Installing Punkbuster on Mac

I switched from a PC to a Macbook air with Mountain Lion installed and would like to get back into ET.

I downloaded Enemy Territory and it works but I don’t have punk buster. I have tried to install it but when I go into the game and try to join a server it says that I need to allow punk buster then it gives me the option to click allow. I do and try to reload the server and it gives me the same problem again.

I don’t see punkbuster on my main screen and even when I go into the select server screen and click enable it doesn’t show that it is on.

Also I am not very tech smart but I am willing to do whatever it takes to get this working.

PB dropped ET support quite some time ago already so it’s rather pointless to have punkbuster on any servers anyway. Most don’t. Just find one with no punkbuster.

Yes, EB dropped the ETsupport. But PB enabled is exactly the same as before.
During the last years with PB support AFAIR only fixes went into the updates.

Well, you can put it that way but the only real thing it’s doing there is causing lag. It’s useless vs cheaters and has pretty much no other use than detecting them, which it does not do properly (if at all?). Pb guid server is gone and mods have started using other ways to identify players anyway.

Conclusion: find a server without punkbuster as using it is useless.

Hey now, lets not be too harsh on pb, it detects and kicks lots of non cheaters so surely that makes up for its other failings :tongue:

At least it blocks old hacks. And some cheaters avoid the ones with it enabled :rolleyes:

I also forgot about PBBans and PunkBusted. Cool databases IMHO…

I think Pb is better then nothing and also detect some cheats, if you look at PBBans you will see many ppls have been detected as cheaters recently,

I would say to you to use PB and if someday an another AC like Tzac accept others mods and be auto loaded when you start the game i will recommend you to change to it, until this day stick with PB.

Are you sure? As I can see last entry for ET was made on 3 October 2011 (when EB disabled auth server for ET).

Conclusion? PB aka MD5 Scanner is useful only if you want to prevent newbs from joining your server :slight_smile:

Youre totaly wrong, MBL (master ban list) is ended with the end of support of EB for ET, but in PBBans they added Unofficial Banlist after this drop.

If you want you can add your server to use this (unofficial master ban list) and your server will kick the caught players who have an entry in this banlist.

And, im sure about what i said!!
