would have thought of that” or “great attention to detail here”. Some of it looks so realistic that I wonder if they actually visited these places first hand!

Nope sadly we didn’t have the budget to fly to the actual places and take photographs (although this would have been ideal), but we did however collect as much photo reference as possible, (books and the net being the best sources).

It’s really worth doing your homework first before you start into a map because a good wealth of reference can really help you with those detail areas, plus then you actually know what a place should look like rather than conjuring it from your head.

I randomly went into RtCW today… and out of the huge amount of servers left (148) I decided to go back to my old stomping grounds, Tux which hosts Blitzkreig Forest… and… running through it with Monkey, MANY things looked familiar… it was really cool running up certain mountains and being like… “Hmmm… this place looks way more familiar than it should.” I invite everyone to go see what I mean! It was really fun realizing it.
