Instant death (bug ?)

(senator) #1

Aargh, I’m really frustrated now, the instant death thing is really annoying (beeing killed in a normal firefight (not gibbed) and instantly thrown into respawn), is there an official statement from the developers ?

Is this considered a bug or intended ?

If it is a bug, will it be fixed ?

It never happens to me iam always able to get revived unless gibbed by enemy, also I think if alot suffered from it there would be countless posts about it on this forum, does it happen on every server you play on?

it happens to me occasionally aswell, lying there waiting for medic and suddenly pop and im into limbo… even when in little rooms or whatever with no enemy anywhere near. doesnt happen very often though.

If you are in a tank, it automattically brings you to limbo.

But it seems it takes less bullets to gib a person in ET, so it is possible to gib a person when falling down after deaht

It happens to me all the time, and as I also play medic mostly I see it happen to others as well. It seems like their guns are hitting the ground before they do.

Yeah, I wasn’t completely sure before, but today I had a case where there was very clearly no one around.

well, for me it’s pretty frequently, in 50% I go directly to limbo with no chance to wait for a medic. happened to me on different server. And a buddy who was playing together with me on exactly the same servers had non of these problems so it’s not server dependent.

The one thing I hate about PF spamming is that it turns a game into spawn, running forward, probably killing an enemy, splash, respawn. That’s boring, I want to work as a team, with medics nearby to revive me once I’m fallen in a firefight and continue the advance. But this bug (??) is turning the game pretty much in the same direction, spawn, getting killed, instant death and I have to respawn :frowning:

I think its real frustrating to us medics, I don’t mind sacrificing myself for a revive here and there. Im pretty quick in getting there to only find some ammo I can’t use due to being painted on the walls.

If you get shot, Killed But the guys continue to shoot and hit your dead body when falling, you will go in limbo, that is why I usually go around and shoot fallen ennemy bodies, to give the opposite team, less EXP for nme medic, And longer time before they can go back in the fight.

I’am no newbie, I’ve been playing RtCW since the beach-demo came out and ET since the FuelDump demo, I know this game and I know that half dead players can be killed completely! This is especially important on limited lives server on which I play frequently.

So I know that this is different! In RtCW and the ET demo once a player lay on the ground it took again 10-15 bullets to finish him off completely but in ET its now very different, you are dead even before your body hits the ground. Something like this never happened in RtCW or ET demo !

And it’s really annoying!

WE KNOW THIS. I’ve been playing RTCW since test1, mostly as a medic. I know when I should be in limbo and when I should not. Sometimes ET just puts you in limbo for no good reason. It is a BUG. There was a very similar bug in at least one of the RTCW patches. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

OK, in the absence of official word from above and to put my own tuppence into this discussion ISTM that there are two possible explanations:

  1. “Immediate involuntary limbo”: when I’m panicking under heavy fire I have a tendency to jump about, I’m starting to wonder whether this is something to do with ET responding inappropriately to a space bar (jump) keypress which occurs immediately before death… ?

  2. “Delayed involuntary limbo”: since I can’t free look, if I drop to limbo without hitting the space bar I’ve assumed that I’ve been gibbed by a grenade that I can’t see coming… ? (which would mean that the “bug” is just a case of the game engine not allowing the avatar to experience the gib).

neither, at least not in some cases. i’ve been in 1v1, taken by surprise, even being TK-revived etc and definately not hit jump anytime recently, yet autotapped out, when there was definately no explosions or chance of explosions anywhere.

there is a code bug somewhere - maybe a +moveup where it shouldnt be, or whatever, but it does need fixing.
