Is Dirty Bomb the real game name?

(EnderWiggin.DA.) #1

Honest question. Is Dirty Bomb the real name of the game or is it a working title/code name like my projects at work? Dirty Bomb is a bold marketing choice in an industry where failures are called “bombs”. Splash Damage is usually very good at marketing their games so I was just wondering if it was a code name.

It doesn’t really have the same ring as ‘Enemy Territory’ or ‘Call of Duty’ or ‘Unreal Tournament’.

‘Pathogen’ on the other hand, would still cover the meaning and really feels much better saying.

EDIT: Oh wait no, pathogen has nothing to do with radioactive material.

Good question, that’s what I also asked myself.

I just presumed it wasn’t the name.

I really like ‘Dirty Bomb’. In a market saturated with silly generic modern FPS pseudo-rail-shooters, this is unique and quirky and memorable. I’ll actually be kinda disappointed if Dirty Bomb isn’t the real name. :frowning:

I like Dirty Bomb name, but it made me believe game art was something like Team Fortress 2 until i saw the map screenshots on the server list.

Also the plain game logo (radiation simbol) reminds you about Rad Soldiers… what put more cartoonish images on your memory… until you see the game, for sure.

But for merchandizing in sites that just have the game logo and a few stuff, people can have wrong clue about the game.

Regardless if a Dirty Bomb is the center point of the story, The title makes me think that the entire game revolves around defusing bombs under a time limit - like it’s some platformer or casual browser game.

It just occured to me. Say the DB were a success. New IP, popular among ET players, also casuals, nice F2P model etc.
If SD is gonna make at some point later the sequels, then they would have to be called Dirty Bomb 2, Dirty Bomb 3, etc.
Meaning that all of the next games stories will have to do smth with dirty nuclear bombs. Isn’t this a too story-restrictive naming concept?
I like Dirty Bomb name as such though. It fits to the name “Splash Damage” and is also a pretty mean and smashing word combo.

I too at first thought this was a bit of an odd title for a game, but it’s growing on me, I think I can live with it

Dirty Bomb dont need to be read literally. If you consider it as slang language, it can mean uncontable things. So i believe its not that restrictive.

About read it as literally or as slang, people will discovery while discovering the game. Before that it cause a mistery that can make people pull their wallet off pocket.

+1

Dirtybomb, it first felt like a un-traditional name for a shooter, but it might just work for that reason.

I bet they started planning pre-London olympics, and brainstormed alternative, future threats to the city.

I like it dirty :o

thinking at it this morning and .If i didnt know about DB and hearing this game name for the first time .I would think it’s probly a game that you have to defuse bombs in all maps or something. And sequels would have to do the same .
So i thought what would fit for a Sequel name in a different city?
Dirty Bombs:London
Dirty Bombs: New York
Dirty Bombs :Paris
ect…
it all abouts bombs .
What if the game is different Bad events in a specific city .DB doesnt describe the game as such.
Than what name ??
something that describe Bad events …usualy on TV when there is a bad event its in the ‘Breaking News …’
Breaking News:London
Breaking News :New York
Breaking News :Paris
would be more fit…If a code name could be find that would fit for defenitions of Bad events in progress in a city would please me more …But I can live with Dirty Bombs

(tokamak) #14

Adding a city name to the title definitely makes it more exciting.

(BioSnark) #15

Surely this name is far better than the “Series+Wars” trend of a couple years ago cough

(Donnovan) #16

Dirty BombS for a game name should be restrictive.

But it is Dirty Bomb, one big dirty thing.

For slang language, we can use BombS and not loose the unrestrictive feeling of it.

Some slang with Dirty Bomb.

“This guy is a Dirty Bomb!”

“Maaaan! What a Dirty Bomb you got here!”

“Better to run pal, it will all finish in a big Dirty Bomb.”

“Ouch man, this woman is a Dirty Bomb in bed!”

“He does not knows the Dirty Bomb that awaits hin…”

“Buy here! Buy here! The best Dirty Bombs in the city! We have chocolate and peanut flavors! For just 0.60 $ each.”

salteh!!!

and donnovan youre hilarious

i really like the name, its different.

(EnderWiggin.DA.) #18

Bombs are also a slang for poop in the US. “Dropping bombs in the bathroom.” I was avoiding saying this in my original post but then Donnovan went for other stuff so I’m adding it.

(tokamak) #19

Didn’t stop Tom Jones from scoring a big hit with it.
