Is it getting better?

(Zan) #1

Last 3 or 4 days I’ve found much less noobs around than before. Of every 10 campaigns/servers I enter, in at least 2 or 3 everyone knows where to go and what to do (more or less).

  • People are learning?

  • People who downloaded the game just for being free and didn’t like finally left it?

  • I was just lucky, and I should expect regular clueless invasion tonight?

Have you noticed it? Maybe your mines are less stepped on, or you are revived more often. Maybe when you go to the objective there is actually two or three people (in a 16 server) who go with you, instead of leaving you alone to do all the work.

Ok, there are still things that are in discussion, as going to the command center in Battery as axis, tk/revive, or building pump before destroying wall in oasis; but I’ve not seen anyone jumping to the beach in a long time, I haven’t seen people killing CO as much, etc…

If the game gets any better as time goes on, I’ll have a problems finding time to sleep/go to work/see girlfriend.

I’d have to agree. I’ve had some good games the last few days on the rtcw.co.uk servers. Good crowd, some good players, not getting complaints filed for TK/revives, which is usually a good indicator of the maturity of the players on a server. So yeah, it’s getting there.

Sorry to disappoint you, but there are still truckloads of clueless ppl around
Last night I din’t know if I should laugh or cry, never seen such a bunch of dumbasses…
When I came in they had no Engineer, I like that class, so no problem for me to fill that gap. Begibnning with the second map, we had 4 Engs, one soldier, no medics or other classes.
OK, I switched to medic, but oh, another one switched to medic, so I thought a coverd ops would be fine - by 2/3 of the round we had 5 covered ops, and no engineer :banghead: , so I switched back to engineer…
Not to mention the folks running clueless around, so after that round I left the server…

On the positive side, I then joined a server where I had the joy of playing one of the best ET games ever (goldrush with a photo-finish ending) - that was a hell of a game!

It does seem to vary quite widely still. I spent almost all Saturday on Fun’s server and there was a good deal of team play, esp considering i didn’t actually know anyone. Very enjoyable 7 hours! [albeit slightly scarey to play ET for that long].

Yesterday i went onto another uk server, on goldrush as allied, and engineers were mining the doorway to the tank, with most of the team making ‘covering fire’.

Needless to say we didn’t even steal the tank, and i quit thinking ‘i must find a clan’.

(Kendle) #5

Read that and thought “what’s wrong with that?”, then noticed you said “Allied”. Nearly fell off me chair laughing, that would have been funny to see.

(DrGav) #6

yes, maybe all the allieds were joined in some temporary axis flashback? they did seem quite well organised in that respect. axis were coming at us from all angles, it was a total role reversal!!

i did attempt to lead the team by saying ‘don’t mine the doorway’, ‘repair the tank’ and ‘go round the back!’ but they largely ignored me and courageously continued defending the health pickup area.

It’s not all good - a friend of mine used to play RTCW so I suggested ET to him and a few days ago he got it and tsarted playing. He’s finding himself being put off by the constant outclassing of his n00bity. If all the n00bs vanish then a lot of potential n00bs will leave and never become good players.

But that’s simply the nature of online games.

I’ve found that games are getting harder & players are improving. I was playing fueldump as a medic, we had a severe ammo shortage as I only had a my knife & a grenade left. There was an smg soldier who was always looking for ammo so asked him to switch to field ops next time he spawned, I also mentioned to him that he would get unlimited ammo if he did & he could call in fire support. Well he switched class & I told him how to use teh fire support & needless to say he turned into a great field ops & the ammo shortage ceased. One other thing I noticed that if i’m doing well in a class that a lot of my team switch to teh class that i’m playing which is kinda annoying as the other classes get neglected & it looks odd with 6 field ops or 6 engineers

Great, I guess I love to watch these guys
Guess I have to visit some UK servers soon
We should make a list with the top 10 stupidities one can make in ET

I’ll start:

  1. “Dynamite planted at the Generator.”

(ETplayer) #11

whats wrong with that ?

([=O=]SMYLER) #12

Yeah I’m in the same boat Dutch man. WTF is wrong with “Dynamite planted at the Generator.” ?

(weasel) #13

It lets the axis team know you’re getting in through the back. It gives them a chance to head you off at the gun controls. If you get a uniform, and there’s nobody guarding the back door, go straight for controls. Plus, if you’re not a L3 engineer, you may not have enough power to plant when you get to controls.

u pressume this is always the situation but its not, when allies have captured the forward bunker i usually dont go for the gun controls first but i go for the generator first, when the generator blows… the hatch doors open, allowing me { waiting at the door } easy acces to the gun controls, also the backdoor will now be open so my team can attack from 2 sides…

:drink:

“Dynamite planted at the Generator” obviously implies an engineer must have done the planting. It also implies the occasionally-magnetically-sealed doors are still closed, obviously because if the Generator is still intact enough for dynamite to be planted near it and a message to appear, the doors must be under the influence of the Generator’s power. This means that the only possible way an engineer could reach the Generator in this situation is either:

  1. Via the locked doors, which can only be opened for the engineer by a disguised Allied covert ops or a foolish Axis not watching his back (not likely).

or…

  1. Via the front doors near the Allied Assault Ramp, and through the entire f*cking Sea Battery complex. This route directly bypasses the ladder-entrance to the Gun Controls.

The only possible reason an engineer using method 2 would blow the Generator is because he is lost and cannot find the primary target. In method 1’s case; if the Allies wanted to destroy any element of surprise they may have had, why didn’t the covert ops who accompanied the engineer blow the generator instead of wasting the engineer’s time and power?

The point is, if an Axis team allows an engineer the time and freedom to plant at the Generator, as a whole they are probably too stupid or too preoccupied to defend the Gun Controls. Thus, planting at the Generator is a futile action that delays the victory of the Allies.

(Sick Boy) #16

It’s all true what you say, FakeId, but unfortunately it’s not the #1 stupidity in Et, I encounter stupider stuff on a daily basis.
Example: today: I get a radar part up to five meters off the truck, where 5-6 teammates are camping, I get tk’ed, after 10 seconds one accidentally picks up the radar part, does nothing with it for a while, gets killed, another one stumbles over it, goes up to one meter to the truck, stands there shooting, gets killed and axis return the objective. I saw it all laying dead, and /quit.

(LKS_FreeMan) #17

I’ve seen that happen also, quite sad. I’ve seen a medic with the radar part stand at the main gate for almost a minute shooting and dodging. Not once did he attempt to take the part to the truck nor did he respond to my pleas for a medic as I lay on the ground near him.

(damocles) #18

Yeah, it can be quite amazing just how many people don’t know that the green ! icon means they have the objective. I think a lot of the problem is that this game almost is an extension of Wolf, so 9 out of 10 players know the wolf system. The other poor souls have no idea what to do and why.

(Riftgarde) #19

Ever plant at the back of the gun room on oasis as axis and watch some teammates run around in horror over the red blinking at the gun?

([=O=]SMYLER) #20

It’s just the luck of the draw, sometimes you’ll get a lovely server full of vets or even noobs that are willing to learn and DO with a little bit of encouragement. But then there is always the chance that a COMPLETE NOOB CUNT WITH ATTITUDE joins up, his daddy has bought him a fuckin’ pre release 5GHZ cpu, Nvidia FX deathbeast video card with 50GB of -200ns RAM who will file at EVERY accidental TK which was ALWAYS his idiotic fault anyway and completely spoil the game for the rest with his constant whining and childish ranting. He will also have joined this server because he KNOWS FOR A FACT that he can’t get voted off 'cos the option isn’t there, all other servers kick the PRICK as soon as he arrives as they well remember the CUNT.

 I feel better now.
