Issue

(Tranq) #1

Hey everyone, quick question.

Maybe this has already been touched on, but oh well…

I just bought a brand new comp: 3.4 p4 with HT, a gig of ram, audigy 2 sound, 256 ati radeon x850.

So I tried running ET, and the menu and all that is fine, but when i get into a game…it runs for about 5-10 seconds just fine, then it suddenly will crash my system and I will have to reboot. I think i read something earlier about ATI cards having open GL compatability issues. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Upon further reading, I have found other people with the same issues. They state it is a PB problem, I guess ill see what happens when i take the steps mentioned in that post. I doubt its a driver issue because the computer i bought is a week old. Hopefully they included all the updated drivers on the system

Prebuilt systems rarely comes with the latest drivers in my experience, so looking for updated motherboard/chipset and GFX card drivers is a really good idea.

Also try changing pb_system in the console.

From the PB docs:
“PB_System [0/1]
PB can conflict with other software on some systems due to vigorous memory scanning; Changing this setting may reduce or eliminate conflicts if you have problems on your system; this setting can only be changed before connecting to a server”

Thanks to both of you. You were both right, I needed to update the CATALYST driver for the Radeon and that fixed the PB problem.
