Is there a PK3 limit in ETMAIN of a Server?

(Mysery) #1

I continue to struggle with the my ShrubET servers running smooth with addtions of maps. If I pack up the maps into bundles, mappacks, so have overall fewer .pk3 in the ETMAIN of the server I can put a lot more maps in without the server issues.

The issues are clients and maybe the server itself have difficulty switching maps. It appears to try to load and reload with an occational final load. Often time you can reconnect and get in.

Anyone else have this issue. I am attempting to run more maps and the only solution I have come up with is to pack files into big .pk3 mappacks. This means the clients will have to download these regardless whether they have the maps inside or not

Abnix, who runs chigc.com has the same problems, and sadly hasn’t been able to find an answer either. But perhaps you can exchange knowledge. His thread is here: http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6374

It’s a bug,

it’s not 100 Mb in total, it’s an undefined number

In RTCW i had 60+maps, so i doubt they would limit pk3 numbers in ET.

On a server ? That bug most certainly existed in RTCW, and continues to exist in ET.

If you mean 60 maps on your own machine, then you would only see the bug if you hosted a game.

The most common symptom in RTCW was clients would reload the map multiple times when connecting to the server.
