Hi!
Is Enemy Territory the best team based first person shooter to date?
I believe so.
RtCW is nice, but I like all the new stuff in ET (classes, weapons etc).
C. s. is… old, and … not for me.
I never really played Quake and UT, more than very casually. They have nice effects (splatter and rockets) but I prefer ET.

Is ET the best team based fps to date?
I don’t think it can match it’s predecessor, although I do play ET more than RtCW these days. With some good custom maps, continued mod support and better players it still has a chance to become as good as RtCW though. Too bad we’ll never get WolfTV for ET.
Well, you’re hardly likely to get an un-biased few from these forums, besides which how do you define “best”? For instance, if you define “best” as “most popular” then of course it isn’t. CS is way more popular than every other FPS put together!
I think you also have to consider the game both in the context of how it plays on public servers, and how it plays as a Clan game.
On publics you can’t beat it. The large and complex maps, the multiple Classes, the new (compared to RTCW) weapons, and the slower (compared to RTCW) rate of fire (which gives the game a whole new dynamic for me) make it a fantastic game for general public play and a bit of light relief.
But to truly appreciate what playing a “team” game is all about, you have to play it in a competitive environment (i.e. for a Clan). In that respect I’d say RTCW still currently knocks spots off it because RTCW is faster, slicker, more intense and much more suited to structured competition.
Is RTCW really faster or is this just a perception thing because of the smaller maps? To me it seems like movement in RTCW is just as fast/slow as in ET, though I haven’t played much RTCW.
One of the best things with RtCW is Wolf-TV. To be able to join a server and watch a clan match between two top clans live. But there not going to be wolf tv for ET you say? That’s not good! // Loffy
I mean the game as a whole is faster, because the maps are smaller, rounds are shorter, and the weapons rate-of-fire is faster so gunfights are over quicker, etc.
It makes for an intense, action-packed experience which ET can’t really compete with. But by the same token it makes public games too much of a spawn / die cycle for some, whereas ET is a more immersive experience, which is great for publics.
Sure, but you’d just have to make a few fast paced maps.
For example there is Base for ET already… So the difference becomes really slim.
I feel that RtCW is slower… going back to playing it a few times and I don’t feel I can run as fast, etc. And yes I use the strafe run jump. I think that the firefights in ET are by far better than in RtCW but of course that’s just my perception of the game. Switchin to akimbos as soon as I’m almost out of MP40 ammo and ending the firefight is one of the most satisfying things I’ve done in games in some time.
I think there’s far more teammwork needed to complete objectives in ET than in RtCW. Again, that’s just my experience with the two, and perception.
I can’t really say that ET is better than RtCW, but there’s not one other game that comes close to these two.
