Invalid GUID error

(ExternalBleeding) #1

I just bought myself a new computer today that should be able to run ET. However, for one reason or another, W:ET does not work. I receive a message stating I have an invalid GUID and it may be a temporary problem. It appears it is not just a temporary problem. I’ve tried various commands in the console, because it appears I do not have an etkey file in my ETMAIN folder.

I am currently using a computer with Windows 7. It is BRAND NEW. Wolfenstein was the first thing I downloaded on to it. Please, help me out… I miss this game…

http://etkey.org/

(ExternalBleeding) #3

I still get the error.

What exactly have you done?

A simple way:

1)Generate and download an etkey (on etkey.org: click the “Get an ETKEY” button)
2)Place the downloaded ETKEY file in your User->AppData->Local->Punkbuster->ET->etmain folder.
This folder is, by default, hidden, if the folder doesn`t exist, create it.

Or, the easier way:
Download the full installer: http://wolffiles.de/filebase/ET/Full%20Version/WolfET_2_60b_custom.zip
This one installs ET, the neccessary punkbusterfiles, downloads an etkey and also installs a minimizer

I tried both of the simple ways… I’m downloading the full installer as we speak. The installer I used was from some Wolfenstein file search. I think it was called Planet Wolfenstein.

now I`m confused

Have you tried this ( http://wolffiles.de/filebase/ET/Full%20Version/WolfET_2_60b_custom.zip ) full installer or the one from planet wolfenstein?

If you used the one from PW, then you should install the proper version of PB. You can try this, which also dl an etkey when noone is available ( http://wolffiles.de/filebase/ET/Tools/ETPunkBuster_Setup_And_KeyGen.zip )

Have you started ET as an administrator?

(ExternalBleeding) #7

Now when I download the file itself, I get an error just trying to open it

(UJERebel) #8

Which error?
Also on redownload? :s

try on www.ujeclan.com then downloads, then the ET logo.

(ExternalBleeding) #9

I’ve tried everything stated in this thread so far :/… Minus the full installer. For some reason it wouldn’t open or extract…

EDIT: Going to try your download, Rebel.

(ExternalBleeding) #10

Tried the download Rebel gave me. I still receive this error.

Firewall OK, if in Program Files started as admin? Maybe useless questions but sometimes it’s simpler than thought ^^’

(ExternalBleeding) #12

Firewall’s off when I try and play it… And I always start it as admin. This might be a silly question, but is there a way to turn run as admin always on? Like on Vista.

(UJERebel) #13

Win7? Right click, compatibility, always run as admin. (just typed this, names may differ a bit)

And when you reinstalled, did you first delete your et folder?

(Patriotqube) #14

on win7 the etkey aint placed in etmain

place it here

c:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\PunkBuster\ET\etmain

and play as admin and you should be ok

umm… sorry, but isn’t that etmain? You should really read this post over…

Turning on run as admin worked. Odd, because I would always run it as admin… Thanks guys.
