The loud minority here again?

Read my original post idiot, the game was released EARLY! why? When there is obviously lots to work on, it should of been delayed. The basic fundamentals do not work, so many issues and missi g features, we nearly, n-e-a-r-l-y have another OFPDR on our hands…

False advertising, lack of quality, polish, and respect for a developer, the 360 is very poor we expected so much more, congratulations to the SD marketing team you should be proud of yourselves. :frowning:

I have it for PS3. Really enjoying it thus far. Have seen a few things that could be improved but then I could say that about any game.

I don’t think Brink was ever trying to outdo other shooter games. I don’t think Brink was supposed to be the most polished or best-looking game in the genre.

Lots of you have complained about the grenades, whereas I think they serve their purpose. Their weakness seriously stop frag-spamming. They’re not actually supposed to blow up or kill opponents really, they’re supposed to knock them over, give them something to worry about and offer you and your team a chance to pummel them whilst they’re bowled over. I think it’s a fresh usage of grenades and it makes you think cleverly about using them, not just throwing them down any alley hoping to get a kill or assist. Most of the game is centred around one or the other team attacking or defending an objective, pushing or holding back the opposition by 'nading them and knocking them over to be picked off is ideal.

I’ve heard similar complaints about the turrets, not powerful enough and whatnot. I think they’re ideal. They’re not there for wiping out any enemy in sight, but a way of supporting your team, nipping at the enemy to give them something to think about and yes, sometimes wiping them out! It means you don’t just place a turret anywhere, you have to place it cleverly and tactically. That for me is a joy, it’s a test of skill and creativity.

I was really worried about my pre-order because so many were criticising so many little things around the major flaws. Whereas I’m a bit fussy with a lot of things and I really appreciate quality, but Brink delivers and all the little niggly things for others I tend to disagree on. I like all the “flaws” so to speak as they’re all what sends Brink in a fresh direction. It’s been a long, long time since I’ve played a shooter that feels new and original.

The graphics on the PS3 are ideal for the job as well. They’re not award-winning and it’s not ground-breaking but it fits it’s purpose.

As for the AI/bots, I haven’t played too many games where the bots are any better or smarter. These guys slide, melee, vault, parkour, shoot, grenade, guard areas, complete objectives, stick together in clusters and work as a team. On ‘hard’ mode I find it a joy. Normal mode is a little too easy but it’s always a challenge and I haven’t really had an issue with the bots. Even the team-mates, I find they complete objectives even if the onus is on you to make the key decisions, I find that I can even play as one particular class throughout each mission and complete my objectives whilst my bot-mates do theirs as I support them.

Sometimes they do stupid things but I can safely say that’s the case for any AI in a game that I’ve experienced.

Having looked at the texture/graphical differences between XBOX and PS3 I can see why it might be a tad disappointing as a 360 player, and I can see some of the “flaws” on the PS3 but it’s never bugged me (no pun intended) because once I get into the full on, fast, relentless mini-wars I don’t need to focus on little texture irregularities.

The majority of the reviews have been spot on by the major names/sites. IGN and the other below par reviews are false, ignorant or biased IMO. And I’ve agreed with some IGN reviews in the past that have looked harsh or overly critical. E.g. they marked the game down quite a lot for the ‘sound’…? Ridiculous. The soundtrack is lovely, again fits it’s purpose ideally. The game sounds fit their purpose and the ambience is set ideally as well.

What I see as the major problem for most players is that they want or expect something different from Brink. They want more elements from their favourite games to be in it so they can familiarise with it easier, be better at it quicker and enjoy it more. I for one can see all the differences as fresh and original.

Brink is fun and I haven’t even played it online. If the lag is really bad then that’d be a major disappointment but I suspect that it can be fixed and I’ve read a lot about Splash Damage following the progress of the game thus far and doing what they can to improve it.

Thanks for a well thought out answer, but it would be great to hear from you once psn is back up.
Nades are poor most time you can’t tell if you have even thrown them when it’s busy no visual power at all.

You can’t diss brink without being called a ‘child’ or having your spelling errors ripped on sorry, the fanboys will get you.

(mdevonb) #47

Seems like, aside from the grenades, most are agreeing with his complaints. The ‘child’ and spiteful grammar comments are more focused on him spending the time and effort to make a SINK box art and calling people idiots, instead of deciding he doesn’t like the game, posting why, and bowing out.

(GingThu) #48

I knida feel for them though, because Splash has really made it hard for them to enjoy this game. Lets face it, the online for 360 is broken, getting in laggy match after laggy match is not acceptable, ESPECIALLY from a developer whos been around. This isn’t Splash’s first game, there is no excuse except oversight or laziness.

I am optimistic because Paul Wedgewood did release the blog (or whatever it was) that said they are urgently looking into the lag issues. I like Devs who actually talk to the community and let them know they are looking into things.

They better put some time into a better party system because people want to play with their friends. I give them till the end of the month to get things together, after that i have no choice but to return it, just to much pain and frustration trying to find a game online.

Because that’s a real grenade…

Be aware that looking into something, and promising to fix it are not entirely the same. Words are selective at times, and can be decieving. I just hope they’re being legit and not just trying to hide from the problem like a little kid or something.

(Clanstier) #51

I bought the game today for 360 - i hope the patch helped, i read a lot of lags & co. how you describe the situation.

I myself like the way grenades work in Brink.

Sorry to hear that Brink isn’t the right game for you.

No imafraid not it’s like a trump, and smoke last for 2 seconds then instantly disappears :frowning: bfbc2 nade were great looked and sounded powerful. I really wanted/want to support a uk devs but releasing it early just reminds me of cm and ofpdr which in all honest should of got cm in court that game was on 20% finished and only had 2 mp maps that were unplayable.

brink feels the same , the hype machine did well as this **** sandwich is currently un swallowable they lied to us, what does that say about a uk developer? Not good. Very disappointed they could of used the extra time to fix online issues but no they released EARLY without giving a f*

This is copied and pasted from sarcastic gamer. Source: http://sarcasticgamer.com/wp/index.php/2011/05/broke-brink-is-broken.html

(Bakercompany) #56

I think the grenades function perfectly, and I love what the underslung grenade launcher does changing it to an impact nade. I also love how they are a cooldown instead of a replenishable item.

I do wish the explosion was a bit more profound, sometimes I get knocked down and i’m like “Wtf nobody melee’d me…oh wait a grenade.” The Molotov’s effect is great and very noticable.

However i’m perfectly fine with grenades the way they are. The guns are the shinning star of this show.

The only changes I want are patchable and not actual changes to the gameplay itself. Just check out my sig…

4th time trying to post a response the database like the game is Broken…

(OldMcNastyNutz) #58

Are the grenades supposed to be grenades of today? Maybe they just can’t get good explosives to fill grenades. Composition B might be hard to find on the ark. They might be packing them with smokeless powder that is used in the bullets. Who knows…

Brink’s story needs to come out more. When I first saw the grenade go off I was kinda thinking maybe it was some different kind of grenade. We are predisposed to think a grenade is a grenade, but maybe SD is thinking deeper about it then you know. Or maybe a just gave them some ideas or I’m just full of Resistance poo. Who Knows…

Enjoy the game.

Agreed see your point, but a nade is a nade it’s powerful it should be aggressive and fear inducing, instead we get a baby fart in a wet bag… Seriously splash what you thinking.

oO Para oo:

Dude, stop being a drama queen. Read the first paragraph of your first post in the thread.

You are either done with Brink, or you aren’t. If you truly don’t care about this game anymore, act like it. Don’t post. Do something else, sell/return the game.
