Intel R82845G onboard video

One of the lads in my clan has one of these and he can’t play ET. I’ve talked him through installing DX9.0a got him to update his drivers to the latest (1.31 from the intel site) and still no joy. He has allocated 64MB to his card from memory (think thats the limit).

I know that video chip is a load of garbage but should he be able to play (even with lower settings, regular wolfy works fine) without having to buy a new video card ?

Can you elaborate on the issue(s) he is having running the game? Like; error messages he may be receiving or a detailed explanation of what he is experiencing, etc.

He gets as far as the first menu and everthing freezes needing a hard reboot. He’s running Win XP home and remember regular wolfy works fine.

Are you sure that he has installed the correct drivers? I just took a look, and according to Intel, the newest revision of video drivers for the 845GV chipset is 1.0.5 (May 2003). You better have him double check that he has installed all the correct updates for his chipset.

Take a look at this link and see what I mean:

EDIT: I just took a look at the drivers for Windows NT and they are at 13.1 (suspiciously close to this 1.31 you mention above). Is it possible he has mistakenly forced an install for this set of drivers?

That’s possible and thanks VERY much for your help here man, 'cos I feel very guilty every time I’m on ventrilo and the poor guy can’t join in with the rest of us on ET.

The drivers I pointed him to and got him to install are these ones :

I will tell him to give yours a go (I’ve had him make a restore point). I’d love to be able to let the poor bugger have a go on ET before he has to head off to fight the fires in Arizona. Hell if I lived in the states I’d travel to Cali and do it for him but unfortunately I’m in the UK :???: .

I hope it doesn’t come down to drivers for his mobo as he isn’t the most hard/software literate guy and I SEVERELY doubt he will know which one he has and doing it on ventrilo (which relies on a working pc) is VERY difficult. Worst comes to the worst, he’s gonna get a new video card (nothing spectacular I don’t think). But you do agree a P4 and that garbage video chip should at least do low settings run of ET.

Thanks again man, it’s appreciated.
