Isn't it time to finally get rid of RNG

(n-x) #1

The only thing they achive with RNG is players getting more and more annoyed. The whole RNG system behind this event is so unnecessary complicated. So many people are just plain disappointed. Even those who got or will get cards will probably not get the ones they like. Everything with RNG will leave a bitter taste behind. If they want to get people play more, why not just the trinket system from WtD. And when you reach a certain amount of time, you can pick a card you like. If they fear inflation, then they could increase the time for the next card, and after that increase it more.

I know their sole current income is from the elite cases, but isn’t it time to change their financial system. There must be other ways for them to make money and people getting what they want. It just damages the game more than it does good.

I really can’t understand their obsession with it.

Well, at any time you can buy any bronze card you like and ignore RNG completely. I know @Amerika despises all RNG and pretty much just buys the bronze loadouts for credits when he wants something.

If you are talking about Shinier cards like cobalts and event cards, they will probably always have RNG involved as that is their current business model.

games like this need RNG. even CS:GO has it with their cases. if you get rid of RNG, might as well SD and Nexon discontinuing Dirty Bomb.

(n-x) #4

@Ardez Actually, I ignore it. I have the cards I want in at least bronze and I am good to go. I dont care about all the rare stuff. It’s nice to have a cobald, but thats it. But you cant deny that there was a huge backlash over the RNG in the CW event and in this event. And thats plain and simple harmful to the game.

(doxjq) #5

If everyone could just buy the exact cards they wanted there would be no point in having different rarities.

(Ardez1) #6

Well, this isn’t an excuse for the current system, but it is something I have put a lot of thought into.

If everybody could pick the exact card they want, would it still be as special when you get it?

(n-x) #7

@ardez @rancid You could make them more expensive. You could tie them to in-game achievements. I dont get the fascination with rare cards in an FPS anyway but for others it seems important. The way I see it the disappointment of all those players who didnt get what they want outweights by far the “I got lucky feeling” of those few who get what they want.

(doxjq) #8

I used to think the same thing Kilben. I think I even started a thread about it one time suggesting they could put all cards in the store and just put the prices up for higher rarities, but now I think it’s a silly idea.

RNG is a bit dumb but games like this kind of rely on it.

(n-x) #9

@rancid I dont think that RNG is the only way for them. They could easily open a store with different weapon skins, different model skins, accessories, and what not. Making the system about indivdualisation of mercs not about rarity. And introduce a force enemy skin command to spare people of the eye cancer creations that would result out of it.

(Gandalf_The_Bae) #10

i think RNG is fine to an extent, but it needs caps, you shouldn’t be able to get one of the Event cases after 1 game with 0 boosters (which we are seeing many people get despite it apparently being highly unlikely that they should be able to, whatever that means), whilst other people could play 200 games with a fair few boosters active and get nothing

The people who get shafted by the RNG are not going to put money into the game nor are they going to stick around after they get repeatedly beaten down by the system, and they probably wont recommend the game either.

its a fun game , but the RNG overload with 0 caps just sucks the fun out at times.

(SereneFlight) #11

OR maybe they could just sell a lot of stuff that wouldn’t invovle RNG bullshit.

(b8rpwn1337) #12

@SereneFlight the game will sound pay2win.

(b8rpwn1337) #13

But, another interesting model is TF2. If o ly Dirty Bomb has trading

(SereneFlight) #14

Oh no the possibility of selling cosmetics that wouldn’t involve RNG bs sounds p2w…

(doxjq) #15

I agree they could use more customisation @Kelben. I don’t think opening up all the loadouts for sale is the right way to go though. There is plenty of other accessories they could make though. Items you equip to your merc similar to the way you equip trinkets to guns (perhaps cosmetic items), skin add ons, gun sights, gun sight skins, etc.

The gun sight thing is really bugging me. It seems like such a no brainer to me. Their arguments against it make no sense. The comment one of the developers made about it being pay to win with sights just seems ridiculous to me.

(Gandalf_The_Bae) #16

sounds a lot better than pay2hope

(n-x) #17

If you want to keep rarity you could create a system that unlocks perks and skins over time. You start of with the base skin, after x amount of time you have the option to unlock a certain card without any perks. After another x amount of play time with that merc you unlock the first augment, then the second, then the third. Then you go up in rarity. In the end you have a rare card and have the feeling you accomplished something, because you invested time. If you want to make money out of it, charge a small fee when you want to unlock silver, gold, cobald status.

(RazielWarmonic) #18

More customization is something we want to do in the future. It’s not on the “short list” however. We have bigger priorities at the moment before we start churning out more customization.

Examples of these things could include model/mesh changes, unique rewards tied to events (Level, ranked, achievements are all examples), ability skins (looking at you, Rhino and Nader), melee skins, etc.

These are all ideas we are bouncing around, but could take a while to implement and currently sitting at low priority until we get things like the two new maps in, balanced matchmaking, community servers, etc.

(Please note the COULD, nothing is set in stone at this point.)

(gg2ez) #19

RNG might be the most painstakingly annoying business model ever. Don’t give me any of that ‘the devs need to feed their family’ bullsh*t either, you all well know that the devs are far enough capable to make money without RNG.

(b8rpwn1337) #20

@SereneFlight grind all the way!
