Is it just me...

(obsidian) #1

… or are the posts on this forum getting more absurd, pointless, off topic and totally fanboyish of late?

Maybe it’s because everyone is waiting for ETQW and can’t think of any interesting topics anymore? Perhaps cause can be attributed to the recent influx of odd new members from the outer fringes of the Internet?

And yes, I’m aware of the irony that this is yet another pointless thread.

(Bongoboy) #2

It’s a thread about threads.

(obsidian) #3

A bit paradoxical, no? Does that not make your brain feel like it is shriveling up into a little raisin? Like contemplating the vastness of the Universe and the ultimate meaning of life?

(mortis) #4

This thread is a mise-en-abîme…

(SCi-Fi) #5

its cos were bored!!! we want to play the game to give proper feed back!

(=OF=VGER) #6

Yeah that’s pretty much the nail on the head sci-fi. Maybe it was such a rush of anticipation that on the eve of the actual event, the crash has happened! Should see a serious rush of fansite news and reviews once this puppy actually hits the streets. Your in the “void” period because the beta testers have to be “hush” and the demo hasn’t hit the street… although, isnt it mid April as FilePlanet said!! ALL HAIL RELEASE OF THE DEMO!! please!!

(taken) #7

Well I would guess all the cool guys on the forum are playing the beta and all the suck ups are talking shit because they dont have the beta(sadpanda). Thats why there is so much shit. Mostly. I guess.

I can safely say that the posts and threads have not gotten any more absurd over the years. It takes little spikes now and again, but at the moment we are on a downward trend as QW becomes more prevalent in the public eyes, there are less and less “noobs” to ridicule! There are still a few though. :nag:

(carnage) #9

i agree with you on the new user comment. Before QW there wasn’t much interest in visiting splash damage forums unless after some technical information on W:ET or were quite into the mapping/modding scene. Now with all this media release it seems to be attracting a lot of users from a very different background. less technical oriented and more fan club oriented. As a result there is a clash between people who think they know a lot about games because they have played many of them and the oldies here who really do know a thing or two about games by taking them apart installing rocket boosters and putting them back together

also i noticed that there are quite a few new mappers on the scene witch is nice to see but can be a bit frustrating at first when some seemingly simple questions are asked and a lack of searching becomes apparent

and lastly this forum has always seemed to have its own quite clearly defined etiquette and unwritten code of conduct and would even would go as far as to say to some extent a unique sense of humor has started to evolve. with all the new users there is a bit of a break in the traditional splash damage forum way of life

(SKaREO) #10

I’m looking for a new game already and this hasn’t even been released. By the time it comes out I’m going to be more interested in Crysis and UT2K7. Has anyone seen the Crysis level editor? It looks amazing!

(SKaREO) #11

Very informative, thank you for your insight on this matter.

Glad to see SD actually cares and wants to answer important questions.

(Shaderman) #12

I agree with obsidian and avoid the general discussion section for this reason.

(SCi-Fi) #13

yeah i did see the level editor looks very nice, should be able to create a
few maps with ease and if i will be able to use it im sure that anyone will
be able too!!!

The posts are getting a little more absurd, though I consider it as a necessity to relieve some of the tension, or at least camouflage it.

Earlier, we’d have a rare thread in General Discussion where you could discuss some general and mostly interesting topic, now it is just spammed with thousands of ET:QW topics. (Well, maybe not thousands but hundreds nonetheless. When searching for “quake wars”, I get 459 results.)
To make things worse, during the forums downtime, lots of people seem to have been pointed here making them all register shortly after the forums worked again.

I must say I have taken part in some thread derailments, but there are just threads that have no point anyway; not to forget about the spam posts showing up more often.

I don’t think we will see peace returning to this forum section until the focus shifts to the ET:QW pits. (I expect some mass whining due to ET:QW attracting different players.) Only then the interesting topics can return without risking to drown in all these other threads.

This is an interesting thread about non-interesting threads, to be more precise. (Results may vary.)

Thats a matter of opinion tbh, I think its another non-interesting thread about some more non-interesting threads. All you fileplanet suckups will have yer server load test beta soon enough and us plebs who refuse to pay for anything but finished games will still be here ranting on about tapirs full of pear cider.
