Is this spawn camping ?

We are having a “hot” discussion about spawncamping.
I would really like to know your opinion…

Go here and read the topic. (You don’t have to registre to post)

Nope.

Spawn camping/raping is only a problem when the teams get unbalanced. Like when the axis push the allies back to their spawn hut on fueldump. This is when its bad since frustrated allies will simply leave the server and your traffic starts to drop. As a part-time server admin, this is when I step in with either a shuffle or simply moving some guys from one team over to the other.

Even the excessive stuff like a panzer or flamer in the spawnroom never last long. They might get their 5 kills or so, but from then on you have people who check around the spawn before they leave.

9 times out of 10, the counter to spawn camping is to press your move forward key before you spawn. You hit the ground running, get through the doorway quickly, and make the most of your 3 seconds of invulerability.

Nice forum avatars, by the way.

Most of the things in your list are cheap rather than spawn camping. Nothing wrong with any of them unless you get boxed in which is annoying

My definition of a spawn kill:
“If you spawn, don’t move, and get killed - that is a spawn kill.”

([B]Visa) #5

Nah none of that is really spawn camping… at least none of it really bothers me most of the time…

Pretty much all spawn points have at least 2 ways to get out so you have options:

a. Take the longer route out (few seconds longer typically)

b. Rush out and kill whoever is camping (or run through arty)

c. Upon respawning, sit there for a few seconds looking around, jog outside and get splatted. After aforementioned splatting, proceed to bitch and moan about spawn campers while you’re waiting for respawn. Rinse and repeat.

Unfortunately, the people that get camped the most are the ones that seem to choose the “c” option… Go figure :bash:

Ike-T

btw Speaking for myself and probably many others that enjoy a little spawn camping from time to time, if you whine about the camping it only encourages me… Best to just grin and bear it :drink:

im a great believer that spawn kill whiners should be kicked,

there is nothing at all wrong with sneaking into the enemy spawn point and setting about knocking a few of them off before being detected.

there is nothing wrong with pushing a team back to their spawn and holding them there

the one and only thing exception i have is mortars on the first axis spawn on rail gun, but i dont complain about it, its just enormously infuriating, that you team is so shit that it has been pinned back when they are the attacking team, doh.

what is it with people on rail gun, just “escort the vehicle” ffs if 10 people follow the train i guarantee that baby is going all the way

This reminds me of RtCW beach… when I wondered how the Axis could be camping the allies… they’re essensially coming to invade the Axis on Boats, and from the water… to call it spawn camping is insane I always thought.

In any event… if I’m ever (by most people’s definition who cry alot) spawn camped, I just hang back for my limbo time to get ready haul ass out of there next spawn and try to get behind those bitches. :drink:

Does wasting a group of players from long range with a PF or MG count as spawn camping? I played goldrush recently, set up a mobile MG nest up the truck route, and Axis soldiers kept coming out of the courtyard spawn right into my fire. I must have hammered three spawn groups before they got smart and wasted me. Go figure.

(SylverDragon) #9

Considering that I have seen Axis teams set up an MG in the corner of that small hallway (as they come out of their spawn), I would say that, as soon as they round that corner, they are fair game. Especially since I tend to clear out that MG with a rifle gernade (if I catch somone else, too bad, your teammate made that a valid fire zone.) I also tend to run through the Axis spawn to get to the gold. When the axis are doing a good job of holding the courtyard (or my team is too afraid to make a push)
I find that running through the back, and grabbing the gold tends to either get me a gold crate secured, or at least some disruption in the defense.
Run around back, pitch a gernade in the MG nest, and sometimes one on the head of a mobil MG in the exit to the tunnel, run in to the back of the bank, strafe out and back real quick to look for MG’s in the bank, prime rifle gernade, strafe out and launch RG, strafe back, watch for the kill message, and go grab a crate. If this is timed right, you’ll be comming out of the bank with a crate as your team makes a push, and before the MG’s are setup/manned again. If this is timed wrong, well at least you silenced the MG’s for a moment, and disrupted the defense as they came back to kill you, maybe your team will take the initiative and make a push before the defense is back together.
Not to mention that people whining about being spawn camped probably need the practice dealing with such situations. I’ve been there, had people sitting in my spawn, and have gotten nailed by them a few times, and I whined like the little n00b I was, in the end, I felt it made me a better player. I no longer expect my spawn to be a safe haven, it made me a bit faster with my gun, and I have learned how to go the other way out of my spawn point, Its amazing how often this is over looked.
For example, I’ve been on an Axis team that was in pretty much the situation you described. Come around the corner, get gunned down, wait, try again. After being taken down the second time (I thought the first might be a fluke), I spawed, turned around and went out the first archway. I was then able to kill the people keeping me and my teammates trapped, though not before they had killed another round.
Personally, I no longer complain about spawn camping. I may send a warning out to my team, or verbally say, “damn spawn camper”, but I know that he’s usually just going to end up being a quick kill the next time I spawn. Its part of the game, and an avoidable one, heck, you are invincable for a few seconds when you spawn, That should be plenty of time to kill or at least scare off the spawn camper, if not, you’ll be back in a few seconds and can finish the job. Now if one team is completely trapped in their spawn for an entire map, the server probably needs a shuffle. Though, I have seen a guy get sneaky and start completing objectives while his team was being held inside their spawn (railgun, damn covert got out and stole the tug from the depot yard, and got it back before anyone noticed) If anything, I leaned that spawn camping can be a dangerous tactic from this. Now, anytime, as allies, we are holding the Axis in the shack, I spawn at the depot yard, and go the long way round, and check the tug and my mines.
Oh well, I think I’ve rambled on enough, I’ll stop now…

its a game, its war, ya spawn, ya die.

Ya get a few seconds MOVE.
If your dumb enough to run out the main spawn way immediately you deserve to die. If you whine “spawn killers” you deserve to die. If you cant even get out of spawn, you deserve to die. MOVE.
I read tha list in dat forum and none of it was spawn killin. imo
Spawn killing is an old concept from quake2 and before. when the big debate was if i someone is on an Indivudual spawn pad and they get ~railed before they can move they would whine “spawn killer” MOVE

ITS WAR.

if your team is bad enough to not get out of spawn… FIGHT…go to another server

If ya dont wanna die in the game maybe ya should try sims

Only weak players whine “spawn killers”.

:skull:

Sims are actually very flammable. They are also permenantly tired, have serious bladder problems, they sit down in thier mansion and watch thier 50" TV cinema sound, swim in thier pool while eating barbecue food, play games in thier personal arcade and nightclub, listen to thier £5000 stereo, use thier futuristic computer, then still have the nerve to be unhappy. If theres something that can be broke/pissed on then it WILL be broke/pissed on.

In short, NO. Don’t try the sims.

LOL you guys are sooo funny!
Our forums were getting a little heated on this subject I have to say! :eek3:
But really glad that so many people here agree about the topic
IMO spawnkilling is someone stood in the area that the enemy reappears in after death, with a panzer, satchel charge, dynomite, whatever! repeatedly killing them
Killing them after they have left this area is fair game :bump:

(Bongoboy) #13

I think the general rule is that if you kill me, it’s Spawn Camping. If I kill you, it’s fair play.

:moo:

(Kamel) #14

lmao @ bongoboy… i don’t agree with cheap tactics which are the same as spawn camping for all practical purposes. rail gun is a flawed map, there is only one exit for the axis, and the axis have no extra spawns. yea, many people claim that they can go out any window, but if you got a constant artillery strike going on the 2 exits of the brick walls, no one is going anywhere, and it’s not really a “smart” strategy by any means, it’s just merely exploiting the map, spawn killing, camping, whatever the hell you want to call it. now, an experianced mortar guy can get you out of this mess more than anything else on your team, and i honestly think people look over this too often. if they are just outside of the spawns and every one of them has a panzer however, i fail to see how this would be any different from them being in the spawn with them.

([VF] Dutch) #15

Spawnkilling doesn’t excist anymore. The few seconds invulrenability gives you a fair chance. As admin for several servers I always give whiners a official warning & mute their ass for one round. I haven’t seen spawnkilling a looooooonnnnnngggggg time. :moo:
