Maybe a audio filter that doesn’t allow them to speak or hear other players?
Is there more that can be done to prevent underage children from playing Dirty Bomb?
Hi Kirays,
Yes, i know that. My concerns go deeper than that though. I can only control what I say during match. There have been many instances where i’m in a room with a child and some overly racist asshole. Get my point?
i’m a father of three and would love to introduce my kids to this level of gaming one day, but not how it is now.
Sooo… you complain that dirty bomb is not kid friendly because of people saying racist things, while trying to introduce a shooter to children where the goal is to kill othe people…
Please correct me if i’m wrong but thats what i get out of you comment.
I mean if the kid is old enough to play those games, wouldnt he also be old enough to learn how to mute people?

why would he/she mute people if he’s not being monitored?
also,i’m not complaining. I’m asking if more could or should be done. I also asked “how young is too young”
You are asking for something already there :
Settings => Audio => Voice Chat => disable Voice Chat, set Receive Volume to 0. Done.
The world isn’t pretty. Censorship and protecting children is one thing, but diluting already mature content to appeal to a broader audience is not the way to go. Muting is your best option although I don’t believe there’s any way to hide text chat without editing the config. Text chat is arguably worse to begin with. If they’re old enough to get a lesson from you about the types of cowards and pricks on the Internet and they won’t be affected by online behavior, then go for it and play with them. If they’re too young to understand and too impressionable, it’d probably be best to get them started on another game.
why are you exposing young children to a 17+ game? YOU need to take responsibility for YOUR CHILD’S environment. YOU are the one exposing your kids to that crap, NOT the game

Does this prevent them from going in and changing the settings? Does this also prevent them from reading text chat?

For the reading text chat, you would have to A: remove the chat text box from HUD by editing the files, or B: have them type “hudtoggle chat” in the console at the beginning of every match. Unfortunately if they press the console key they can still read the chat from there.
Also some of the Dirty Bomb mercs also say some swear words so I would suggest you also turn the dialogue volume to 0 as well. If that bothers you to expose your children to that.

thanks Sniper girl for your response. You and I have actually played quiet a few matches together in the past. THis is Redrum
I’m not planning on letting my kids play this game for a very long time, but there seems to be a lot of neglected children on here being exposed to very negative chat and text from other players. I don’t expect the actual game content/voice overs to be changed, but i feel like there should be someway to protect little ones when their parents obviously don’t give a shit.

Kitchen => Knife => Gouge their eyes. Done.
You can cut their fingers too if you want to be really sure.
But usually only one eye is enough. Proxy never tried to change her settings again.

that was inferred from the context. if they aint your children, why do you care?
if you do care, you clearly assume some responsibility.
Simple solution: turn off in-game voip.
