Intel(R) Pentium(R) M Processor 2.13 GHz

Can I run QW with this? If this has been discussed I’m sorry in advance.

(Nail) #2

possible, not likely though, doubt that lappy’s graphics would be up to the task

(engineerguy) #3

Well I guess I’ve been priced out of Quake Wars. Have fun kiddos.

It runs fine on my 1.66GHz laptop, so yes it probably will be.

(Sauron|EFG) #5

It’ll only cost you 727.53 MB to find out for sure.

(engineerguy) #6

Hey I’m still tryin. Turned down graphics. Update drivers. Workin on it.
That extra 700 is $500.

(DarkangelUK) #7

Why not install it and see? If it doesn’t run, just uninstall… simple. I think there’s a few tweaked configs on the community forums you could try.

The processor should be fine. But since you didn’t list video card or RAM, it’s anyone’s guess.

Fair enough. ATI Radeon Mobile X300 and 512 ram. I can run the game. Takes me a few minutes to get FPS decent. Takes a very long time to load and shut down.

I got my ATI driver update today. I’ll look for cfgs and tips I’m just getting started literally.

(BondyBoy007) #10

whaaaa? it costs you $1.40 everytime you download a MB of data?

(engineerguy) #11

Not sure what you mean BondoBoy. But I’m playing now with a test cfg.
It’s a great game. I like the futuristic theme.

he meant RAM, he misunderstood the previous statement

CPU speed is a fairly moot point in gaming. The stress is placed on the graphics card. That said, 2.13GHz Pentium M (even single core) is a pretty good CPU for a laptop, running at an equivalent speed of a 3GHz Pentium 4, give or take.

As for slow loading times, it might be that you have a slow hard-drive. It’s not uncommon to see 4200rpm HDs in laptops. Or it may be your low 512mb Ram that causes your page-file to be constantly accessed, which places further demands on your HD. (Which is why your FPS may appear to take a while to stabilise).

ATI x300 is very much a bottom-end (albeit modern [PCI-express]) graphics card, though.

I can run Wolf:ET fine on my 128mb ATI x300, but I’m guessing ET:QW is significantly more stressful in terms of graphics. I haven’t tried the game yet.

512mb system RAM is really on the threshold if you’re running Windows XP. It really is the bare minimum, and is easily stressed or shown up as a weakness. These days I’d recommend at least 1GB as standard on XP. XP is a system hog, as are modern apps/games.

This isn’t really true. ETQW is quite CPU hungry, as are many other modern games.

A 2.8 ghz P4 is the minimum spec, and you won’t really get enjoyable framerates with anything close to that.

I’m beginning to wonder about the min specs on QW, just for giggles I installed it on my little office comp, AMD 64 3500+ w/ onboard nVidia 6100 and it actually runs quite well with 4 or 5 bots a side, at least as well as the CoD 4 demo and with better graphics
